American wonderkid waiting for Arsenal decision on contract

Luis Gil
The American wonderkid Luis Gil is only 15 but has attracted interest from all over the world, including from Arsenal, but the talented midfielder is keeping his options open and keeping his feet on the ground.

Gil is currently with the USA U17 side in Nigeria where they are competing in the FIFA U17 World Cup, where they face Italy on Wednesday after qualifying from the Group Stages.

His sixteenth birthday falls on the same day as the Final of the competition, so it would be a great birthday present if the USA could win it, and he is hoping to become a professional in the near future.

He came over to Arsenal in May to be given the once over by Liam Brady, but he denies that he has been offered a contract by the Gunners yet.

“There are a couple of words going out there saying that I had signed with Arsenal but in reality I just went there for about a week and a half on trial,” Gil said.

“It was a good experience, the staff was good, the environment was beautiful. But as of now I’ve just done a trial, so far.”

“It’d be a great opportunity but if the chance doesn’t come I’ve got to take what’s given to me,”

“I’ve been talking to a couple of people about the MLS, so hopefully that would be a great place to start my career.”

It is not just in America that the rumours are circulating that he is going to be offered a contract by Arsene Wenger. The respected Young Gunners website also reported that a deal was imminent, but it is possible that Arsenal are waiting until he comes of age before making an official approach.
