A professional Arsenal win but Sutton were surprisingly fit

We all expected Arsenal to beat the non-League side Sutton United last night, but it was hardly a walkover as the hosts gave as good as they got and made Arsenal fight for every ball. Even Arsene Wenger was impressed and said his team had to be at their best to win a quarter-final place against another non-League side, Lincoln.

Le Prof was asked if he was just happy with getting the job done. “Yes,” he said. “against a side that was astonishing. It is basically division five and they are 17th out of 24. I will never go down there [to manage] because it is too difficult!”

And was he surprised how well Sutton played? “Yes, by the speed of their game, the fact they never stopped going until the end and compared to 20 years ago these teams are fit now and can play at the pace of the Premier League. Maybe [in the past] they collapsed in the last 20 minutes, that [era] is finished.

“They kept going and we were never really in a position where we could really afford to have a little breather in the game. We had to keep our focus, and I must give credit to my players who were professional and kept their focus, if we had come here in a relaxed mood we would have gone out tonight because Sutton produced quality.”

So it was a good training exercise for a few of our peripheral players, although it was still a very strong side considering our opponents. Now we have a 12 day rest before the serious stuff starts again with our crucial trip to Anfield to come. This game could have a big effect in the race for the Top Four as they are just one point behind us in 5th. Let’s hope the Gunners can find their form again before that game….

  1. Lately, we have made all our opponents look like quality teams and that’s mainly down to our own poor display, but for Wenger to suggest that Sutton can play at the same pace as the premier league is beyond delusional ?

  2. “Arsenal to give Sutton £50,000 to buy two classrooms, reveals boss”

What do they need classrooms for??

    1. I’m guessing, for making Pies ? ?

I’m still getting visions of their Super – extra – large Fat slob, munching on a nasty looking pie ?
I read that Sutton wasn’t happy with their mans stunt!
They must have got some serious complaints from TV viewers ?

        1. Chunky!!! was the one who was eating it! ?
Tbh, I couldn’t workout what he was eating. It looked like a giant rat in a French stick, watching him, made me feel sick lol ?

  3. Wenger keeps making me laugh, well am not surprised.. Wenger needs to leave, he doesn’t know what he’s saying or doing anymore.. We made Sutton look like Stoke City, the days of Fabregas, Hleb e.t.c we played free flowing football but now we play like Sunderland a times.. God Help us

  4. My fantasy Arsenal team 🙂
    You like it?

    _________Cavani
    Welbeck Sanchez Walcott
    ______Cazorla Rabiot
    Monreal Koscielny Mustafi Bellerin
    ______Donnarumma

      1. Yup. This team will win the premier league easily. Did you want to see Ronaldo, Messi and Thiago? That’s not fantasy, that’s delusion. ha ha

  5. its crazy but I just find myself watching all arsenal matches while expecting the worst that’s not to say m no die hard fan, but its better I expect the worst to happen so I don’t look dismayed at the end..like yesterday I had a feeling a few players wud get injured and we go down the first half by 2 goals and then someone notches the consolation 1 goal and we get out of the fa cup…then wenger explains the reason we lost was cos we were tired from the trip from munich and that the pitch and environment of the Sutton home isn’t good enough or up to standard and he may even go beyond and blame the fans for not turning up for the team..but ive seen the fans at Madrid boo the players and coach but that ddnt stop them from lifting the ucl and scoring lots of goals, I really don’t know what wenger wants from the fans at arsenal, we have endured 14 years of no epl and a whole lifetime of no ucl and yet he blames us..the same people who pay the highest fee to watch average players like giroud ramsey Gabriel walcot and so many garbages…can the fans please do something..wenger and the board have become autocrats and monarchs of this club, they take no opinions and care less for the affections of the fans, even the almighty Madrid and barca are popularly controlled by the fans through voting systems that allow them make the choice of managers and club presidents alike…perez wudnt have become the president of Madrid if not for the promise of galaticos…I repeat we the fans and the club as an entity have been even before wenger and the board, why cant the supporters club in England rally up and do something,,,are we gonna remain silent while we get destroyed slowly, are we gonna remain like this until Chelsea surpasses us in epl trophies and mancity wins the ucl..we are no longer a world class club, we are joking matters for players like neuer who calls a match against us an holiday…jheez…so playing arsenal is like a holiday trip…I wudnt gve up but wud jst watch on and c what is gonna happen until a brave someone wud kill that sadistic man in his bed…its no more come on you gonners COYG…..its now GOD HELP ARSENAL…GHAL>>

  6. I thought we played sensibly and within ourselves on the night and got the expected result.

I also thought we conducted ourselves well, and gave full respect to our opposition.

All in all, aside from Piegate it was a good night all round.
