Arsenal in talks to sign 31-goal striker in £25M deal

Arsenal are said to be in talks with Sporting Lisbon over a deal to sign Islam Slimani this summer.

The Algerian striker scored an impressive 27 league goals last season, as well as another four in other competitions, and has been on the radar of the North-London club for some time now.

A deal was claimed to be in the pipeline back in June, but nothing concrete followed, but the story has taken some more turns since.

Last week, Slimani was reported to have handed in a transfer request to his club, as he looked to try and secure a move to a bigger club. Within a week of such a report, Joel Campbell has had a deal agreed to join the Portuguese Primeira side until the end of the season. As us here at JustArsenal.com predicted, the two stories would be linked somehow.

We are believed to be looking to pay around £25 Million, while Sporting are asking for £30 Million, which will be a worry for us fans who have heard this story one too many times already.

The Gunners striker chase had appeared to have been struggling during this window, with Jamie Vardy snubbing a move from last year’s Premier League champs Leicester, while the asking price for Alexandre Lacazette seems to be rising by the day.

Arsenal fans have been driving themselves crazy in wait for another option to arrive to play up top, with Alexis Sanchez having been used unsuccessfully in the role in both of our side’s opening two league outings.

Is the Portuguese league strong enough to convince us that Slimani goals could translate to the English game? Is Slimani a big enough name to excite you as our new striker?

  1. I’m hearing we are going to hijack everton to the signing of Lucas Perez, has 17 goals and 10 assists in last season in La Liga with Deportivo la Coruna, It would be a decent signing if you ask me.

    1. Cheap buyout clause as well. If we can wrap that deal up, gives us a great rotation/option at striker it may just loosen the purse strings on Mustafi a tiny bit to get it over the line…

      1. talking of a buyout clause? Wenger is already salivating searching his old drawer at home looking for one of his 1999 1 Pound ready to test them the way he did Liverpool

  2. Arsenal are close to signing Lucas Perez who plays for Deportiva.Everton were in pole position to sign him but now the deal has been hijacked and Arsenal are set to sigm him.He scoted 17 goals and 8 assists in 36 matches last season.

  3. Barcelona also targeted Lucas Perez and Kevin Gameiro some weeks ago so that’s surely a positive to those who don’t really know. Now what we just need is a world class defender or one with quality to be world class then maybe a last minute move for a top somenone. This would be a great step.

    1. Manolas looks quality but may be too costly ! and 2 years ago we were not willing to pay 12M for him 🙂

  4. Slimani or Perez it really does not matter both are good goal scorers, good pace, good finishers and works hard for the team, my preference would be Perez a good replacement for welbeck, but a lot more technical and a better finisher.

Really strange he does not have more suitors, hoping we can wrap up one of these forwards quickly, without anymore stress on s the fans.

On another note, was just noting a pretty good defender dragovic not sure of the spelling went on to join the BL of germany strange that no other club battled for him

  5. This Perez deal looks to have legs, scored some decent goals last season ! Obviously we all want the lewandowski of this world but a Perez xhaka mustafi window wouldn’t be to bad at all . Koscielny was no1 at 25 although cazorla had played for Spain no1 new who he was when he signed .could be a gem ??

  6. Perez is a fighter, good work rate and he is also cheap. Toprak from Leverkusen could be heading to London this season. Both will be a good and needed signing for Arsenal. Mature and experience. if they close this deal, id be happy with wenger, bettee tjan spending 95mil on both Mahrez and Mustafi which is crazy fees

  7. Are you telling me you people actually believe that Arsenal are going to sign more players in this transer window?

We are always linked to every Jonny come cheaply yet nothing ever happens. What makes you think somethings gonna happen now?

    1. I think Wenger and the board is no fool. Regardless of how much they hate spending their cash, but they are not stupid.
