Are Arsenal fans happy to let Ramsey join Chelsea?

All the signs point to Aaron Ramsey delaying his Arsenal contract talks for the next ten days so that the Welshman can grab a big pay day next summer when he can leave on a free transfer, but are the Gunners willing to let him create another Alexis Sanchez-type situation which put such a damper on the last campaign?

According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea are looking to take advantage of the stand-off by making a last-minute bid for Ramsey. They reported it like this…..

Chelsea are ready to make a transfer deadline move for Aaron Ramsey.

The Arsenal midfielder is in the final year of his contract at the Emirates, and as yet there has been no agreement about a new deal.

Manager Unai Emery is still confident that the 27-year-old will stay but the club want the situation sorted before the start of the season when the transfer window closes.

If it is not, Ramsey would go into the new campaign with the prospect of a free transfer next summer.

Chelsea are watching the progress of the negotiations and if it appears there will be deadlock, they are preparing to move in.

The asking price will be about £30million for Ramsey, who has won 53 caps for Wales and was part of the squad that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016.

So if Ramsey refuses to sign, would Arsenal fans be happy to let him move to one of our biggest rivals for just £30million rather than see him leave for free next summer?

    1. Yeah-I mean let’s just get rid of Ozil because we have Alex Iwobi so we don’t need the useless over rated German anymore.I think that’s what you are saying is it not.
I can tell you pal that if Mesut Ozil left Arsenal now we would NOT make Top4 with the squad we have. Why get rid of one of the worlds best playmakers? We have a Manager now who seems able to get the best from every player and to set a team pattern designed to play to their strengths.Wenger never did this. You will be made to look even more foolish with those comments just wait and see

  1. If Ramsey doesn’t sign the extension by this Friday he should be made available for transfer and sold. If Chelsea is the highest bidder, so be it; this is not Frank Lampard we are talking about.
Hopefully Sven Mislattat has a potential replacement lined up.

    1. transfer window closing in about 10 days…Ramsay can only be sold to foreign clubs after

      1. You mean we don’t have to pay Chelsea anything to take him off our hands!? Fantastic! And with the players we ALREADY HAVE we don’t need to buy a replacement. Our young guns can join in the fight over the position, creating healthy competition.

        1. Has Willian gone to Man U/swap for Martial? If not maybe a swap deal of our own could be arranged: Willian for Ramsey, Welbeck, Iwobi…

  2. The Daily Mail says it. A prime example of Ivan Gasdis quote. ‘Those who know don’t say and those who don’t know say’. In my opinion if you believe the Daily Mail you are capable of believing anything.

    1. The thing is the Daily Mail wasn’t the one that first posted it – the daily mail regurgitates news. I wouldn’t care if Ramsey left tbh – For all his goalscoring prowess he lacks the many skills a World Class midfielder should have. He can’t pass, he is defensively poor, his tactical awareness is poor and his dribbling is average at best.

      1. The Daily Mail didn’t say it first. So what. The fact that the Daily Mail says it means its bunkum, in my opinion

      2. Spot on, he’s tactically poor, poor with position, passes, awareness, defending etc. To be honest he’s so average, not a top class midfielder, so overrated like Wilshire was. We can do better to let go of him and get a better player.

        1. Tbh Maitland Niles might not match Ramsey in terms of scoring goals but in almost every other department he has him beat. Strength, pace, passing, defending. It is such a pleasure to see Maitland Niles skin a whole team alive. Believe me Maitland Niles is really coming into his own and with emery, he will be a beast this season.

    2. I actually read the Daily Mail yesterday and they got two things right; the date and the papers name. Well two out of a thousand is a start, I suppose!

  3. Ramsay, Welbeck and etc should be sold…

happy for Emery to build his own team instead of relying on wenger’s era players…apart from those signed last season such as auba, laca and etc…

  4. I say: Sell him quick . bring back CESC Fabregas and make him captain ?

    1. Arsenal gets a natural leader we’ve been crying out For? win-win for us. knowing Chelsea, they would be dumb enough to add some money .

      1. Cesc in to replace Ramsey every day of the week. This should have happened when the Player first came back from Barca but Wenger knew different didn’t he.We have already offloaded one donkey to the Chavs in Giroud so to mug them off for Ramsey would be even better. And Ramsey probably still believes Real Madrid or Barca will come in for him.Trust me they set their standards far far higher than Ramsey

        1. I’m going to be super – excited even more than the Torreira transfer. CESC is my dream signing now ?

            1. Yea another 30 year old player who wanted out of our club when Barca came calling ,yea can’t wait for him to sign

                1. And see how we’ve suffered badly for that poor Wenger decision. Fabregas at the time he went to Chelsea was better than Ramsey & Wishire put together. He’s probably still better than Ramsey & Xhaka…. Class is permanent! I will never forget watching Cesc as a 16 year old outplaying our own legendary former captain.
Cesc is class and he would add so much to our team… especially now with the “legs” of Torriera and Matty G. (you know who i mean). Cant wait for the season to start really. Especially if we can ship out Ramsey, Welbeck and Ramsey and get a propper winger!.

          1. Nzonzi at 29? No… He’s old. Cesc at 30? Yea… Dream signing. I see. I will rather sell Ramsey and buy Nzonzi. Cesc is a playmaker, he’s defensive prowess is not much better than Ramsey’s (that’s not to say he’s of Ramsey’s caliber. He’s better than Ramsey by over a sea’s depth.) What we need is a box 2 box guy. We already have Ozil and Mhiki for play making. Nzonzi is solid defensively, good in the air (we don’t really have a tall player in the midfield), with a decent pass and occasionally goes up field to grab a goal_ although not as much as Ramsey does. He has premier league experience and has played under UE in the past. Bedding in won’t be a problem.

    2. One of the greatest mistakes of Wenger is not to bring back Fabregas just that his golden boy can play in starting 11.

  5. also, CESC FABREGAS fills the homegrown quota. we bring the Legend back . please Ivan , please Mslintat, please Sanhelli.
before the Ramsey fan boys starts bashing me….

would you rather our young guns ( Guendouzi, AMN, SMITH-ROWENALDO, etc) be tutored by Ramsey or CESC? I’m sure they wouldn’t even listen to whatever Ramsey got to say because most of them are already better than Ramsey.

also, CESC is 31. he won’t block the path of any of our young stars and he can retire with us .
    CESC DESERVES IT
    ARSENAL DESERVES IT
    WE FANS DESERVES THIS

FABREGAS WOULD BE MY DREAM SIGNING NOW !!! And I’m sure if Arsenal makes an offer for him right now, I’m 100 percent sure that he would drop a transfer request at Chelsea.(THAT’S A PROPER LEGEND) he only has a year left on his contract also .

    1. VCC -there are not many Ramsey lovers who would disagree with you.If Chelski want him then we MUST insist on Cesc coming back.

  6. CESC won’t even demand crazy wages like Ramsey , and would be worth every penny .

  7. we could have had CESC back from Barcelona at a bargain , if we did, we would have either

    1. prevented the Carzola injury
    2. not miss Carzola much like we did
and we would have been better these last few years . BUT WENGER KNOWS BEST.

Wenger thought bringing back CESC would derail our young guns first team chances . but my question now is …… how many CM have we produced since CESC moved to chelsea ?? Ramsey would never be a role model to these lads that’s what wenger failed to understand !!! and this on its own, is a sack able offence .

    1. lets hope by next week his contract negotiations will be settled – whether they are or not he’ll remain an arsenal player otherwise the calibre of midfielder we really need in our lineup will likely be out of reach because we wont be seen paying the going price for the thiago, kroos, gundogan types of c.midfielder.

Insisting on cesc is an idea we entertain and then dismiss. we have to move forward with a new model inspired by our new coach rather than pining over cesc.

AMN lacks the experience to replace ramsey so before we throw him to one side perhaps greater thought needs to be given to where we get his replacement? …

…and then ensued an eerie silence

            1. Sue, what I don’t understand is where the overwhelming response to Emery’s views that he would look at every player and then make a decision has gone?
It seems he already has with regards to Ramsey, saying on many occasions that he wants him to sign a new contract. He is obviously impressed by the player.
Couldn’t be clearer than that could he?

With regards to Cesc coming back, our fanbase on here have such selective memories.
When he signed for Chelsea there was uproar from them. He was regularly ridiculed and verbally abused every time he played at the Emirates.
Would you want to return to a club that had fans with that mentality?

I really hope that he does come back, as he has now fulfilled his dream of playing for his home club.
We were his second home and it would be a good move, maybe to replace someone other than Emery’s golden boy Ramsey.

BUT BEWARE of this, because he was one of Wenger’s signings, who sprung from his loins, was his father, mother, uncle, aunt, brother, sister and Cesc still wears his Merci Arsene T-SHIRT in recognition of the great man’s wisdom in bringing him to our great club in the first place.,..,or was that Gazidis or Nelson Mandela?
In Emery I trust, what about the rest of you?

              1. I think Cesc divides the fan base, maybe not as much as Iwobi/Ozil though. I personally wouldn’t want him back, but there are probably thousands out there that would!

I trust Emery Ken, I really like what he’s done so far. I really hope he takes us back to where we belong

I’ll be really surprised if Ramsey doesn’t sign, even he’s said he’s looking forward to playing under Emery.. but who knows maybe because he’s been at Arsenal for a very long time, he’ll want to play elsewhere like Cesc did (probably not Barca though ?)

                1. Sue Ramsey’s comments have turned me off him even more. He speaks out both sides of his mouth.
                  1. He says wants to stay, loves club, blah blah blah.
                  2. Next sentence says he’ll leave it to his agent to work it out, hopes for the best.

Huh? If he loves club wants to stay, then sign the contract! Its been sitting there waiting, even when Wenger was manager!
I remember Adams saying when Arsenal put contract on table he signed it; that’s loving club.
Ramsey offered pay raise, very generous contract. Waiting for months and months, why?

I say money, last big contract, last big payday. Likely only gonna happen if he leaves on a free and next club can pay the high wage demands without the transer fee.

Sanchez ended very poor and foul, Ozil divided fans with his holdout, and now Ramsey doing exactly the same.

I’d bench him, he’d get last 10 minutes as a sub, and be rotation until he signs. After window closed I’d send him to U-23 to avoid last January repeat in dressing room

                  1. It’s obviously all about the money then Durand! He’s got a huge new house to pay for!
It’s a shame it all comes down to money these days, no loyalty…. contracts aren’t worth anything except big bucks when players move on! I believe the likes of Wright, Adams & probably more would have played for us for peanuts or maybe even nothing, because they loved AFC & still do. That would never happen these days!! Just strops are thrown when a player doesn’t get his own way hey Sanchez ?

                    1. With you Sue all the way. It’s not the money amount, hell I’d try to get £200k a week if I could!
It’s about the way he has carried himself.

He saw how Wenger’s contract crap affected the squad, how the locker room soured with Sanchez, and how divided the fans were over Ozil.

I don’t see the “club love” he adamantly proclaims. If they offered £250k per week I’m sure he’d sign b/c he “loves” club. However, £150k per week offer and has yet to sign; where’s the love.

Sell this guy, don’t need another Walcott. He needs Arsenal far far more than Arsenal need him.

              2. Ken, Would you really take him back at his age now? Serious question. Would you? Anyway, as I assume you must know and I certainly know, it is NOT going to happen. It is a fantasy debate by a bunch of non -realists on here today. (Ronnie Rooke is not coming back either! Sorry, I just thought that I would have a go at this new fantasy craze.) To be clear , I have always had lots of time for Cesc as a man and still do. He wanted to come back to us when leaving Barca but Wenger chose Ozil and did not want Cesc back. Some dullards then decided that made Cesc a traitor! THIS IS THE LEVEL OF MENTALITY SO MANY HAVE ON HERE and is one reason why I like debating with YOU.

                1. Not sure if that was aimed my way Jon, I just didn’t like the way Cesc left us in the first place, nothing to do with Arsene turning him down before he went to Chelsea

                  1. No Sue. Not you especially but to many others who seem to think Cesc should come back. I am not against the idea, God knows, BUT I am a realist and know it will not happen and I also like debating with other realists. In recent times on here the amount of fantasists have increased lots. IN GENERAL, more reality comes as we get older. And I am old , so have wonky knees, a balding head BUT a large dollop of reality to keep me sane. As sane as any dyed in the wool football fan , anywhere, can ever hope to be, which admittedly isn’t MUCH sanity.

                2. Jon, I don’t think either of us were having a go at Sue, I certainly wasn’t.
I do think that Cesc could be a good signing, especially with the captaincy debate in mind.
But like you, I can’t see it happening simply because he is seen as a Wenger signing and, absolutely correctly in my mind, Emery wants to build the club in his image.
I really appreciate what Emery has done so far, the team spirit already being shown is a credit to his management skills.
If, as Sue and Durand see the situation, it’s all about money, Emery will act quickly and decisively.
If he does go, then it will be his loss, as I see Emery building a team over the next few seasons that could possibly challenge for the title.

                  1. MY OWN THOUGHTS PRECISELY KEN. I would be happy to have Cesc come back, BUT it is not going to happen and that was ALL MY POST WAS SAYING

      1. You really think thiago , gundogan are better CM than CESC ?
Stats would also prove you wrong regarding Kroos also but I don’t go by stats and I will give you a pass mark on Kroos, I could also argue CESC is better than Kroos in every aspect except tackling. so what’s your point exactly ?

thiago isn’t even in the Spain squad at his age nor gundogan in Mancity or Germany first 11…

        1. i highlight these 3 only as alternatives to ramsey and (read again) to where i say

“the calibre of midfielder we really need in our lineup will likely be out of reach because we wont be seen paying the going price…”. i’m suggesting is that ramsey sale does not necessarily mean a higher calibre CM will come and take his place. i argue its because we won’t pay the going price for anyone noteworthy to better ramsey.

i argue that “pining” for cesc fabregas nowadays is regressive, its out of sync with our current requirement and present day initiative; what you suggested couldn’t be further from our manager’s new-arsenal-initiative which comes as a breath of fresh air.

          1. THANKS FOR BEING ON MY SIDE, AS ONE OF THE FEW REALISTS. Fabragas will NOT be coming back to us as YOU and I , almost alone on this site, fully realise. Why so many indulge in fantasy is a thing I , as a realist, will never understand.

            1. @Jon Fox – i very much welcome your comments on this platform – the fact you’re able to articulate yourself well in writing and added to that yours is what i value as noteworthy commentary underpinned by years of experience. Thank you for your kind words – and yes i am on your side there’s much i do like about your honest and often well reasoned opinion(s).

              1. Wow! I am glad you can’t see me blushing through unwarranted praise. But I do appreciate your comments and return them to you, though I realise we are of different generations. I would, in truth describe myself – and don’t you dare tell anyone else – as an old goat! But even old goats have gone round the block a few times and pick up just a BIT of wisdom , among all the mistakes they make.

        2. VCC, THIS REPLY IS TO ALL THE POSTS, NOT JUST YOU, WHO WOULD HAVE CESC BACK. It is nonsense and ain’t gonna ever happen, as all must know once they put their brains into reality mode. Sheer fantasy but I prefer debating things that have at least SOME chance of happening. I also like Fabragas but he is NOT coming back to Arsenal and as one of the few realists on here, I know it for a fact.

      2. Who will replace Ramsey? Hmmm… what exactly are we replacing?
Yes he is a decent player and an occasional match winner but the position he plays in for Arsenal is so important it requires a world class player (whether current, former or potential) who delivers consistently. I think we can all agree that boat has sailed for our dear Aaron.

Lets move on… Ramsey is not the answer. I just think maybe Maitland-Niles, Smith-Rowe, Guendozi might benefit from a presence like Cesc. Surely you guys can imagine that too… Plus he may contribute a couple of good seasons before retiring.

Anyway Cesc or no Cesc I think it is important that we move on without reminders of our recent past midfield failures. Just now I am trying to recall any match in which our current #8 dominated against a top 4 team in the last 3 years.
People cant give what they don’t have…. its as simple as that.

  9. You were making sense until you mentioned thiago, Kroos and Gundogan as the calibre of players we really need thereby dismissing the notion of CESC. .

    1. @ Victoria Concordia Crescit – if you do care to read it (above) iv added clarity – we’ve plenty more to agree upon other that is than this idea of wheeling out cesc as a present day solution.

on this point – i’m struggling to go along with your ideas on progress

  10. You want cesc back, what about Emery? He might not even think about that. Perhaps if Ramsey should leave us. It won’t be an issue for the squad as long as he makes the decision asap. So as to get replacement before its late because the young lads (AMN, ROWE and Co) all needs playing time in the domestic cups and the Europa league and also some games in the epl (may be weak opponents and some already won games.) so as to gain more confidence and experience required to challenge for the first eleven. Gunners till I die

  11. Sell sell sell!!! Chelsea are going downhill at the moment, and buying Ramsey from us would certainly bolster their credentials of being a side that will no longer be capable of challenging for major honours in the coming season.

I think that Man Utd will also be a shadow of their former selves, and will struggle next season with a past-his-best Moureen in charge. I reckon it’ll be ManC & Liverpool fighting for 1st/2nd next season, then us and Spuds battling for 3rd/4th, then Utd, Chelsea, and A.N.Other for 5th/6th/7th.

    1. When you also factor in Mourinhos third season syndrome which is now well established in his career, your Man U comment suddenly has more merit. Fancy working under a guvnor who is as miserable as sin from morn to night. UGH!

  12. If Ramsey doesn’t sign within the next few days, then sell him to highest bidder. If it is Chelsea, fine.
I really don’t see him as a player strengthening them.

  13. Only if we get a replacement and who is NOT Andre Gomes. We cant afford to lose Ramsey AND get no replacement.

So yes. I’m happy for us to sell Ramsey to Chelsea as long as we get a quality replacement.

  14. Why would this even be a concern… I’m appalled that they would even consider giving him a new contract. No player is bigger than the club. Madrid sold their best player, Barcelona sold Neymar… etc. We shouldn’t allow anyone – especially an average player like Ramsey to hold the club at ransom. Sell him & give the likes of Maitland Niles & the new kid (Matteo) a chance while recruiting technically better players.

  15. Outside our current crop of young CMs and box-to-box players, I can’t really think of many outings of quality players out there and available in the market; Max Meyer maybe, but I can’t vouch for his quality. Regardless, I’ll really like to see Ramsey leave for money in the region of 40-45 million. It shouldn’t even be a matter of if he’s going to sign or not, he’s way too average to be having leverage on us TBH.
So I say, sell him, get a much better replacement if possible and if not, give our young midfielders a chance and then go all out for a really good winger; in the mould of Leon Bailey, Wilfred Zaha etc.
