Are Arsenal finally set to sell Lucas Perez?

Despite the first League game just three days away, poor old Lucas Perez still doesn’t know where he will be playing this season despite Arsene Wenger aassuring him that he would be sold as there are simply too many strikers at the Emirates.

First of all Perez wanted to return to Deportivo, and then last week he was reportedly over in Turkey speaking to Fenerbahce, while his agent Rodrigo Fernandez Lovelle continues to whine that Arsenal want too much money for his client. “Lucas wants to play but it depends on Arsenal,” Lovelle said. “Arsenal want more [money]. We want to leave but if there is no agreement he has a contract with Arsenal. The ideal price is about €12m.”

Arsenal will never accept such a low price and the latest reports are saying that Arsenal want £13.5million for the 28-year-old that they paid £17m for just one year ago, and now it looks like Newcastle is set to be his most likely destination.

Rafael Benitez has already declared an interest in Lucas. He said: “I like the player, because I have good friends in La Coruna,” said the Magpies boss. “I know that he did really well. He’s come here and not played in many games, but I like the player.”

There is no doubt that Premier League clubs have more money than most other teams abroad so it seems to make sense to sell him to an English club, but wouldn’t you be worried that he will have a fantastic season and be desperate to score against us?

  1. I really had my doubts about Perez when he came, because of his poor goals record at a time when we badly needed a prolific forward, but I think he could have had a huge contribution if Wenger showed him the same kind of loyalty, and faith, he has done to the likes of: Walcott, Ramsey, Wilshere, Diaby, etc.

Yes he wasn’t the best defensively, but he was excellent in the final third (which is basically his job description). He always seemed to assist, or score, in the little game he had. Perez had great technically ability, which Wenger loves, and so baffles me even more as to why he was barely used.

Perez has been badly treated by Wenger, and I wish him success if he should move. I’ll always remember that stunning volley against Bournemouth. Truly WC goal!

    1. if perez got the loyalty walcott got- just imagine

      oh well,
stuck with the whippet , bye lucas, thanks for your service where possible

      1. PSG to test Arsenal with 88 million Euros for Sanchez ?? Are you going to help him pack or shall I? ??

  2. Good for all, hope he gets a move. We need to put together 4-5 deadwood sells to raise funds and clear wages for 2 more signings

  3. ON ANOTHER NOTE ID RATHER HE WAS RETAINED AND GIVEN A CHANCE THAN WALCOTT. HIM STAYING WOULD HAVE MADE MORE FINANCIAL SENSE THAN THE SITUATION WE’RE AT TODAY.

        1. WHAT DOES/DOESN”T MAKE FISCAL SENSE IS THE POINT I’M MAKING, THO I CAN’T SEE ITS A POINT BEEN MADE OTHER THAN MINE IN THIS THREAD…

        2. I read the article earlier and made several references to the Perez situation in the previous post about Dead Wood.

  4. Lucaz is a good player and will do well wherever he goes and i think most of us wish him well. He is worth more than currently offered but thats because everyone knows we want to sell him. It would be nice if we could put a buy back clause in his contract but at 28 i don’t think that will happen.

  5. ..AND IN ANSWER TO THE Q wouldn’t you be worried that he will have a fantastic season and be desperate to score against us?

NO IM NOT WORRIED BY L.PEREZ OR ANY OTHER PROSPECTIVE RIVAL’S STRIKER SINCE NOW WE’VE SAED KOLASINAC “THE JUGGERNAUT” IN PLACE TO BOLSTER OUR DEFENCE.

  6. Poor old perez? Yeah must be awful, stuck on £70k a week, told to lose a stone in weight if he wanted to be considered in the starting x1 and now almost 11 months later is now a stone and half over weight. The club have offered him a way into the first team, he hasn’t taken it and also a way out, by taking a £3.5m drop on what they paid. Taking into consideration his wages that is a £7m lay out for very little return.
Now what’s the next article? Poor old Debuchy? Poor old Gibbs? Poor old Jenkinson? Poor old Campbell? Poor old Akpom? Poor old Toral? Poor old Iliev? Just hand those 8 over to the new transfer guru (not sure how well he is doing so far?)
Once all 8 are gone we will have our 25 over 21s for the season. Then it’s a case of one in one out from the 25 and if it’s true that PSG and Barcelona are set to pay £80m, I would be snapping their arms off and working on Lemar.

  7. I don’t know how many players are better than Lucas in our team, sometimes I am sick of arsenal fc,he can create chances and he can score, why can,t Mr Wenger just give him the chance to play if not favoritism on is part……neymar is the most expensive signing in the world how many tackle does he make per game?marez becomes pfa player last two season because of his attacking flares not because he knows how to support the left back or right back,….what of Madrid?asenso is a good defensive winger? Arsenal need a solid holding midfielder like cansemero or kante that gives other the freedom to play to their full potentials…… Sometimes I don’t like it when some of us just focuses on the defensive side of a player although I know is relevant……

  8. Admin, article suggestion/request:

Would it be possible to get an article about whether Arsenal should continue with 3 at the back given our personnel? With the players we have, and the way that Arsene prefers to keep the ball, does our version of a 3-4-3 give us the best chance to win games?

    Cech
    Mustafi LK6 Monreal
    Hector Kolasinac
    Xhaka Ramsey
    Mesut Alexis
    Laca

Would love to hear insight and opinions on if we can make a top 4 push or a title run playing this shape given the players on our squad. Thanks

    1. You know you (or anyone) can write your opinion and send it to me (see CONTACT US in top menu)
If its well written I will publish it……
      Cheers

      1. I will take that into consideration. If I can construct something and remove my own personal biases towards specific players then I will definitely give it a try. Thank you.

  9. Over weight does Lucas really look over weight to you (Atid), looking at arsenal squad i can not say i have ever seen an overweight player. So, i am saying the issue with Wenger and Perez must have something to do with his outspoken attitude and i can see that irritating Wenger and perhaps some members of the Squad.

I felt Perez would have been great for the Ozil role, he actually creates opportunities and can score as well, really puzzled why he has not received the game time, but this mystery will not be solve until he moves on.

  10. I’m starting to believe Lucas is going no where……..Wenger seems reluctant to sell the guy…….and the guy does not want a pay cut but wants to play……….he probably is negotiating with Wenger for more game time…….Arsenal could use him in one of their competitions…..
