Arsenal are complete and only looking at players leaving this summer

Unai Emery gave his first pre-match conference yesterday ahead of Arsenal’s game at Boreham Wood this afternoon, and he gave us all the impression that he thinks that the five signings we have brought in already should be enough for him to do his job this season, and now he is looking at which players should be leaving. Emery told Arsenal.com: “Normally, in my career the big clubs don’t close the [door] or the moment to sign a new player. Today, we are OK. Maybe we can bring in one if there’s a very good possibility for them to help us, but the club has done a great job of signing new players and I am happy.”

“We signed the players who we needed and only if one player is a big opportunity for us will we sign them. Normally, we are thinking about the young players, the possibility of them staying with us or going to play on loan at another team.

“We are also thinking about the players who were with us last year and whether we need them to stay with us. At the moment, I think the squad is complete. We will only sign another player if there is an opportunity to bring in that one player, or two players. We will only sign a player in the next month if he’s a big opportunity.”

And this is what the Coach had to say about Steven N’Zonzi: “I know him but we haven’t made a move for him.”

we may not have ‘made a move’ just yet, but I still think that N’Zonzi is being held in reserve in case Aaron Ramsey doesn’t extend his contract, and the Welshman is running out of time to reach an agreement. I think this will be the biggest story over the next week or so. Maybe we will know his decision when we see the team that is flying to Singapore to face Atletico and PSG….

  1. 2 of the most intriguing lines of 2018
Dr.Stephen Strange: this is the end game

Unai Emery: will only sign another player if there is an opportunity to bring in that one player, or two players

    1. What 1 30 and 34 year old defender a keeper that is very error prone and 2 youngsters that are relatively unknown I doubt the big clubs will be quaking in their boots at the prospect of facing this team!!

      1. Didn’t mention torreira as think he will be a decent signing it’s a type of player that we needed maybe 5 years plus to late but at least better than nothing!!!

        1. @Dan… He signs Sokratis, he’s too old. he signs Torreira, he’s too young and inexperienced. what exactly do you want?

          1. Age should be immaterial; it’s whether the player is good enough. Lichtsteiner and Socratis have age which brings experience; both are still playing for their respective national teams. They will also be able to mentor younder players. What was needed was to shore up the defense to avoid leaking goals. For the Arsenal 2017/18 was a defensive nightmare.

      2. @Dan

Put it this way. Have we improved the quality of the squad – YES. Have we strengthened our weakest areas – YES Are we moving out the deadwood – YES.

I get what you’re saying in terms of marquee signings, but you have to remember that we don’t have a rich benefactor, it’s our second straight season of no CL football, and the club as a whole, has been a million miles off the top for well over a decade. Tough to bring in the big names in that situation.

        1. Sue, don’t worry about age; Lichtsteiner has retained his speed and is still selected for Switzerland. Just remember Usain Bolt was almost 31 when he retired from sprinting.

      3. Ronaldo is 33. He must be useless in your view. But who cares about your laughable views?

  2. Leaving…..ospina..jenkinson…ellneny..wellbeck..perez…cambell..
    Gone….willshire..cazorla..mertz ret…
    Loan…holding…nellson..willcock…

  3. From the article:
“we may not have ‘made a move’ just yet, but I still think that N’Zonzi is being held in reserve in case Aaron Ramsey doesn’t extend his contract,”

Known fact or more likely an assumption, N’Zonzi is waiting for Ramsey to decide his future before he N’Zonzi decides his future. What if N’Zonzi makes a move independent of Ramsey? It is possible, isn’t? What then?

    1. If we have spoken to Nzonzi at some stage ..then its a decent assumption to make.

Us ruling ourselves out ..either says there was never any interest to begin with ..or else it means Ramsey’s talks sounded positive when speaking to Emery and Fahmy. I suppose it could also be us trying to be hush hush, we are interested but not at that price, and I suspect Seville want to sell considering his age and how his value will only decline. Seville are a selling club, they look silly when they try to play hard ball. We don’t know Emery well enough but I believe its one of the first two options.

      1. In other words you believe it is a good assumption to believe that N’Zonzi s waiting around for Arsenal to say “here boy, here boy” and will do nothing until he hears the magic words or that Ramsey has decided to stay then N’Zonzi will decide his future. Well you are welcome to your assumptions, but that is all they are.

        In transfer terms.

Fact Details of a player arriving or leaving announced on the Arsenal official website.

Anything else is make believe or what people who don’t know want you to believe. Not for me.

        1. I believe we’re the ones who unsettled him in the first place. The reports anyhow, same with Soyuncu. I reckon Nzonzi would hold out for a bigger club to come along, esp ourselves. So I think its a decent assumption to make. But what I believe is, the fact I gave three scenarios and we don’t even know if we spoke with the player, means we are in the dark with this one, all we can do is make assumptions.

  4. Leno
    Bellerin-Sokratis-Mustafi-kolasinac
    Torreira- xhaka
    Ozil – Ramsey – mhki
    Aubameyang

Looks like a strong side. Still think we need a winger since Ozil and mhki are not conventional wingers. A dm would also be nice. Not sure if Torreira is really the dm type player we need, seems more like a cm. But mostly a strong side that can challenge

    1. mate are you sure the line up is strong with kolasinac and mustafi. think about it.
we need a winger for sure.

    2. Both Ozil and Ramsey suck on the wings. If Ramsey leaves, there will be a slot for a winger

If Torreira can intercept the threats as good as Kante in World Cup, he is the ultimate DM. Xhaka has to be replaced by a more technically gifted player like Cazorla, unless Emery has another plan for him or maybe Elneny can step up

I think the big opportunity to sign a big name player would arise after the World Cup. Hopefully he is gonna be a world class winger like Bale or Di Maria

      1. That teams is garbage. Still need a center back. Xhaka is far and away not good enough. and ozil is not a winger. can ramsey maybe sit deeper and be box? depends how well torreira plays. but i would prefer to sell ozil and buy a world class winger and then play myky at number 10. now thats a top 2/3 team in the PL. the above team is 4/5

    3. I agree with the lineup, although I question where you say we need a DM.
Have you seen Torreira play? He’s definitely the DM we need.

I also understand the winger conversation, but I honestly think we over-estimate wingers
this day in age. Look at Man City, they out played the whole league without pure out-in-out wingers who never played in the middle (and Leroy Sane was converted to winger from a midfielder).

I honestly feel if the a player is smart enough, has good passing ability, good vision, and mainly great understanding with the other players around him, then they can play on the wing. The full backs can provide width if need be.

      1. What are you saying? Sane was always a winger, sterling is a winger, bernardo silva is a winger and they just signed mahrez another winger. Their wingers were a big reason they scored so many goals. Ask ferguson, he would tell you the importance of having good wingers in your squad.

  5. Reminds me a bit of Arsene with his big opportunity line. He must have been told that by the board. It seems we still aren’t a club that goes after that big player by force, we’re still opportunistic. Whenever we heard that in the past it meant this is it, Alexis and Ozil might fall into opportunist approach I don’t know but mostly we knew not to expect that big arrival. Wonder how this one will go. Would love to see us get competitive over a top top player and even take the initiative. We have a team in here ready for the transfer market, we should let them loose and see what they can do if backed financially. Raul could come in handy with Real, this might be a big opportunity type he spoke about.

  6. Emery has said no more signings unless one more opportunity arises, that means we might not get anyone else in which I believe isn’t enough to challenge into the top 4. I’m happy with what we have done so far don’t get me wrong but we still need a winger, preferably marquee one to makes this window an over all success. It already is as we plugged the holes needed but there has to be one big signing after we shift a few players out.

This is being said incase we can’t get anyone so the fans won’t be annoyed.

  7. The squad is stronger than last season and the larger issue of why we performed badly has been removed.
Aubeyang will fly this season and those who never gave their all no longer have a soft boss so will either perform or get shipped out. Unai wants to prove himself and has no sentimental ties to his new squad so they either do their job or they get benched/ sold. It maybe a a great season but in all reality this guy has a couple of seasons to really show what he can do and I am very positive about his approach so far. Judging him before his team have kicked a ball is harsh and narrow minded.

  8. Not enough to get back in the top 4
Spuds, City, United and Liverpool are still ahead of us.

      1. ?Arsenal need Emery to develop a champion team, not necessarily a team of champions. The whole has to be greater than the sum of its parts.

  9. Pathetic fans, if you all are that good, then why haven’t any of you managed any team? Unai knows what he wants, shut up and let him do his job.

    1. Someone finally said it, no wonder we are quickly turning to the most hated fans around. Chill out people and let the man do his job

  10. We need to really ask what these fans wants ? what is the job of the fans and what good does a fan who never sees anything good in their team ? support the team is your first priority
