Arsenal fans happier as Welbeck scores and Ox flops for England?

I already think that a lot of Arsenal fans think we have got a pretty good deal out of the transfer of the England international Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on transfer deadline day. Even though our player has gone to a direct Premier League rival we got a good sum of money for a player in the final year of his contract and it was clear he wanted to leave.

The Ox was not even a vital player for us and of course we all hope that the same is true of him at Anfield. Judging by his performance for England away to European minnows Malta last night I reckon there is a good chance of that. Playing further forward than his recent role of wing back, Chamberlain was ineffective and arguably the worst of the three lions in a pretty poor all round game.

In a Sky Sports report the former England and Arsenal forward Alan Smith gave only Raheem Sterling a lower player rating. In contrast the Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck, who replaced our former player with 15 minutes left, looked sharp and impressive and he capped his cameo with a very well taken goal which gave the scoreline a gloss it scarcely deserved.

If Welbeck can take that sort of finishing and impact into his club football and the Ox plays anything like that for Liverpool we will all be very happy little Gooners won’t we?

Bob.

  1. Ox got a 4/10 in the paper!! Welbz got 7/10 was glad about that! I do like Welbz but sometimes in front of goal he can be like bambi on ice, apart from when he’s playing against United!

    1. I’m not deceiving myself with this.I heard Welbeck missed a big chance. Is this true??As for Ox it’s nothing new.Inconsistent is his second name. All he needs to add to his game is finishing and he’ll come good. He’s like a mini non productive Hazard.

      1. Haha not with his footing. Maybe Klopp can transform him but into a little Gerard but that will take some work xD

        1. When Liverpool get lemar, naby kieta and van dijk next season they will be what arsenal should of been! Goes to show if u have a great manager with a good owner success is inevitable! Wenger has stopped arsenal getting so many managers but the one than hurts me is klopp bcoz of his style of play! He was perfect and could brought arsenal back to the Henry days of pace and attacking football!
          Wenger out! Kroenke out!

          1. Liverpool’s window is a good team to compare Arsenal to as they finished one point ahead of us last season. So let’s have a look:
            A) Both hung on to their superstar who wanted to leave – Even
B). Liverpool sign Salah, we sign Lacazette – Too early to tell
            C) Liverpool signed Ox and Robertson, we sign Kolasnic – too early to tell
            D) Both sell one of their top centre backs (Sakho and Gabriel) and don’t replace – Even

We had similar windows but the mood around the two clubs couldn’t be different. Obviously our start is part of the reason but it’s early days. If anything, the difference in mood is a damning indictment of the way Kroenke, Gazidis and Wenger have handled this window. Sometimes perception is everything.

          2. “Goes to show if u have a great manager with a good owner success is inevitable!” Wait till they actually get success, before you sing their praises

      2. @kev you said “As for Ox it’s nothing new.Inconsistent is his second name.” But in a comment on an older post you were saying he is consistently good with crosses.
But thats nothing new, we all remember you barking “lemar done deal”
Actually, inconsistent should be your second name

    2. Chamberlain and Sterling suffer when their team didn’t do well in the first half. I reckon Chamberlain is more skillful than Welbeck, but Welbeck is more hardworking and physically stronger and taller.

Unfortunately Chamberlain has never got his chance playing in Ozil’s or Sanchez’s position, like what he always wants to. I believe he could be good there, because he is pretty skillful.

The good thing about Welbeck is he seems very determined this season. Hopefully he can help Arsenal fight with his spirit.

  2. Oh dear stooping a bit low are we now bob? We get articles about the club not being straight with us and now you are slagging off Ox undeservedly Ashe actually played quite well. Not just according to me but other pundits as well. Anyway good to see Welbz do well scoring I think 7 in last 8 games for England.

  3. Danny Welbeck’s best role is attacking midfielder , not striker !

His athleticism and strength is perfect for an AM role.

By the way , who is OX ?

    1. no welbeck is best at winger, can take people one-on-one, good pace, workhorse and knows how to defend.

AM will expose his weakness like a poor touch, lack of vision and decision making and finishing.

      1. He’s mad not going to Chelsea. He could have been a shoe in for wing-back, he’d be playing with star players every season and then title chases are very likely. Whereas Liv will always have their best players raided if they are good enough, and Liv is like Arsenal in the way that they will always play openly.

He hasn’t thought this through properly, I think he took the wage cut because he wanted to make a point that didn’t need to be made. People would understand why someone would leave us for Chelsea these days, even the most die hard of Gooner’s could openly admit as much.

If it’s about the CM position, it doesn’t say much about his team spirit. If you are all of a sudden thrice the player you were after a change of position, be happy about it, dumbo. He bought into this Steven Gerrard thing, as if, sure Gerrard played many games out on the wing and would’ve played many many more if it meant a better chance for silverware. Stevey G was a club man, Oxlade, you’re dreaming kid.

  4. An ox (plural oxen), also known as a bullock in Australia and India, is a bovine trained as a draft animal. Oxen are commonly castrated adult male cattle; castration makes the animals easier to control. Cows (adult females) or bulls (intact males) may also be used in some areas. That’s the OX I know currently.

The other OX I used to know play for Liverpool I think…

  5. Let’s not get overboard by one performance. That is what has brought us to this stage. Performance in one game by one player or the team is not important at this time. It is the poor performance over many years that we need to work on and keep working on bringing about the change.

    1. Indeed, we rarely look a well oiled machine. The FA cup we looked it, so I don’t know why we don’t adopt a similar approach more often. I blame the the fact that some of them are too casual, nonchalant. Xhaka is really starting to irritate me, like Ozil does. Xhaka seems very arrogant, good in forward players to be arrogant, but in a defensive position, a dangerous area, he needs a slap around the ear. If your big players are trying to slow the game down and be comfortable in possession, it’s gonna spread to some of the other players. And then others will be trying to play faster, pass quicker, it makes for an unbalanced look. Some of them end up getting ahead of themselves, only they shouldn’t have been, because we are best when fast. And where is Arsene’s instructions during all of this, what are our tactics, slow build up or quick and direct, no one seems to know who to look to.

  6. when welbeck plays he certainly lacks little in terms of enthusiasm and he will present a threat even if (sometimes) he miscues and unwittingly creates opportunity for a team mate. he would do well to have a sports scientist work with him at remaining composed and consistent scoring goals. #GoodShowWeblz

  7. Welbeck plays better for England than he does for Arsenal. His one of those players that do better for international than club team. He was top scorer in last euro qualifying before getting injured.

  8. Welbeck missed a sitter he also missed an easy chance against Liverpool that Lacca would have put away, well if the delusional one had played him

  9. You can’t read too much into this. Sterling is on fire for city, do you think city are bothered about this performance. Oxlade has been playing wing-back, it’s not easy to just slip into different roles like that. Welbeck could have and should have scored first in the Liv game, does this cheer us up, nope, not me. And Ozil was a demon for Germany, does this mean his Arsenal form is irrreproachable.

    1. Who cares what the ox does Liverpool are way better than arsenal, play better football, way more attractive as a club and have ambition which will show when they batter us at the emirates! Liverpool have taken over arsenal as the best footballing team in the prem and the best attacking treat to watch! Fair play to them for being ambitious and getting in klopp and letting him buy all thos young fast attacking players that track back and finish there chances just on the fact that klopp knew how good Mane was (like myself) shows what great manager he really is!
Here’s to endless failures and profit for kroenke

      1. Ive never heard many of our fans speak like that about us. We played like that not too long back, unless it wins titles, well then we must treat them with the same type of nearly-men tag we gave to ourselves. If they win the title, then yes I will congratulate them and adorn them with praise, but until then I only say that they do have the most fearsome strike force in the division. I have a sneaky suspicion that Liv are gonna find out what Arsenal fans realized years ago, that top four is not an achievement to brag about, and that the art of defending cannot be underestimated.

      2. Not really ! Liverpool had a draw with Watford and Won in a tight match against Crystal Palace 1 – 0.

The way they played in those 2 games suggests they are still not a contender for the title ! you shouldn’t judge them based on their game against Arsenal , any premier league team would have won that game against THAT Arsenal team !

Also their attacking threat is not even comparable to Chelsea or Man City’s attacking threat.

  10. I think Wellbeck could make a superb wingback

For me he’ll never be a natural goal scorer – but his industry, and work ethic are great

It would also give us the option of putting Sead in midfield – which could work
