Arsenal form and Monaco injuries suggest GUNNERS GOALS!!

I am sure that all the Arsenal fans have all been made well aware of the excellent record, especially in defence, that our Champions League opponents Monaco will be bringing to north London on Wednesday. Just once conceded from their six group games and just one from their last 11 games in all competitions is worrying for us.

But there are a few reasons for us to feel reasonably confident that the clash on Wednesday will not be a tense and nervous war of attrition and that there is a good chance of seeing some goals flying in for Arsenal. First of all, A Daily Star report has revealed that the French League 1 club are suffering from a bit of an injury crisis, with real doubts over the availability of six first team players. And among them are some key defenders like Carvalho, Kurzawa and Raggi.

The other side of the equation is of course our own creative and attacking options which are numerous and impressive, with the likes of Ozil, Giroud, Alexis, Cazorla, Welbeck and Walcott all in good form. Even with their strongest defence, Monaco would find it difficult to hold Arsenal, especially in front of our own fans at the Emirates. So far this season the Gunners have scored at home in every game in all competitions. The last team to stop us doing so was Bayern Munich over a year ago, when we were in poor form.

And assuming Arsenal continue our recent run and score a goal within 30 minutes for the 10th game in a row, they will have to try to attack us and that should lead to more. So is MonacoΒ΄s defensive record set to take a sudden turn for the worse?

    1. we keep focusing so much on our opponent’s injury state and they keep performing almost even better than with all em players available…… Need i give examples?

      1. Um, NOTICE TO EVERYONE…

Thing is I don’t do beef anymore, OK??? Yeah, I’m now a full time veg.

Met this church chick, asked her out and she gave me one condition… Please don’t ask what.

So, no beefs, ok??? Brand new me!!! I swear!!!

        1. Seriously, we got beat up by Tottenham and barely beat CP. we need possession and movement forward. If we start sitting back. Game over

  1. When’s the last time we destroyed a half decent team in the Champions League? We need to get our fear factor back asap.

  2. With or without injuries,Arsenal should beat Monaco over two legs.
It’s nt like we are against Real Madrid.
I would want to face a fully fit Monaco side.

  3. That’s great news and all but….. Since when do we rely on other team to get injuries to win a game? We should be confident going into this game with the quality we possess and the talent we have πŸ™‚

  4. Monaco is known for a good defense. They only conceded 1 goal in the group stage. They have Carvalho, Fabinho, Kurzawa (at one point he was linked to us) and an excellent defensive midfielder called Kondogbia.

the news that Carvalho and Kurzawa are injured
will definitely help us to score. However, I implore Arsenal to:
    1. not to take them for granted.
    2. Put our best 11 on the field
    3. Keep motivation high
    4. Players should play their butts off
    5. Don’t lose momentum in the second half
    6. Because this is 1st of two legs and a home game try and score as many goals as possible (obviously not recklessly). Don’t get a 1 goal lead, be happy with it and defend For remainder of match. I would love to go into Monaco with a 3+ goal lead. LoL

Another thing is even though they have Moutinho and Berbatov who can be dangerous, Generally Monaco doesn’t score a lot of goals. So we should take advantage of that and defend the best we can. Don’t want them to score an away goal.

I feel very positive about this match

I predict 2-0 to us (but hope we score more)

    1. they also have Toulalan who is suspended for the first leg. Big boost that they are missing him and will have an unfamiliar back 4.

  5. Completly off topic but have just finished reading david beckhams autobiography althoigh not english and obviously not a united fan i would still recommend getting it great read from a legend of the game

  6. Please correct me if I read this wrong in the article, but in what world is Theo “in form”? I’ve got to believe that if Theo was truly in form he’d be playing over Welbeck right now. Had the field not been completely unstable on Saturday, I’d like to believe that Theo would’ve gotten a run out. But if we’re being honest, since he’s been back he’s been relatively anonymous as far as being involved in the build up is concerned, and his finishing hasn’t been what we’ve come to expect from him. I hope he improves in a hurry, as we’re going to need him if we’re going to be successful. Speculation, but I fear that his confidence may be lacking as he doesn’t have the technical ability that Alexis or even the OX possess on the wing. (For me, Alexis’s close dribbling control has forced everyone to reevaluate their own true technical ability on the ball)

I’m glad to see Mesut buzzing around with with confidence, and playing the penetrating passes that we need. The second goal came from a goal kick that Giroud brought down, Mesut got underneath the 2nd ball, and with some quick interplay between the two, Mesut then made his man miss, found Alexis who then found Welbz, etc. In order for us to be successful we need are extremely technical players playing well and combining.

I think the surface saturday is one of the main reasons we couldn’t get a rhythm and keep the ball, and i’m glad we escaped with all 3 points. We need Electrical Sanchez to start scoring again, as his miss that would’ve made it 3-0 was big. Love the way Mesut ran right at that last defender to set that play up.

Hoping for a big result Wednesday.

    1. Theo has 3 goals after only being back for a month, which I think is great even if he missed a few easy chances as well. You can’t expect him to immediately be back in form after being out for a year. I think Wenger is just being cautious with him and doesnt want to use him every single game. If Theo were playing every game and then got injured we would be complaining about that. Welbeck has overall done okay on the wings, but Theo brings goals and I think thts why Theo will start Wednesday.

And yeah, I agree the surface was absolutely horrible this weekend, so I’m glad we overcame it and grinded out the win. And glad I’m not the only one who noticed Giroud initially created his goal by bringing the ball down for Ozil. Both did a good job this weekend.

      1. RSH i don’t disagree, and was in no way trying to slate Theo. I was more disagreeing with the Authors belief that Theo was in form. I believe we need to be realistic with the form of our players. I in fact in think Alexis is pressing a bit right now as he’s not had the same goal impact as of late that he had in the beginning. I think he’ll get back there though.

I also agree and believe that we need to keep theo healthy and ease him back in, that way he can stay healthy and build back up to the player we need him to be. Fortunately we have the squad that supports not needing to rush him back.

        1. okay, I see it now. I was just saying why Welbeck currently starts over Theo. And yes, loving that we don’t have to rush anyone back. Besides for the Arteta & Debuchy who are long term injuries, Ramsey is now the only player injured.

  7. We are winning thz season’s ucl! am nt worried on whichever opponent we get…my worry is on the big contract extension wenger wl get after that πŸ™ πŸ™ πŸ™

        1. ha i’m more sad that we know he won’t come back. he’s 65 and by the time his contract runs, he’ll be 67. IF he did another year, i think it would only be because they weren’t able to secure the future of a vetted out managerial candidate that the club, and wenger, are confident in securing arsenal’s future.
