Are Arsenal actively looking to replace Monreal?

Arsenal are now being linked with the young defender from Schalke, Sead Kolasinac. The Bosnian left-back, who can also play in the centre, is one of the success stories of the last couple of Bundesliga seasons and is a no brainer to be linked with other clubs.

For Arsenal, there is an interesting byline to this story. The Spanish defender Nacho Monreal is continuously linked with a move back to Spain. Though there is no confirmation of Monreal moving out, it is being told that if he moves out then Kolasinac will be the replacement.

Target or not, Kolasinac is at the prime of his career and the 22-year-old defender impressed with his displays through the season. He joined the Schalke’s academy in 2011 from Stuttgart. Since then, he has risen through the ranks to become a very key member of the squad.

Arsenal are supposed to be following him up with lot of interest. However, they are not the only clubs interested. Kolasinac indicated in the last transfer window that Manchester United are interested in his services. Of course, nothing moved to the level of a proposal and Kolasina stayed back at the club.

Kolasinac suffered a knee ligament injury on the opening day of the last season. He missed majority of the campaign before returning to action in April this year. This may hamper his chances of moving to bigger clubs. Interested clubs are still weighing the merits and demerits of going for the Bosnian.

There is reported interest from the Italian clubs also with a view of submitting a bid. Kolasinac has earned five international caps for Bosnia. He still has two years left on his contract Schalke.

Could this be true? If the reports of Monreal leaving the club are anyway close to truth, Wenger would like to go for an experienced player as cover for his first choice defenders. The fee mooted is around £10 million. The young defender is also wanted by Juventus, Roma, Fiorentina and Inter Milan.

Wenger must decide quickly if he is looking to sell off Monreal. Kolasinac will be an ideal replacement because of many factors, not least his age. The young Bosnian offers versatility because he is adept at playing many roles. We may not have heard the last on this matter.

  1. we 2 very injury prone LBs…its good that we bring in another to provide competition and cover….

  2. I would like to have Monreal for one more year at Arsenal, this season we must get ST and DM … next season we can look for LB …
What is this rumour of Giroud signing 3yrs contract extension with 130k/w? I hope it is wrong, believe me no top team is gonna buy him and with such high wage it will be a problem for small clubs to get him …
You know what is the best scenario for me, offload Giroud and get the money to buy top striker … Thanks to Giroud but it is time to be ruthless …

    1. Same mistakes, same bs. Just like With Squelaci, Almunia, Denilson, Betnder. They all did run their contracts out bec no other team was willing to give the money they earned at Arsenal. Gervinhio was an expectation. The lad lowered his demands to play football. Something Giroud will never do in the future, as hookers can be quit expensive.

  3. I reckon that this is not the good time to sell Nacho. Our back four was very table with him at left back towards the end of last season. He has struck an immense balance between defense and attack. He delivers decent crosses too. One more season please, Nacho then you can go back home if you want

  4. Monreal should stay one more season. But meanwhile, Sign a Striker Wenger, that’s what we need. A Super W-class Striker. What’s hard in this Arsene? OK, now we fans we PLEAD, Beg, Urge you pls buy us a goal poacher. Thank U Wenger, Thank U!!!!
    Ur faithfully
    -Concerned fan!!!!!

  5. Noooooooooonsense! why let Monreal go? even if he wants to, just be hard on him and accept no bit. meanwhile, offer a new contract with better wage 🙂

  6. Be really frustrating if wenger does not make 2-3 signings cos thats all we need to be real tittle contenders a top forward and dm are a must and if true draxler could join juventus on loan i would love wenger to hijack the move and bring him to arsenal for season loan the lad is top quality can play on both flanks and even through the middle def worth taking him on loan got nothing to loose if he plays to his potential he will be a great signing.

  7. We will need a new LB
    in a couple of seasons
    so Kalashnikov seems to be
    a sought after target.
But why don’t we use one
    of our own academy products?

    1. which academy product on left back? Brandon Ormonde-Ottewill left. No real LBs in the pipeline..

  8. There are 2 players current much better then Monreal who is already pretty good. I cant complaon he knows how to get his work done.

seamus coleman and Ricardo Rodríguez. Both of them are superbs both of them are worth the money. But noo, we at Arsenal love to P*iss around the bush and make experiments. Get nobodys in and give them 130k after some years.

    1. Yeah, genius. Of your two suggestions, one isn’t a left back and the other is no better than we have. Forgive me if I don’t take your drivel too seriously.

    2. @KS-Gunner
LOL….you seriously don’t know what position coleman plays……no need to say anything more on the rest of your comments….you revealed plenty already on your own.

  9. By the way. Budd. Du bist ein Idiot wenn du denkst das ich Google Translate benutze. Ob du aus Holland kommst oder im Wiesbaden geboren bist. Du bist und wirst immer ein trottel bleiben. Peace.
