Arsenal are a TOP club – Man Utd and Spurs are NOT

As usual the transfer window is very frustrating for Arsenal fans, with very little in the way of solid information forthcoming from the Gunners camp. Oh to be a Liverpool fan, with nine signings already, including Benteke, who I wouldn’t have minded at Arsenal…. but I digress.

So anyway I found this excellent quote from the former France manager Raymond Domenech. He was talking about the proposed move of Hugo Lloris to Manchester United, and he doesn’t seem very happy with the idea. In fact he thinks that Man United cannot be classed as a top English team any more, and he puts them on the same level as Tottenham!

‘I have no decision to take for him, but in my opinion he has to play in Chelsea, Arsenal, or Manchester City, to play in the European Cup,’ he told the Mail.

‘Tottenham is a big club – it is not the biggest. Manchester United qualified for the Champions League, but I can’t really see the difference with Tottenham.

‘For me, it’s Chelsea, Arsenal, or Manchester City. Because I think Manchester United is no more a big club, in England, for me. I think like that.

‘I think that Arsenal will be every time a big club, Chelsea also – City is becoming a big club – but I think United is with Tottenham, with the other clubs. Not one of the biggest clubs, so there’s no difference.

‘For me he’s a great goalkeeper so he needs to be in the best English club, or French, or Italian, or German.’

We all know that Man United have suffered since Alex Ferguson retired, but after just two years out of the Top Two can we really dismiss them out of hand for the future? They are spending fortunes and are (just about) in the Champions League. Are Arsenal and Chelsea really the only two top teams in the Premier League now?

  1. I think he s drunk…! For spurs yes their not big club but, for him to say United is not a big club I totally disagree with him on that let not carried away with what is happening to them now, but deep down every body,s minds we know he not speaking the truth. I bet u will a good manager not like the comedian the called manager right now they are still dangerous.

      1. seriously admin? I posted that in one of the last three article. don’t think it worth been an article. u stole it from me looools

    1. I am not saying to disregard manU.
      BUT.
Anyone that cant see that for over 25 years United WAS Fergie and vice versa was blind.
The man was a huge influence mentally even on referees.

    2. With lvg manure are a small team. They need to change their coach to have any chance of silverware. Feels great talking about silverware, we have won 3 of them for the past two years nice to be a gunner.,.we are a top team and will reach higher levels if we sign two more quality players.so close to turning into a European giant

    3. @Arsenal’s 1st knight..by saying he is drunk! U meant 2say he needs mpre lenses in his spectacles!…2help him distinguish Man U from spurs.

    1. Yes KAF, whether he is right or wrong don’t matter – it is just very, very funny.

  2. Thanks Domenech, but we ain’t that big until we end our long lasting epl drought …
OT: Already fed up with the transfer rumors, too much lies to handle …

  3. Well, if this was a war cry then it failed miserably. I can understand Spuds being a small club (although the same people hail EPL level where no team is small anymore) but Manure? Like really? Isn’t this the guy calling Wenger deluded?
But then again, admin is desperate to keep this site alive therefore he’s pushing such nonsense on the front page. Pathetic at best.

    1. I would not call it nonsense. You all moan when someone says something unsavourable about Arsenal; when they say something bad about us and praise our rivals. This is something nice and you call it nonsense?

      1. That is actually not true. I am very open to constructive criticism. And I believe everyone sane is feeling the same way.

        1. Well, on behalf of France and Arsenal FC, I do hereby welcome the comment made by Raymond Domenech as sane and “constructive”.

          1. You can obviously elaborate why do you think Domenech’s comments in the British rags were constructive or even sane (especially in regard to Manure). I believe the interview was conducted in French and I am fairly certain he did not really meant “big” as it was interpreted here. I believe he meant form at the moment not if Manure or the Spuds are big clubs.
You may welcome his comments as constructive but that doesn’t mean they are. There’s nothing that could suggest Manure will do a Liverpool. These guys have basically unlimited resources and for that they are arguably the most valuable club in the world.
Never hurts to be humble and crush them in the process. The joy is even greater.

      2. He isn’t talking about them saying something nice about arsenal it’s the bit about United. How many titles have either team won in the last 5 years? Again we love arsenal but to seriously say United is a small club is incorrect

  4. Arsenal and Manchester United are great/big clubs……..What makes a club big is their history and records. Manchester United had two not so great season finishing 7th and 4th respectively but labelling Manchester United in the same category as Tottenham is disrespectful….I know we wanna take a dig at Manchester United but they are still a Top Club……

  5. he says arsenal is better than man city 😀 😀 😀 LOL!!
Two words for him..deluded! okay, its actualy one word 🙁

  6. To say that Man U is not a big club and to label it as the same as Tottenham is the craziest thing I have ever heard and it would be denying the obvious truth. Rivalries aside, deep down inside we all know that Man U is a big. And admitting that Man U is a big club is not disrespecting or being unfaithful to Arsenal it is just the truth.
The guy used astrology to pick up his squad and he was one of the worst France coach in history of French football. May be he is not over the fact that Patrice Evra played great role in his sacking as France coach.

  7. Raymond Domenech has always been a bit of a strange character… Weird view to share publicly, just makes him look stupid despite being quite funny from an Arsenal fans perspective.

  8. If you’ve stopped clicking on The Metro Arsenal transfer rumours, Thumbs Up. If you still do, Thumbs Down.

    1. and all the Metro “sources” – NoEasyGames, 4thOfficial, NastyTackle, CaughtOffside, SportsCampus, MIUSoccer, SoccerTransfers, TouchlineTalk, FootballFanCast, TeamTalk, FootyLatest, EyeFootball, Talking Baws, TeamTalk, sportzwiki…..etc

Metro are so bad they can’t even be arsed to make up their own rumours.

  9. They are a big club. Big players, big manager, big history …. still settling after upheaval of Ferguson leaving.

Domenech probably means mAN utd are not guaranteed to finish in the top 4. And unlikely to challenge for the title every season.

Remember Domenech has a big history of criticising Wenger and our players, often fell out with Thierry Henry because of it.

  10. I dont like Domenech too much.
But I think he got the “during fergie/ after fergie” mood in his words.
Lets face it, United were a lot more frightening with Red nose Rudolph there chewing his gum…he had alll refs under his spell and could win a game with a chess move. (bar that final v Barcelona where he wanted to play a Pep role and failed)

      1. wha !, ADMIN , you are irish ?. i thought you were scotia !. what part you from then , KK here.

        1. J’etais ne en Derry, habitez en Londres quand j’etais jeune, parle Francais, et maintenant vivre en Espagne…
          Je suis European!

  11. The truth is We don’t beat United and Chelsea. We don’t win prem no more and we have never won cl. How can you say United are not big club. These teams city United and Chelsea have better cf then giroud

  12. Arsenal is a big club,Man Utd is a big club,Chelsea has been catching up lately, and Mancity has been competiti, but spurs have been very busier in the transfer market..
    I think he meant that!
