Arsenal do NOT need Champions League to sign big players. They just need Money!

Its all about the Money Money Money! By Galen Sona.

One of the biggest lies in football is the saying that players are moving clubs because they want to go to teams in the Champions league. Why are they not going to Russia then, or to a Turkish club in the Champions league. Jurgen Klopp has said that players would be more willing to come to Liverpool this summer because the club is in the champions league. This is what he had to say: “The players we are talking to, because they are all good players, I know they have offers from other clubs [and] maybe they play Champions League or not, or whatever.

“It’s important – how it is always important – for the club. Everybody knows it’s a lot of money in the Champions League, it’s not only the sports challenge, even though it’s really exciting, it’s also the money you can earn and as a football club we have to do this too.

Yes the Champions league is one of the best competitions in the world, but its never about the ‘The Manager’ or ‘The Champions league’. Its all all about ‘The Money Money Money!’

First lets talk about the Managers, Man City was buying Robinho from Real Madrid and was getting some of the best Arsenal players, Are you seriously going to tell me that this players were going to Man city to go and play for the legendary Mark Hughes? I don’t mean to be disrespectful to anyone, but are you telling me that they moved clubs because they wanted to to work with the legendary manager? Look at when PSG got their oil money. Players were rejecting the English clubs to go PSG to play for Antoine Kombouare who was manager at the time. Pastore, Matuidi, Motta, Makelele etc. It was not the manager. James Rodriguez and Falcao in 2013 were leaving Champion league clubs to go to Monaco, rejecting English clubs in the process.

Lets talk about the Champions League. You hear players saying it is my dream to play for this club….. What nonsense. Look at Henrikh Mkhitaryan. It was his dream to play for Dortmund, it was his dream to play for Arsenal, then he went to Manchester United and it was his dream and his grandfathers wish to play for Manchester United. Come on, I like the Latin American players cause they say it outright that they have got family to feed and its the money. They don’t tell us crap like this. Manchester United signed Pogba, Zlatan, Mkhitaryan, with no champions league, Why did these players come to Manchester United? Money! When a Fifa document revealed that Zlatan’s wages was at £367,640 a week. Come on, who needs Champions league?

Now lets talk about Alex Witsel, one of the most sought after midfielders in the world, who had agreed terms with Juventus. Wait Juventus, are they not the teams in the Champions league final? Well a team in China offered him £20 million a year in wages, he just simply apologised to Juventus and moved to China.

If we give Sanchez £250- 300,000 a week he stays at Arsenal. Is very simple. There are very few clubs in Europe that can match that. Bayern won’t as they would have to increase the wages of the other world-class players. We have just the one world-class player in our squad and he deserves it. Not Ozil. If we go for Van Dijk and Liverpool go for the very same player, they could talk about champions league all they like, but say they offer £120,000 a week and we offer £160,000 a week, the player would move to Arsenal. The reality is that we have money, we just need to be bold enough to spend it and give players like Sanchez what they deserve.

We need to identify our targets and go really hard on them. We shall not win the champions league anyways. We have been in it for 20 years. This is a fresh start. Onwards and Upwards!

  1. Agreed with the author 100%.

Since 1996-2017 we have played champions league football. How many world class player did we signed? Sanchez right.

You see, what we need is the restructuring of our wage system.

Apart from the money, the club philosophy plays a big role in attracting class players even without CL.
Man U had the philosophy of winning, to become great again.

Arsenal must also display such philosophy if we are to get world class players.

    1. Thanks Guneal. Yeah the wage structure could be changed. Some players deserve so much more, like Alexis for example. I don’t think anyone would complain if we gave him £300,000 a week. he can’t be on similar wages to players like theo or giroud , no disrespect.

  2. If you are comparing the factor of money vs champions league in players decisions, the only answers you’ll find are one or the other. This is a very poor analysis. In some cases yes, it’ll be about the money no doubt about that. But there are many factors to consider, which might overlap.
We’ll take the pogba case, yes united put money on the table because they could afford to and had to offer that to lure him. But that’s not enough. Maureen says “hey we’re building a new man united for a new generation. I want you to be one of the leaders of this team!” The money is right yes, but there must also be a belief that there is a project too.
Can we inspire top players to believe in the arsenal project? It’s a hard to say so right now. But even if we do put up the money to sign a player, what kind of player have you signed? Some footballers have different priorities, which type do you want at our club?

Secondly, the Ibra case. The final years of footballers careers they seek to maximise their earnings as much as they can. A medal is nice, but will it maintain the lifestyle for them and their family for the next 40 odd years? That’s why Costa wants to bounce.
Too simplistic to say money was the ONLY factor that made them sign.

    1. What project did Mourinho have that was greater than the already manifest project at Juventus? The arguments made in this article are factual, logical and compelling. I have made same argument for years now.

  3. Its all about the money

Which player wouldnt sign if you offer him 500k per week and 10million signing fee each to player and agent?

  4. It depends on the player. Ibrahimovic has already won everything. He is one of the most successful club players ever, and is reaching the end of his career, so why not take the money?

Young players might also go for the money, because they don’t have the huge cash reserves of older players to see them through in case they face career-ending injuries.

Genuinely top-quality players that are in their prime, however, primarily want to win trophies. So they are more likely to go to clubs where their ambitions will be matched. Otherwise why are Bayern Munich’s best players settling for around £150k/week when they could be doubling their money elsewhere? Trophies!

    1. Ibrahimovic hasn’t won everything, the two that he wanted the most, Champions League winner and Ballon D’or have evaded the big nosed tw@t.

  5. “Manchester City have made a world record €130 million (£114m) bid for Monaco teenager Kylian Mbappe, according to Telefoot.” ~ Goal.

    1. Mbappes contract runs down in 2019. Why on earth would anyone be so foolish to pay such money for him?

    2. Sounds like his agent stirring the pot.

Anyone who pays £114 million for an 18 year old with one decent season behind him has got to be totally mad.

  6. That is very true money speaks everywhere. Let players be given what they want. And in arsenal, Wenger should not use thorax 2 manage the club. He should find away of motivating players instead of frustrating them. Pay players well n they will produce good results n fight 4 trophies.

  7. For me, I completely agree. Most of these players only care about money while those that are not motivated by money are so few…yes there could be other factors but money is a major factor…

Even football itself as whole has over the years been transformed, now its about business and politics.
The players are aware of this so they wanna get as much as possible of the cake….

  8. Exactly what I’ve been saying all along. Thank you to author for putting it together. There’s no loyalty these days in football, or any other professional sports. Players are mercenaries, and it’s fine by me. They want the same thing as everyone else does, and it’s money. Nothing to be ashamed of, I just wish they were a bit more honest about it.

  9. If Arsenal can add a Mauro Icardi or Belotti and can convince Alexis to stay, we could really become fearsome.

I remember screaming for us to go and get Dybala when he was at Palermo destroying teams, he moved to Juventus for just £12.

I think Belotti is going to be more special than him soon.

    1. Belotti for me, he has everything needed to be WC hes also playing for a team that is not in the CL im sure he would jump at the chance of coming

      1. But his price looks huge. And I also read Chelsea and Man U are interested. Surely, they will be at advantage over us…

  10. No, it isn’t all about the money, sometimes it is about play time and development.

  11. The more i see of belotti the more he suit the premier league. Big strong quick direct and loves to battle. Similar to costa him and 2 more players would make us strong. a tough takling midfileder and a winger of quality

  12. It was because of Welbz we did so good. He terrorised the Chelsea defence and ok so what he didn’t score, it wa because of him we did.
We murdererd them and a lot of it was down to his prodding and probing.
He will score goals but while he has the pace to terrorise defences and let others in, I say keep him and play him!
You are just a Welbz hater…….

  13. Quite agree, I’ve never understood this myth that you can’t sign top players if you are not in the CL. You have to sell the club to the player with your ambition and ideas of your club and of course pay the wages and fee for that player….which has been the stumbling block of ours over the years….

  14. Money makes the world go round….. We have been in the champions league for over some time and nothing is achieved I think it’s better we start from the Europa league this time…. As for the transfers, every man has a price just give him his price, we don’t actually need so many players, two or three top class player; striker, cm and if we have lots of money to spend cb, then make sure Alexis and Ozil stays then we are very good to go next season

  15. Sorry, the slimy lizard person and a secret spuds fan satan kroenke won’t give the money.
I supposed Sanchez was offered a take-it-or-leave-it 180k per week. And I bet kroenke is still breathing heavily when thinking about giving THAT MUCH to a bloody footballer, as if he is some sort of a magnificent consultant of his. We CAN attract players who are willing to play for around 150 k per week, but then you have the likes of chavsky, manure and Mancity, that can easily offer 200k+ to whoever we want to sign.
The FA Cup victory is such a nice refresher. Let’s enjoy it as much as possible.
