Arsenal injury curse strikes Gabriel already

We were all over the moon when Arsene Wenger finally fixed Arsenal’s lack of defensive options by buying Gabriel in January, but it now seems that we are back to square one for the next few weeks. Everyone at JustArsenal thought that Gabriel would start alongside Koscielny for last night’s game against QPR, but it was the surprise pairing with Mertesacker that were in the First XI on only the Brazilian’s second start for the Gunners.

But poor Gabriel only lasted for just over half an hour before Wenger had to cut Koscielny’s rest short as the Brazilian went down with a hamstring injury and will now miss Monday’s FA Cup game against Manchester United. Wenger said after the game: “It’s a hamstring. I don’t know, it’s bad enough to come off. It’s usually 21 days, not years!”

Wenger says “Usually 21 days” but we have known his predictions to be wildly wrong before so we will have to wait and see on that. Even if it IS just three weeks, Gabriel will also miss the return Champions League leg at Monaco, plus League games against West Ham and Newcastle. These games are crucial to our season and we now have to hope that Koscielny’s Achilles will stand up to the pressure in the upcoming games.

Nacho Monreal also missed yesterday’s game with a back strain but will hopefully be available to cover soon in case of further problems, but Matthieu Debuchy is not expected back for a couple of weeks at least. Calum Chambers was on the bench last night and could be used in an emergency.

Fingers crossed everyone!

  1. Just when we fans started dreaming of glory days of no more defensive woes then this happens, so hold up what happened to these fine excellent German physicians we supposedly have inherited. Why are there still injuries or should we move back to highbury

  2. this is bad .
mertesacker vs man united,he needs to prove alot of people wrong
this is our only shot at a trophy this season,

has now become our biggest game of the season so far.

      1. didnt even think about that…
i suppose if ever there was a time for him to show people these games are it.
sure he has it in him, hes been here before, heres hoping

        1. @muffdiver
I think Mert know what he gotta do. Since Gabe is crocked, Mert better use this time to keep his spot. It’s up to him.

        2. thought the rhino days were over………this is exactly what happens when a workaholic defender tries to cover for himself and a rhino-like partner……..

  3. Why so many injury, Gabriell only play one times!?? I want to see Gabriel and Kocnielny. Not Pear Mertsacker, too slow and scared to block shot!!!

  4. Monday should be interesting us or man utd are not playing that great at the moment. Let’s get one over the mancs this time COYG

  5. I can’t believe that Mertesacker came in straightaway and Gab was moved to the left central spot. Surely he and Kos needed games together to get used to their partnership. Now of course we are back having to watch Mert not being able to keep up with the play. If Kos wasn’t fit why was he on the bench? We desperately need another C.B. I now fear the worst for the upcoming games.

  6. I thought that the BFG had his best game for us in a long time.I am normally quick to criticise the guy but respect to the guy he was excellent last night.I also hope Gabriel has a quick return back to the squad he has a lot to learn about the premier league

  7. OT: is there any chance that they reduced some of BELLERIN’s age and add it to Rosicky?? Because tomas is playing like he’s 25 and so does bellerin…LOL
ON T: Get Well soon GabREAL, that’s how ooooospina started anyway, and look at him now. #COYG

  8. to that dude with the first comment about our German physios and how we shouldn’t expect any injuries again…. Yeah ryt! after all it’s just a sport where 22players take to the pitch and sleep for 90mins and someone scores d board by their snoring after 90mins!

  9. Man United are reported to be winning ugly and grinding results even at the death. I had predicted that points will be dropped at Saint James’ Park, Bolyne ground and at the Etihad. But no points were dropped there to give the Gunners any advantage. Never mind, points are still going to be dropped later to immensely give the Gunners the desired advantage. With this latest injury to Gunner De Abreu, The Red Devils will be feeling confident they will find a way round the Gunners’ defense line to score. Rhinosacker is a proven shot dodger and a proven headed ball ducker. In our next 2 away games against Man U and Monaco FC, I will suggest the boss starts Monreal or Chambers and Koscielny at CB for those particular 2 top games. Rhino’ can start those games as a joint 2 CDMs with Coquelin. He Rhino’ can start our home game against West Ham. These are my thoughts for the boss to think over them.

  10. thought the rhino days were over……..injuries are exactly what happens when a workaholic defender tries to cover for himself and a rhino-like partner……..

  11. hahahah somebody just mentioner Per Mertasacker to play as our CDM, against manure and Monaco, *iDie* Lol

  12. Like i have always said, if we want to solve our defensive backline problems for good we need to get rid of Mertasacker. He is too slow and leaves us vulnerable during counter-attacks. To solve this problem permanently and in the long term we need to dip our hands into our pocket and get Varane from R.Madrid. It will cost an arm and a leg but it will be worth it. That move will solve our defensive issues permanently and in the long term.
