Arsenal Debate: Will Alexis injury derail our title chances?

Last season Arsenal started in brilliant fashion with Alexis Sanchez playing out of his skin after his win in the Copa America, but it must be said, most Gooners knew that he was being overplayed and it was only a matter of time before his body reached the burn out stage.

But Alexis himself hates being on the sidelines and kept telling Le Prof that he was okay, but the inevitable happened and the Chilean star fell to a hamstring injury at the end of November against Norwich. He didn’t return until the end of January, and to be honest, he wasn’t the same player for the next few months as Arsenal tumbled away from the top of the table.

Could history be about to repeat itself with the news that Alexis has got a minor hamstring tear while in South America this week, and he is threatening to play again on Tuesday! Arsene Wenger is totally correct when he said that, without the proper treatment, it would be a “suicidal decision” for him to play next week, and it could give Alexis another long term problem. This situation for Wenger could not have come at a worst time either, with Danny Welbeck, Lucas Perez and Chuba Akpom all still out injured, and our only other centre-forward Olivier Giroud has just returned from the treatment table and is not 100% fit to play.

Our friends at Betway have been debating this very issue in their latest episode of the Betway’s “Blow the Whistle” segment, where the fans can also contribute their feelings on how this will pan out.

First, we don’t know exactly how long he will be out but I want him fully recovered before he comes back. LOVE Alexis but he can be a bit stubborn sometimes about coming back too early.

Well we need Giroud, Ox, Theo, iwobi and company to step up and compensate
It would be nice for Ozil to score more of his classy goals
Lucas was supposed to strengthen us but unfortunately he is injured too
Alexis, Lucas, Akpom and Welbeck are injured.
Sanogoals is out of the question, surely.

How many years have we been waiting for certain players to step up, it just isn’t going to happen. Alexis is our ONLY quality forward, and we’re in huge trouble without him. It was disgraceful that Wenger didn’t sign a top class forward in the summer. We’ve been begging for more quality in the final third for years, and yet he still doesn’t fully strengthen.

Hopefully Alexis will be okay or it’s just a short-term injury, but I really think we should strengthen the front line in January if possible, because we’re so reliant on Alexis.

If he is injured then we are done. Honestly, assessment is that if OG isn’t yet fit, Walcot is injury prone just a matter of time, and ox, we replaced wheelchair with well be back, it therefore means that we shall rely on midfielders. We could push Ozil to 9 and carzola to 10 and carry our heart in our hands with hope that we finish fourth.

I mean if we had Welbeck or Lucas available then we could get by but they are also injured, so if Alexis gets injured especially for a long term Our season is unofficially over.

pls dnt mention the paceless, wasteful, one-dimensional, attacking tempo killing Giroud

Alexis mustn’t play this weekend or next,if we don’t want to loose him on a long term. I suggest we play with walcot (if fit) upfront and the ox on the right wing with iwobi on the left, then second half we would sub walcot with Giroud, and Ramsey with Iwobi. My only worry is for us to take our chance/s whenever it comes because Mourinho has a point to prove and a record to preserve which he would do anything to achieve and protect.
