Arsenal confirm Shkodran Mustafi signing! What’s your view?

Arsenal have officially announced the signing of German international Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia, although they do not quote the fee paid within their announcement.

This is how they announced his arrival on the official Arsenal website.

‘German World Cup-winning centre back Shkodran Mustafi has joined us from Valencia.

‘The 24-year-old defender has been with the Spanish club for two seasons, making 64 league appearances. He began his senior career by coming through the academy at Everton before spending two years with Sampdoria in Serie A.

‘Shkodran, who is currently on international duty with Germany, becomes our sixth signing of the summer. Lucas Perez, Granit Xhaka, and the young trio of Rob Holding, Takuma Asano and Kelechi Nwakali have all recently joined.

‘Arsène Wenger said: “He is at the right age. He has good experience. He is a very focused player who can play with the ball as well. We have taken a great player but have prepared well for the future.”

‘We’re delighted to welcome Shkodran to the club. Please stay close to Arsenal.com for confirmation of his squad number.

‘The deal is subject to the completion of regulatory processes.’

The German has been linked with our club for some time now, and this long-drawn out process has finally been announced, and we can finally relax a little about our squad.

Perez was also announced as confirmed earlier today, but we may not be done just yet, with Miguel Almiron and Marcelo Brozovic both possibilities.

Will Shkodran be able to keep Holding, Gabriel and Mertesacker out of the first-team? Is our squad now strong enough to challenge for the title? Let us know below.

  1. View: It is awesome deal. I might be exaggerating but we would have best defense in league. May be best defense after Invincible era. Boss, Mustafi, Bellerin and Moneal. 🙂

  2. Would’ve been a god send if he joined the club about a month before the Liverpool game. But hey, better late than never. Does anyone else get the feeling Arsenal are not finished in the window just yet?

    1. Loaning out Chambers, Campbell and Jack and selling Gnabry does suggest that another player could be coming in… As long as it is not Sturridge ffs! Lol ?

    1. But the moment Holding makes a mistake people are going to yell at Wenger for not starting our 35mill experienced defender. Holding is still very young, and we’ve already seen from his playing that he has a lot to learn, and he has a stray pass in him every game. (his passing percentage at Bolton was in the 60’s.) The kids already been thrown into a crazy situation and has done great, but let’s ease him in instead of throwing him. I wouldn’t be surprised if he get’s ahead of Gabriel tbh.

      1. I wanted to thumb you up there but, There are lots of similarities between Gab and a young Kos. Lots of raw talent, speed, aggression, timing and some very costly mistakes to boot. Despite doing his best to convince otherwise I think Gabriel will grow in stature and keep Merts out of the team this year

  3. Finally two new gooners. Cant wait for the international break to end to see them in the arsenal Jersey. Loan moves for chambers is gud he migyt learn alot and it will tell us if he really has the potential to be at our club.
For wilshere id love him to go to a club which would encourage him to go back to basics less dribbling and more of passing. No buying clause in the deal thats a trap we should avoid. Wish all the gooners going out on loan all the best. Let them learn and cme back stronger with more fire

    1. I wouldn’t hold your breath if you’re expecting Wenger to throw the new signings straight into the starting lineup.

      1. Haha i think we might see a new wenger. Who would hve thought a day would cme when he would loan out his fav wilshere. I still cant beleive it

        1. he even bought a striker! the position that he never wanted his step son to be bothered at.. really this is new Wenger

Apologies, Arsenal in talks with Werder Bremen over sale of winger Serge Gnabry. Not done yet but would be permanent deal#AFC #Werder

      1. Hahaha ? And How much do you think Arsenal are selling Gnabry for? …. £7 – 8 millon. ?

Campbell, Chambers and Jack wheelchair being loaned out will earn and save the club a few million.

        1. Still not enough. We need to cut our squad down to 11 players, and get rid of the bench, and selloff the seats.

    1. wow, first time I’ve ever seen Ornstein having to backtrack on a tweet. Praying there is a buy-back clause in this contract at least.

  5. 3 good signings it seems with holding looking promising! Few players leaving nice little shake up that was required.would love James Rodriguez on loan on deadline day ??

  6. During the euros just gone I remember a German defender making up some serious on an attacker and sliding in for an amazing block tackle. I recollect thinking wow that guys got pace, I wonder who he is and wished we had him at Arsenal. I now realise that defender was Mustafi! Delighted today other fans can no longer call us spineless, mustafi/kos, xhaka, ozil, perez/giroud now that’s a spine 🙂

    1. @Ronny,

And Mustafi is probably in his best age!

After his 5 year deal finishes, he’ll be 29 already. Anyone know whats his injury record?

Off topic, but Inter wrapped up Gabigol and Joao Mario. Looks like they intend to get back in the Champions League. Maybe we should try loaning Wilshere there? 😉

      1. Good shout, Though smoking used to be a national passtime in Italy, is it still the same? as Jack could do with living in the outer hebridies for a while with no distractions to bring back his focus

  7. Chelsea is running around at the last minute trying to sign David Luis and Lopez while Wenger apparently had both Mustafi and Perez sorted out before the weekend. So why haven’t I read one article about Conte’s panic buying and questioning why he has left it so late? Or why Guardiola waited so long to bring in Bravo?

Seriously, the mainstream media in this country are like sheep.

    1. also how media is saying Mustafi is going to be unsuccessful, while United got praised for Eric Bailly, even before he kicked a ball. Only one of these players have a World Cup to their name, yet Bailly has the better reputation magically since he went to United. Arsenal would’ve been criticized if we bought him.

  8. Iately I have relentlessly bashed Wenger for his attitude towards the transfer market and rightly so. But now I guess it would only be proper that I commend him for finally doing the right thing by signing players in the positions we need strengthening.

Signing Mustafi was an excellent move, so now Koscielny has finally has been given a solid partner at the back. I say Wenger take a bow on that one. But for Perez? I still have my doubts, I believe we should have gone for a proven prolific world class striker for our top striker.

I think Wenger gambled on Perez hoping the gamble will pay off, which for me is not good enough. So I give no praise to Wenger on that one. But on the whole I think our team is a much more complete side now and with the right mindset I think we can challenge for the EPL this season. And finally at this point I would like to say a big welcome to Mustafi and Perez to the Emirates.

      1. Like lewandowski, griezmann, aubameyang, ronaldo, messi, neymar, suarez, aguerro, bale. OK some of these are high scoring wingers but the are all readily available and within our price bracket,

  9. End eventually we got whats needed Arsenal are now a complete team with strength all over the bitch So happy here and looking forward on with the Arsenal campaign

  10. This is a champion league squad. Technical abilities speed and a strong defence. Teams will fear us before we kick a ball. They know it won’t be easy scoring n we have a DM that won’t be caught on the break away because they discipline to cover a good defense. Then we got goal scorers who can catch a team on the break especially Barcelona. Look how many times we got the break but only ox and Sanchez were ahead. Now we got Perez. I’m telling you guys that teams know that if they get their tactics wrong they can be in trouble

    1. very true, the third goal against Watford made me so proud, it’s been long since we last scored a beautiful unpredictable goal like that. hoping for more to come from our fast attackers.

  11. IF we gonna loose wilshere ,Will Hughes will be a great option
Now if Gnabry moves out, we must have got oliver burke!!

I know wilshere will move away, the topic was striking on my mind since last 10days
this term we need strong squad!! no injuries no silly reasons!! we need to be perfect
in all positions..I still feel we need someone!! Let me tell why

Nacho Monreal is very good till 60 to 65 min, after that we are weak in that position
during last term and even during liverpool match we lost points due to lack of energy
in the final third from the left side!! more crosses , attacks are from left side
So we need a fully fit and energetic LB!
A ST!! last moment bid for sturridge..
Whoz gonna replace wilshere? i feel Will Hughes will be good!! its ok even if we dot buy
