Arsenal 3 Scotland 0 – Giroud makes it 7 in 7!

All the talk in the media is about how Arsenal are trying hard to buy a striker to oust Olivier Giroud from the Gunners starting line-up, while in the meantime the Frenchman is trying to prove that he will not be giving up his place without a fight.

Last night Les Bleus played their final warm up game against Scotland, and Olly scored their first two goals in the space of 35 minutes, before Laurent Koscielny added another to make it Arsenal 3 Scotland 0! Here is how the official Arsenal website decribed the game.

Olivier Giroud scored twice and Laurent Koscielny headed in his first international goal as Euro 2016 hosts France beat Scotland in Metz in their final friendly before the tournament starts on June 10. Giroud opened the scoring with a superb backheel, before adding his second 10 minutes before half-time. Koscielny made it three soon after, heading powerfully beyond David Marshall. Giroud was substituted just after the hour, with Koscielny playing the whole game.

Giroud was given some stick by the France supporters in last weeks game against Cameroon, in which he also scored, but having brought his recent record to 7 goals in 7 games I wonder whether he was given the same treatment last night.

It is hard to believe that this is the same striker that went three months without scoring for the Gunners, but we have always known that Olly blows hot and cold during the year. Right at this moment he is on fire, and if he carries on in this form then France deserve to be favourites to go all the way in the Euros….

  1. giroud simply received a phone call from wilshere that vardy is on his way to arsenal and #boom, giroud nets a brace for france

    1. “He’s a fantastic player, so it’s good news for us.”
Giroud is also unworried by the prospect of elite
competition at the Emirates Stadium and insists
he knew the club would sign a forward this
      summer as they
“As I said in the past I am happy with
competition. We have always had fantastic strikers
at Arsenal and I want the best for this club.
Hopefully he is going to help us win this title,” he
      added.
“The boss wanted to sign at least one or two
strikers, so I expected a top striker and I think it
will benefit the club and hopefully he is going to
score a lot of goals like he did at Leicester.” -GIROUD ON VARDY TRANSFER.

  2. Where was this Giroud when we needed him to step up? -….- He can be a top striker on a good day but lack of consistency is what will keep away from being named among the greats.

  3. We need competition, Vardy in, Giroud stay, Danny to recover. Did hear Mkihitryan agent saying he prefers us to Chelsea? Get him quick. We need to field strong teams in all competitions.

  4. Watched France game yesterday, noted that they were very quick and direct, thats when Giroud scores from crosses from the wings! Giroud needs those Crosses from side players so we need to be direct and stop alot of tik tak

    1. we have played all those styles n still Giroud is a waste.. it’s not the style of play that determines if u can put d ball at d back of d net when u are clear on goal.

  5. I hope we are now at the end of the hold up play era … Very boring and disappointing to watch Giroud in Arsenal shirt …
    Best scenario will be:
Two strikers in and Walcott and Giroud out …
New top CB in and Mert out …

  6. Sometimes last two seasons..Giroud said….

    “Sometimes we pass the ball
    too much”

    Unfortunately,he is spot on!
Leicester are so so direct, they get the ball and move it forward quickly and Spurs also…

Therefore, next season we need to tweak our game a little…
We have to play all games as we played ManU at home…I don’t see why we can’t maintain that level,it will suit all our players especially Vardy and Sanchez!!!!!

  7. Giroud is a better player when there is another striker in the field. problem is we would have to sacrifice either in the midfield or the defense to have the extra striker. in the defense, it’s more riskier with a possibility to play with three defenders. Right now arsenal seem to be able to execute a superb three man defense with the personnel in the squad with three CB and with few additions or changes, but it’s dangerous play. Has more success in Serie A. In the midfield it affects the coherence in a squad that has more midfield talent in its ranks to have lesser places. The competition for places in the midfield becomes too much to be productive with some players in the squad possibly losing form for lack of consistent play. Giroud himself revealed that There is possibility of yet another Striker’s arrival after Vardy comes in…

    1. Mahrez vs Mkhitaryan…if Wenger gets any of these two players, we should ask the EPL 2016/17 to be declared and people can start playing the season after…We will win it before it begins…

  8. To be sincere I do not trust Oliver Giroud I call him an old lady now he feels he as competition in Vardy he is netting anything that comes his way. Wenger should go all the way and buy more prolific strikers not undermining Giroud what happened when he was in a drought for four months. Once he hears the news of buying new players especially strikers he puts up his best behaviour, well he will be relegated to the bench except he proofs his worth. If not he should be sold or loaned to another club.
