Arsenal fail AGAIN in bid to add striker to squad

Schalke 04 completed the signing of Breel Embolo this summer, before boasting about beating Arsenal, among others, to his signature.

The Bundesliga side agreed a five-year deal with the Switzerland international, which was signed shortly after his country’s exit from the Euro 2016 tournament this week.

The 19 year-old is tipped as one of the highest rated young players on the continent, and was strongly linked with moves to the Premier League.

Schalke have now opted to boast about their exciting capture, claiming they beat the likes of Barcelona, Arsenal, Man United and Wolfsburg to the deal.

Unfortunately this is just the latest in a string of setbacks for Arsenal in their bid to sign a forward, with Jamie Vardy snubbing us in favour of staying with Premier League winners Leicester City, Alvaro Morata looking an unlikely capture at present among others.

Michy Batshuayi has been another striker linked with our club, but he now looks destined to be a Chelsea player for the coming campaign. I’m slowly coming round to the thinking that Romelu Lukaku could be set to stay with Everton for one more season, and we are swiftly running out of targets…

Lacazette is supposedly the latest striker to be strongly linked with a move to the Emirates, but we have been in the same speculative loop with others this window already, and I’m trying not to get overly carried away with the latest circus.

We are also linked with Santos wonderkid Gabriel Barbosa, and Japanese international Takumo Asano. The latter will most definitely leave our fans with many angry questions, while the former could bring excitement, whilst still not being the ‘big-name’ our fans have been calling out for.

How many more disappointments will there be this summer?

  1. Wenger is talking about targets now only i guess but not with any form of tangible direction from him. His priorities can change but will need to do it fast. Arsenal don’t need a superstriker but rather a player who can show consistency for long periods.

    1. You ve got problem on this blog, all you write is arsenal failed; arsenal bad; wenger poor; giroud useless; ramsey ram….I guess you need to create a fantasy football club to run on your page….rubbish

      1. Arsenal have been in this position before and like all other targets they seek to buy has been put off by price tags on them. Wenger has lost out to Higuain for 35 million who is now twice his value. This has been a repetition for long period of time so therefore it is better for him to make his mind up sooner.

  2. Embolo…. We were never in for him and I doubt Wenger was gonna get him. Judging him from his performance at the Euro’s, I don’t think he is all that.. ..then again they say you don’t really judge someone in a short time.

We must get a good striker…..no excuses

  3. Arsenal linked to Santos?
    Andre Santos coming
    back to Arsenal?
    Nooooooooooooo.
    Oh Santos youngster Barbosa.
    Phew 🙂
    Japanese Asano to Arsenal?
Arsenals Arsene signs Arsano Asunami ASP.

  4. I don’t think we were seriously in for him, we have plenty of young strikers trying to break through already. Embolo is a good striker with lots of talent although he didn’t really shine during the Euro.

Whoever we buy is going to be like Welbeck in the sense of pace for counter attacks. The most obvious target would be Lacazette now but we might get some obscure forward from God knows where who might turn into a gem. Anything is possible with Wenger

  5. walcott will score like vardy next season.
    Giroud will score like vanpersie.
Campbell.Dont even say anything he is fantastic.
So im not sure which striker you are talking about.

Oh and then there is my boy sanogo.
Watch him v liverpool bayern and dortmund youll know what im talking about

  6. How is this a fail when he was never on the manager’s radar to begin with ?? Just because a newspaper says we’re interested in a striker does NOT make it true.

    1. Schalke themselves made a big song and dance about it. They made a piece showing Arsenal crest, then Chelsea crest, and two more big teams crests before showing ..The Schalke Crest, and mentioning something or other about who is really the biggest draw. So Schalke believed all that paper talk, unless they just preyed on their own dumb fans feelings.

Lets face it, if Arsenal or Chelsea really wanted this player, we would have him already.

  7. If anyone gets annoyed by the Takumo Asano deal I really don’t think they understand how marketable Arsenal is in Japan…
The deal is supposedly 3million in which they’ll put towards their new stadium with us having the intention of loaning him back and keeping him in Japan for a few seasons.
He actually looks pretty damn talented and if he ever does wear the arsenal shirt we’ll make double his fee back in shirt sales alone. It’s about as risk-free a deal as you’re likely to find..
If Embolo has chosen Schalke it’s pretty clear he doesn’t feel ready for a big team. They’re great at developing youngsters, it will be interesting how he gets on.

  8. Let’s be honest, Schalke is a great move for the player. Almost no competition there at the moment, a club with a very good record of producing talent, and playing in the Bundesliga what isn’t too far behind the Premier League.

I think he’s too raw for Arsenal to have an immediate impact but who knows we might be in for him in the future.

  9. I don’t know if I’m in a small minority here or what – I don’t rate this kid much at all. Sure, he’s strong, and he’s fast. But that makes a player look very clumsly when being so raw. He is much too raw for my liking. When a player gets to his age, his game should be getting smoother. He should be well capable at bringing a ball under control. But this lad has too many edges still to sand off for my liking. Leads me to believe that ‘finesse’ will never be a word used to describe this kid. His goal-scoring record or abilities do not make up for what he’s lacking. Never wanted him, and glad we are not getting him. Schalke is more his speed anyhow.
