Arsenal MUST beat Aston Villa to keep Spurs at bay

Arsenal face a home tie against lowly Aston Villa on Sunday, and this is he sort of game that the Gunners cannot afford to drop points in as the race for the Top Four hots up. Man United, who currently hold the coveted Fourth place are nearly guaranteed three points on Saturday in their match against bottom club Leicester, while our local rivals Tottenham have a harder game away at West Brom, but if both of them win we will be back down to sixth ahead of our game on Sunday afternoon.

Christian Eriksen and Harry Kane are on fire for the Spuds and both scored again as Tottenham won through to the League Cup Final in midweek, so we have every reason to worry about the threat to the Wenger trophy from Mauricio Pochettino`s side. It is imperative that we move back above Spurs before we hike across London to White Hart Lane next Saturday morning.

Villa may lie just three points above the relegation places but Arsenal fans wll certainly not forget their last visit to the Emirates where they beat us 3-1 on the opening day of the last campaign, so we have no reason to be complacent, especially as are likely to be without our Mr. Duracell (Alexis) in attack. Thankfully we now have an in-form Olivier Giroud and Santi Cazorla, and the returning stars of Walcott and Ozil back in contention to fill the gaps.

Considering we beat Villa 3-0 in the away fixture we should have far too much firepower for them back at the Emirates, but with one eye on the Spurs game next week we need to gain even more confidence with a clear win on Sunday….

  1. Sports channels seem to like the Arse playing on a Sunday.Either where good entertainment value or as I suspect we used to come a tumble playing on a sunday but as of late we’ve been quite successful. Keep up the good work you glorious gooners.

    1. What a stupid article to say we must beat Villa, every game now is to win at least 6 to stay on target to be 3rd. Plus FA cup, plus Semi final Champs Lge then a great year and Premior winners next year I will be very happy with that. CB

      1. @Luko Bratzi
couldn’t agree more….if we don’t expect to get 3 points against Aston Villa, then wat are our expectations against the top 4…

  2. Man U almost guaranteed 3points against leicester?? Are you kidding me?? Leicester scored 5 goals in their first leg against same Man U. So watch out.

  3. Its high time to unleash theo14, hope Alexis make it still. Aston Villa 1st leg was my favorite game of the season after city, it was our most fluent game. Let’s repeat it #COYG

  4. I am more concerned about a Liverpool with a returning Sturridge. Leceister won in the FA cup and Man U’s form has been woefull. Leceister might also draw on their thrashing of Man U in the previous game between the two sides. So I wouldn’t put it past Leceister to do us a favour by squeaking out a draw.

But yes, 3 points against the Villains is a must.

  5. The article is not well researched. For starters only Erikson scored for the Tots mid week. Every game in the EPL is uncertain so there is no point in giving the impression that such and such team will win so we should also win our game. Any serious team has to focus on its game first and reflect on other results later.

    1. Yeah win these kind of games.
      WBA can beat Spurs.
      Just can’t see Spurs lasting.
I think Arsenal will get 3rd.
Utd and Sotn battle for 4-5
      Spurs +Ham battle for 6-7

  6. “Arsenal MUST beat Aston Villa to keep themselves in the hunt for trophies or top 4 in the EPL” the title should have read. Every game is a must win from now on if we are to make anything out of this season.

I understand its easier said than done, but if we keep the discipline, team work, and winning mentality we have shown in the last 4 or so games we could achieve anything. Our opponents are not getting weaker and us relaying on other teams or the universe for other teams to beat our opponents is a bad bet. Focus on our games and kill off any team that comes our way, the rest will fall in place.

Arsenal vs A. Villa must win game
    Arsenal vs. Spurs must win
Arsenal vs. Man U, Chelsea, Barca, Madrid, Manaco or QPR is a must win.

All games are crucial. We usually crumble in February, well not this time lads. COYG

  7. We need to play our game and stop looking at other teams. The next opponent is the only team we should be looking at so we can make tactical decisions. Alexis being out sucks but I think we’ve got more then enough alternatives. Theo would be my pick with Ozil as a replacement. Alternatively stick Thomas in there and use him for 70 mins running his socks off for the badge.

  8. Wtf? Spurs? There’s 4 teams AHEAD of us, I think we should have our eyes forward and not worry about who’s behind us. Only time you turn to see what’s behind is when nobody is in front.

  9. i disagree i wouldn,t risk rosicky against villa,we need him for the spuds game he.s always great against them!!

  10. We must stop focusing on teams behind us and just win every game. Simple. The others will slip up and we must be right there or higher than them when they do. COYG!!!

  11. Last time we beat Villa, Ozil was CAM.

So whether Cazorla or Ozil is playing, It would be best to put them in the CAM position. Not on the right/left.

We have Walcott, Welbeck, Akpom and Ozil if Cazorla is CAM (although I don’t like Ozil on left) for those positions.

Ospina, Coquelin, Giroud should retain their positions

Defense should be Gibbs, Koscielny, Mertsacker, Bellerin
