Arsenal FA cup XI for Sutton has no Alexis, Ozil or Giroud

Well if Arsenal do end up being on the wrong end of one of the biggest upsets ever in the long history of football’s oldest cup competition then Arsene Wenger will have a lot of questions to answer over his team selection for this evening’s away tie against Sutton United.

You could say that any Arsenal side picked should be able to get past a team struggling in the bottom half of the National League and hopefully they will, but when the manager decides to leave out a lot of our best players then he is opening himself up to the fury of the Arsenal fans if they fail.

Theo Walcott is the striker chosen to lead the Arsenal attack and in a game that is likely to be quite a physical battle I am not convinced the pacy England international is the best choice. Neither Olivier Giroud or Danny Welbeck is even on the bench and neither is the under fire playmaker Mesut Ozil or two of the first choice back four Koscielny and Bellerin.

Ospina
Gabriel, Mustafi, Holding, Monreal
Elneny, Xhaka, Lucas
Reine-Adelaide, Iwobi, Walcott

Subs: Martinez, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Gibbs, Maitland-Niles, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Alexis Sanchez.

At least the boss has Alexis Sanchez and the Ox to turn to if the Gunners are in trouble but let’s hope it does not come to that eh Gooners?

  1. We should still win
    There is enough talent there
But weaker team than I thought we would have

Happy Ospina is playing. I don’t blame him for Munich
    He needs a clean sheet

    1. I know, I was shocked! But even if he plays brilliant, or scores a hat-trick, we know he’s getting benched for the next game.

  2. We will be signing shirts by halftime lol ?
To be honest, I was expecting a much weaker lineup and these boys are more than capable of wrapping this game up by halfway mark.

I’m guessing that Sanchez sneaked onto the team Bus ?
You got to give him credit for his desire ?

  3. I can’t believe that with all the injury problems Walcott has had that Wenger is starting him on this surface.

  4. OMG first ten mins and garbage. iwobi’s performance has dropped dramatically and I do not understand the role of adelaide so far. pretty slow start as usual even with this kinda opposition. AA draw will be a nail in the coffin..a defeat?

  5. do any of you arsenal fans see any deference in quality we should identify it right away all our players are none league players i blame Wenger because there are is players but when you see a quality player is first touch said every things

  6. Nice lucas!! No will you all stop moaning please. These nights are horrible, small and artificial pitch, an opponent who has no fear and up until now they’ve sat back and been organised. First chance of a break and we scored. There’s no pleasing some people!

  7. Adelaide is a fair Diaby copy cat..this players are to lanky and slow pace. iwobi needs to stand up otherwise i will prefer Lucas ahead of him from now on in the starting XI.

    1. I wish Adelaide was a carbon copy. Diaby was an extremely talented footballer, for such a tall langly dude he had great feet and was moves ahead of players where it mattered. He took big strides and passed well. He didn’t get bullied so easily, broken yes, but bullied no. He’d improve our team now if he could play each week, him and Xhaka I’d like to have seen, Cazorla then to make a midfield three. Talk about different qualities, I’d love to see that, instead of one dimensional players at minute.

  8. Sign up this deacon guy ..a tenner and a couple of toilets should seal the deal … More dangerous than either Walcott or iwobi

  9. First time I notice adelaide on the pitch was when he was booked, poor. Iwobi quiet, set pieces terrify me they’re getting used to the surface more now.

  10. Please please please mr china money bags offer something for Walcott … Anything really … What a joke can’t even look threatening against a couple of plumbers

  11. Arsenal is like watching paint dry, sadly there isn’t one player on the pitch today that would make the bench for Bayern, Madrid, PSG, etc.

This is the competition that Iwobi, El Neny, and Walcott should be playing weekly.

    In Arsene we Rust

  12. Utd worked hard to win against blackburn..and we can not trash a bunch of pie eater plumbers..1-0? with this sloppy and slow passing. for god sake, not even pace in a training game? Anyone there who can score 2 more goals and then do the side ways and backwards passing to send me to bed? PLEASEEE

    1. To be fair, Blackburn actually have a stadium ?
And Utd weren’t playing on a water logged plastic pitch either ??

    2. @vinie2000
Guess you didn’t watch the ManU-Blackburn match. ManU’s st team were struggling, till they put on Ibra and Pogba.

  13. Have to say I can’t understand why wenger puts Gabriel above holding as centre half … He is young and makes occassional schoolboy errors but he looks like a quality player to me … Composed, strong and good distributor of ball

  14. What a ? hole! ?
Half our lads looked scared to death ?
We are struggling like a three legged cat trying to burry it’s ? on a frozen pond ?

  15. if you want to know how good arsenal team is giroud is our second best player we can blame Wenger for tactics how are we trying to get the ball inthe back of the net no purpose no intent no Direction

  16. I don’t understand the purpose of singing “the greatest team the world has ever seen” song at Sutton after what happened at Bayern… I would think “Come on Arsenal” would be more suited.

  17. Anyone that’s moaning about the performance tonight,
Has Obviously never played football on a water logged plastic pitch before.?

  18. @fatboygooner. Exactly well said. They are not stupid they’ve watered the pitch to death to try and kill our game. Horrible surface to play on!

  19. 62nd-63rd minute. That’s why Ospina will never be top bracket. Don’t know how some fans can overlook something like that, should be keepers ball all day long, six yard box?. Fabianski got a torrid time along with a horribly catchy name.

    1. I would add Jack, Theo, El Neny, Ramsey, Gibbs, Sanchez, and probably Ozil to that list. Honestly Sanchez and Boss are the only players on the entire roster that can rightfully demand WC money, the rest being at best Cup players and Ozil a luxury passenger at the moment.

Watching both EPL and Cup games I’ve reached the disconcerting conclusion that the divide between the players consistently competing on both fronts is miniscule at best. A gulf in experience exists, but collectively the talent is alarmingly similar.

With Wenger @ the helm next year, does this squad have a chance at qualifying for the top 4 and CL futbol?

      Giroud
      Iwobi….Ramsey….Welbeck
      Xhaka…Carzola
      Nacho….Mustafi…Boss…Bellerin
      Cech

      In Kroenke We Die

  20. A win but not overwhelming but it’s a win. It won’t go down as a classic . With that performance I think not is all well in the camp. Players seem to be lethargic.
