Arsenal aiming high for EPL star – Even Barcelona want him!

Arsene Wenger has promised the Arsenal fans a couple of top top quality signings this summer, and we are all hoping beyond hope that this time around he is telling the truth. In fact, in my opinion when he says that I always think he has already persuaded the new players to come to the Emirates!

One of the biggest Arsenal transfer rumours so far is that we are aiming to sign last years Premier League Player of the Year, Riyad Mahrez from Leicester City. The Algeria international has already told the Foxes that he wants to leave and made a very clear statement of his intentions. He said: He wrote: “Out of the huge admiration and respect I hold for Leicester I wanted to be totally honest and transparent. I have informed the club that I feel now is the time for me to move on.

“I had a good discussion with the chairman last summer and we agreed at that time that I would stay for another year. I’ve had the four best seasons of my career at Leicester and have loved every moment.

“I feel immense pride to have been a part of what we have achieved during my time at the club, culminating in becoming Premier League champions.”

I think Mahrez made that statement knowing exactly where he will be next season, and although Arsenal are supposedly the front runners and are reportedly willing to pay £40m for the 26 year-old, the lastest news from Spain is that Barcelona are also keen on taking him to the Nou Camp.

The report, from Don Balon, gives a quote from Mahrez saying that “anyone in the world would like to play alongside Leo Messi” which is a statement of fact, but in reality Messi already has Neymar and Suarez alongside him, so what are the realistic chances of Mahrez even getting a game at the Spanish giants?

I still make Arsenal favourites to sign Mahrez. What do you think?

  1. Would Mahrez improve us? yes he would so get him if possible. We also need a quality right winger just incase we switch formation in certain games.

Braeking news Court of Arbitration for Sport reject Atletico Madrid appeal against transfer ban.

Its could be good news for 2 things.

    1) Atlethico refuses to Sell Griezmann because they can’t buy anyone
    2) We have a free ride on Lacazette.

    1. @ Galen

You just said my mind concerning the Athletico news, unless we dont him we are now favourites to sign Lacazette and Manu wont get Griezmann.
Even with Sanchez we still need Lacazette, Galen just do an article on that already!!

      1. Lacazette will be a very good signing for us. He is a strong player and technical and will give us something we haven’t got.

    2. They cant refuse to sell Griezmann, anyone paying his release clause only needs Griezmann to say yes. And if he does become loyal and stay back, Lacazette will be target for ManU, already being linked

  2. Marhez would be replacing Turan if he goes there. I’d prefer Turan over Marhez, would not like to see Ozil and Marhez in the same side, it’s bad enough Ozil and Walcott already. But at least this new formation keeps Walcott out. Turan would look good with Alexis. I’d take Marhez as an Ozil replacement, but I’d prefer Turan or someone else.

  3. I prefer Mahrez than Ozil in the 3-4-2-1 formation, but 30 million plus price is too high for him. Like Ozil, Mahrez still needs the other players around him to play well, in order to show his skills.

His forms in this season went down because Leicester City played badly. Ozil, Mkhitaryan and Mahrez are not Sanchez that can still perform well even though his team doesn’t perform well. Hence I think Mahrez’s price should be below 30 million.

With 30 million plus money, Arsenal can chase Ousmane Dembele from Dortmund, Moussa Dembele from Celtic, Patrik Schick or Jean Michael Seri. Younger than Mahrez and possess similar skills.

    1. As a Scotsman who watches the SPL regularly, can people please, please stop mentioning Moussa Dembele from Celtic as an Arsenal target!!

Its all hype, he is nowhere near good enough!

  4. These players are supposedly on Wenger’s wish list:
    Lacazetti
    Mahrez
    Gibson
    Seri

    1. If and it’s a big if that’s true and keeping Sanchez would be the best window in a decade. I’m not a big fan of ozil as I would like home to work harder defensively. I don’t expect him to tackle just make sure he’s in the correct positions when needed. A front 3 of Sanchez, Lacazzette and Mahrez is quality

    2. Seri is bad ass. he is like xavi, his brains are on a different level. By far the best midfielder in the french league this season. I just worry about the African nations cup man. We can’t be having like 5 African players leaving for tournament.
Iwobi Elneny Henry. Thats my problem , we can sign African players but not many. Adding mahrez and Seri an losing 5 players is Madness. Nothing Against African Players, but we can’t have 5 players going away for 6 weeks. just no no no. Mane left and Liverpools season almost ended.

I would rather we sign one
      Tolisso, Gorentzka or Pablo Fornals.

With cazorla out till November, its not even a speculation anymore. We must buy a midfielder cause if Ramsey or Xhaka gets injured the Season is Over.

      1. Galen: You make a very important point about the signing of African players and the effect it could have on their parent teams during the African Cup of Nations. As you pointed out, the risk is high that each player could be called up, however it is also worth considering that the likes of Henry will not be a regular in our team and not all their representative countries will qualify for the competition. For example, if memory serves me correctly Elneny’s Egypt did not qualify for the last AFCON.

    3. Frosberg too because according to reports Arsenal apparently have bid 30 mil to his club for the player.

    4. Latest transfer rumour:
(Copied and pasted for your deflated faces ??)

The agent of Emil Forsberg has suggested the winger is ready to join a ‘big club’ amid reports Arsenal have tabled a £30m bid for the RB Leipzig star, according to reports.

Forsberg has just come off the back of an excellent season in Germany that saw him score 8 goals and provide an incredible 19 assists in his 30 Bundesliga appearances to help Leipzig finish second behind Bayern Munich.

The 25-year-old’s form has seemingly caught Arsene Wenger’s attention as after weeks of speculation linking us with the attacker, the Mirror report that we’ve tabled a formal £30m bid.

        1. No such thing as a Sanchez replacement. There is no one in world football fhat we can afford that can be a like for like replacement fod Alexis

      1. The bad news is: his supposedly a replacement for Sanchez ??

      2. That’s a Alexi replacement, simple as that. But we all knew Alexi would go and as controversial as this may seem if he doesn’t want to be there then he should go. Fantastic player (although for my tastes he holds on to the ball on many occasions when he could make the easy pass) but if he wants to go he should go.

If we get Frosberg, Lacazette and Mahrez and the young winger I would be happy.

  5. Please get these 6
    1. Mahrez
    2. Lacazette
    3. Isco
    4. Matuidi
    5. Van Dijk
    6. R. Rodriguez

    Sell
    1. Jenkinson
    2. Debuchy
    3. Sanogo
    4. Wilshere
    5. Campbell
    6. Walcott

    1. Wenger said Walcott has finally finished his developing and this year he will be defo ready so Walcott isn’t going anywhere and rightly so.

    2. Your sell list is more than likely to come true.?
But as for your buy list, only 1 & 2 are realistic.

  6. Latest news on Sanchez and Ozil’s contract negotiations:

The Mirror claim that Ozil has been offered a weekly pay-rise from £140,000 to £280,000, but the German is demanding an extra £70,000.

Alexis is currently on £140,000 per week too, per The Mirror, who suggest that the two players have joined forces to make sure they both get huge salaries at the Emirates Stadium.

The newspaper state that 28-year-old duo are keeping a close eye on each other’s contract talks.

I didn’t realise that both players were only on £140,000 a week ?
They doubled Ozil’s wages and his still wants £70,000 more ???
Anyways, by the sound of it there’s still hope of keeping Sanchez if he is offered the £350,000 a week that his after, I say sell Ozil and give Sanchez what he wants.?

    1. As for me Ozil is just an opportunist Forsberg is much a hard worker, good tackler, nifty passes, and still scores great free kicks.

For me Ozil can go but Alexis will be happy to play alongside Forsberg!

    2. Fatboy Gooney, my thoughts exactly. I said that in a comment on this website 6 months ago. Ozil is lazy and a passenger in to many games. And really him wantimg , $350,000 p/week is crazy talk, he ain’t worth a cent over $170,000 a week .
      COYG

    3. I have reap rumors that they are waiting to see what we do in the transfer market, if we are going to show intent or not.

I guess that kinda makes sense, if they want to win stuff and they believe we need quality (like us supporters) then why not use your contract as a tool to get what you want?

I wonder if City will pay Alexis £280k a week when Aguero and YaYa are their biggest earners at I think £220k a week. City though show intent in transfer markets and look like they want to actually win stuff and not just make up the numbers… If we shown the same ambition then would we have to pay so much on wages to keep them?

    1. Mahrez has been poor this season, yes he had an unbelievable season when Leicester won the title but he was average the season before that as well.

1 great season out of 3 makes you worry he was just a 1 season wonder!!

  7. let the annual lunacy begin.

xmas wish lists, championship managers, and prayers to allay/god/budda [pick one of your choice if not here]

  8. If we can get Isco & Lacazette then a powerful left back with another solid midfielder. Arsenal will become untouchable.

  9. Ozil wants more for doing nothing, please sell him and buy isco and give Sanchez 300k that he deserves and we move on everyone is happy.

  10. I been saying sell Ozil and buy Isco all year. Better player more consistent and wont demand more than $180,000 p/week. Give Alexis what he wants buy Lacazett, Isco, Gueye, Fabihno or Raboit with Kolisinac coming and we are set for a proper title challenge next year if Wenger can get the tactics right
