Arsenal lodge bid to sign coveted €18M wonderkid striker

Arsenal have launched a bid to sign Gabriel Barbosa from Santos this summer.

The 19 year-old is tipped to become the biggest star to come out of Brazil since Barcelona’s Neymar, and is supposedly keen on a switch to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Arsenal are now claimed to have made an offer to sign the individual, and face competition from Fiorentina and China in order to complete the deal.

Barbosa, nicknamed Gabigol, has an €18 Million release clause in his current deal, which is believed to have been triggered by all parties. This gets complicated however, with the player owning 40% of his rights, while a third-party company also own a further 20%, and Arsenal could only follow through with the deal if they attain the total 100% of his ownership.

The Brazilian report claimed that the UK’s recent Brexit could put the breaks on his supposed move, but signings from outside of Europe should be unaffected.

Gabigol has scored 54 goals for club since making his Santos debut as a 16 year-old in May 2013, and has already scored two senior goals for Brazil, having played out around 170 minutes of international football.

Barbosa could prove to be a huge signing in years to come, but I believe that Arsenal fans would reserve judgement on a player they know little about, and would still most likely demand a top striker/forward to be signed this summer also.

Theo Walcott has also been linked with a potential exit this summer, but with Arsene Wenger revealing he wants only two more signings after Granit Xhaka’s signing, two forwards would seemingly rule out a defensive signing.

How many of you believe Barbosa could be the striker we have been looking for? He sounds more like the type of Wenger signing we are used…

He is only wanted by Fiorentina and China?

Seems like he is a bit overrated something English fans do with England players, and today you saw that England are way way overrated as they always are.

Next world cup these same players will have become part of another so called ‘golden generation’ and again they will fail.

Even the English players themselves think they are so good. What an embarrassment even most of the English fans are embarrassing, getting drunk, fighting, chucking coins at children, they are a disgrace.

Then the 18m Euro can’t get him if he is tipped to be a big star. Get him before final exit as England is exiting on all fronts.
Vardy, we don’t need you. You are a local champion.

Unless some club comes in with a big offer for Walcott,
he will still be an Arsenal player next season.
Apparently, Wenger wants to give him one last chance.

    No we don’t need
    We have Sanogo
    and Lord Bendtner is
    back training with Arsenal.
    Sanogo Bendtner Walcott Wellbeck
will tear the EPL a new one this season,

Davidnz, seems like your ironic comment was completely mis-understood by the thumbs down. Unless of course they actually believe that a strike force of walcott, sanogo, bentdner and welbeck would terrify our opponents.

if there is any truth to this, then I hope we seal this deal ASAP!

I thought we were after the other Gabriel -Gabriel Jesus. However, Gabigol looks to me to be a wonderful prospect for the now and later. If he’s got a goal-scorer’s instinct, then we definitely need him.

As i mentioned on another post I watched Barbosa play in the Copa America and if it was upto me I would sign the other Gabriel(Jesus).Gabriel Jesus is an extremely accomplished player for his age and among the two I personally think he could be the next big thing like CR7,Messi,Neymar.He is primarily a winger though.

Haha as an FM manager I had Chuba Akpom bang in a 35 goal season in his third season… So maybe we shouldn’t sign anyone at all that could possibly hinder his development??
Although… Maitland-Niles and JRA did supply the majority of his goals… What’s Wenger doing having them sit in reserves or on loan!!!!

I think it’s only logical to go snap up the best prospects in SA. I can only see the striker situation getting worse, look around, the youngsters do not look like they are gonna be all that special. You might find a few that look interesting. S America has a big responsibility, top clubs will rely on some real;ly special players arriving from there. I would love us to get this Barbosa kid, for 18m he is gonna be much more talented than an 18m English kid. Looked up his clips as am sure all did, and boy he did not disappoint. An eye for goal too, at 19 he is showing off. You don’t get picked for the Brazil team at 19 years of age unless a bit special, especially forwards. We should get this deal done, pay off everyone who needs to be payed off and just get it done.
