Arsenal debate: Which Gunners are indispensable?

Arsenal have endured a disappointing second-half of the season, and as the campaign draws to an end, we thought we’d analyse the current crop of players we have in our midst.

This summer looks likely to be an interesting one, with Pep Guardiola and Antonio Conte having been confirmed as joining big-spending sides Manchester City and Chelsea, and we will need to concentrate on bringing in a solid bunch of players to keep the pace with our rivals.

Mathieu Flamini, Tomas Rosicky and Mikel Arteta all have their contracts ending this summer, while Kieran Gibbs, David Ospina, Wojciech Szczesny, Theo Walcott, Olivier Giroud and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all been linked with potential exits.

One group of players is not one we would like to consider selling, due to their importance to the team, but that is the group I’m wanting to concentrate on. Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alex Iwobi have earned the right to be the first names on the team-sheet, but if the trio was to have a massive falling out, and one had to leave, could you decide?

It is of course a tough choice, but for me the most indispensible player is the latter. Iwobi has the potential to be better (in my eyes) than the duo. He has all the traits to become one of the world’s best, and his potential rates over the ability of the aforementioned others.

Ozil the creator and Alexis the goalscorer is another matter. The German is our player of the season this year, while the Chilean was last year. Alexis has come into form at this end of the campaign, while the former Real Madrid man has seemingly gone off the boil…

I don’t think I can decide…

Which Gunner is most easily replaced?

  • Alex Iwobi (61%, 164 Votes)
  • Alexis Sanchez (21%, 56 Votes)
  • Mesut Ozil (18%, 49 Votes)

Total Voters: 269

  1. Iwobi one Kenobi is good but not in the same ‘force’ as Sanchez and Ozil .. yet!… He may even slip down the same slopes as Gnaby, next season.

    1. I can’t believe people actually voted Ozil and Sanchez smh, without them we would be 6th at least

  2. Let’s see if Simeone is a good Manager now. Gimenez was having an awful last 15 minutes, which could’ve cost them another goal. Will Simeone sub him?

    1. It’s 1-1 now because Simeone is a manager who thinks on his feet,at the start of the second half he’s made a tactical switch from a 4-5-1 to a 4-4-1-1 with Griezmann in behind Torres, his team is showing fight something you’ll never see from Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal

      1. koke in the middle carrasco on the wing.
        simeone is quality

just another pro active manager that is tactical an hungry

        sigh

  3. only few would have scored there
    griezmann is elite

his price is 70 plus in my mind , baring in mind his stats his age his attitude
    magnificent player

    1. What a laughable comment jamaicanarsenal, the Atletico Madrid defence is too strong they made Messi,Neymar and Suarez look ordinary but that doesn’t mean they’re not special players,Lewandowski is a world class striker who’s streets ahead of our useless first choice striker Giroud!

    2. And there you go. .. Lewandowski goes and does what the The Three Barcelona Stooges couldn’t! ? ?

      Away goals … anyone? ?

All Madrid final and a all Spanish final in the Europa league.

No doubt … Munich will score again, just to mug me up! ?

  4. Here is an example of PLAN B.. simenoe changes formation and made an effect..guardiola does the same and made an effect..tacticians not the old rigid system and changes on 80 mins or when there is no chance to turn game around as our coach does. Griezmann would have cost us 30 millions when it was there THE FANTASTIC ARSENAL SCOUTS to be spotted no they find the likes of SANOGO. it is true what some has said, this was our chance. SMALLER TEAMS LIKE LEICESTER WILL WANT TO EMULATE THE ACHIEVEMENT THEY HAVE DONE OR AT LEAST TO COMPETE FOR THE TOP 6 which will make it even harder for the top 4 ( well they will spent ) we will be sufering as for the last 12 years. god bless us..change is needed.

  5. Quick Wenger put a bid in for Lewandowski! Lol
Honestly though I’ve always wished we had Griezmann.

        1. What!, European clubs are better than English sides. Oh my god, when did this happen. Ill be sure to spread the news …OMG

  6. You got to admit, I’m not one to encourage putting your hands on people for no reason but Simeone is always fun to watch. True entertainment from the sidelines…

  7. All Arsenal players should have watched the Bayern-Athletico game along with the staff. Disgraceful team Arsenal have is beyond the fans of how can they screw up matches. Whether Wenger is interested or not can’t say. It takes a strength in interest to win the match and this team where Giroud is in need of motivation which is not provided by manager but keeps on saying he needs it.

    1. If you and some of the other gangbangers up there haven’t realised Arsenal is not the only English club that’s been coming up short in Europe. The European clubs are streets ahead of prem sides.

  8. Simeone Simeone
    Ole ole ole
    Simeone Simeone
    Ole ole ole
An ok game with a few decent players on show
while Real v City at the Bernabeu will have its moments.
But c’mon you have to admit for real quality football, drama, excitement,
mental strength, cohesion, spirit and atmosphere there’s no beating
Arsenal v Norwich 1-0 at the minirates stadium and why we always sing
One Arsene Wenger there’s only one Arsene Wenger …

    1. The thing is, people only thumb you up as they don’t realise that your being ironic! 🙂

  9. I voted for Alexis why, cos
    1) he runs around too much without an end product most times
    2) his game is more readable by most defenders now
    3) if he’s all that, why did Barca get rid of him
    4) his interlink play is not that good
    5) he gives the ball away far too often
    6) too independent really- not much of a team man

Overall an excellent player but at his age he is quite replaceable and I believe Iwobi has the hunger, drive and youth to go on from strength to strength. Besides, he is humble and a team boy!

    1. Totally agree with you man!!
1st and your comment…the rest comments as usual off topic.

    2. Here we go. .. I mean.. here Sanchez goes! ?

Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez has reportedly told his agent that he wants to move to Manchester City this summer.

According to shock reports from Spanish media outletDon Balon, the Gunners ace is fed up with life at the Emirates and was left furious after being substituted against Norwich on Saturday.

It’s understood Sanchez’s agent, Fernando Felicevich, will inform Valencia, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid that his client is looking for a move.

But it’s claimed the Chile international would prefer to remain in the Premier League and City is an option

  10. Please did campbell and Le coq did something awful to be receiving the type of treatment they are getting from Arsene Wenger? Playing the same B2B midfielders together just to favour his indispensable son Ramsey who just came back from injury and walked straight into the first team, not even putting joel on the bench……..yet some funny fans are shamelessly singing Wenger’s Name,I still can’t believe it.

  11. Only three players listed that are considered indispensable..
Speaks volumes for how many we have that should are considered indefensible.
