Arsenal MUST use Chambers to cover Koscielny injury blow!!

Arsenal seem to be operating under Murphy’s Law at the moment, which states that anything that can go wrong, will go wrong. And with the defensive side of the Arsenal squad being the weakest right now, of course that means that Laurent Koscielny has now added even further to the problems, as reported by Sky Sports.

Arsene Wenger has revealed in his latest injury update, that the France international centre back will not be back in contention for the Gunners before the next international break. So if we are lucky (Hah!) then he will return to the squad for the home clash with Man United on November 22nd, which would be pretty handy.

However, before that the Gunners have games against Sunderland, Burnley, Anderlecht and Swansea City to deal with. Not too bad a run of fixtures I suppose but we still need our strongest possible defence and that surely means bringing Calum Chambers into the middle to partner Per Mertesacker.

Nacho Monreal is not a central defender, he does not feel comfortable there and this is no time for him to start learning the job. Having Chambers in the middle makes us more solid and should give our BFG more confidence in the player alongside him and help him to play better.

And it gives our young Spanish right back Hector Bellerin some more vital experience and playing time. Surely this move is a no brainer, Gooners, don’t you think?

  1. Giroud, Gnabry, Ozil, Diaby, Koscielny, Debuchy, Ospina

I need 5 more players to complete my Injured Eleven.

  2. Chambers is much better as CB than RB anyway. But I am ready to bet that Wenger will play Monreal as CB and Chambers as RB.

    1. Also jack is suspended to I hope to see ox play on the wing and Santi in the middle or put Campbell on the wing with ox in the middle and drop Santi who has been poor in the last two games

  3. I was very surprised when I saw Anderlecht team sheet. I would’ve picked Bellerin-Chambers-Mertesacker-Gibbs. Same for the Hull game. I feel like Bellerin should definitely start vs Sunderland, because Monreal has been atrocious for the past two games and we really can’t afford to drop any more points due to his sloppy positioning. Chambers has alot more to offer at centre back too, why not take the opportunity to give him more experience there so he can replace Mert in a year or two.

    1. Monreal was very solid every game he played. Trouble is that he is not tall enough for a CB in EPL. He is not to be blamed for any of the goals we conceded this season.

      1. I agree he was solid, but only in his LB-games. I’m talking about the centre position, he has a drift to float out wide once Gibbs gets caught out too far up the pitch, leaving Mert and the right back to cover 3 opponents. Monreal is a great player to have in the squad, but he is a poor solution for our centre back problem, which shouldn’t have been as much of a problem in the first place if Wenger bought a defensive minded player as he promised throughout the summer window.

        1. If you look at the game against Anderlecht the goal came with Mertesacker next to the one crossing. Yes, Mertesacker was on the left leaving Flamini to fill the gap he left. Monreal left Gibbs to track and he kept his CB position for an eventual short cross.
Other than that, I agree. Monreal must be used as CB only as a last resort. But that doesn’t mean he’s not a disciplined defender these days.

  4. Back four in the absence of Debuchy and Koscielny:

    Bellerin Mert Chambers Gibbs

    Defensive options on the bench:

    Monreal, Hayden, Coquelin

It’s not ideal but the best we can do, we really shouldn’t have sent Jenkinson out on loan without a replacement centre back seeing as we brought Chambers in as a right back initially. For some reason since Hayden played a blinder in the league cup loss to Southampton, he hasn’t featured in the squad at all which baffles me seeing as we have a defensive injury crisis.

  5. Sorry but after watching Chambers playing as a RB for the last games I don’t think he is a good one, he just seems so uncomfortable there, he just does not seem to be able to read the game, he is just a reactive RB as supposed to a proactive one. He just gives away needless fouls and free kicks… The amount of needless yellow cards he has accumulated so far tell you the whole story.

I think he is good and will be a very solid player, he is hardly bullied off the ball..

    1. He’s too slow for a RB. He fouls too often when players get past him. He always passes backwards or sideways rather than taking on the opposing player. Bellerin is far better on the right.

  6. How about call West Ham the team that’s winning game and get out right back from then. He is the best we have strong the will to win just like the OX IPOD jack Rambo. For the love of God if we don’t piss 3 points tomoz then our 65 year old manager can run and jump. Can’t keep doing this shit week in week out

  7. Monreal remind me of Joleon Lescott, they never look comfortable when the ball comes to them.. They just seem to be in panic mode all the time the ball comes anywhere close to them.. They always panic and instead of being composed and header the ball away, they mistime their jumps and always end up doing weak header that loop or just drop 3 yard away..

    smh.. lol

  8. Welcome the stadium of light. Here comes the Aserne Circus to a theater near you this very Saturday. Come small come big come all, as you might get first hand info on how to look clueless when you mix 4-1-4-1 formation with a bungled team sheet. It will be a thriller I tell you and full of suspense as you ‘might’ catch the mighty-prof himself engage in a wrestling match on the touch line. Or are we going to see the familiar clowning combo of Jack & Ramsey partnering in the middle to top up the cherry? NB:(Not for the faint hearted).

  9. I’m sorry, I really do respect the history and stability he’s created for arsenal fc as a brand

but how the fk does arsene get away with having 6 senior defenders and then loaning jenkinson? he earns 8million pounds a year to play fifa with arsenal interactively, I take that back I think u can actually get fired when underperforming in fifa, so arsene is basically playing sims with millions of pounds, I salute arsene, how does an individual run a billion dollar empire so unbelievably poorly without anyone 2 answer

we ONLY had SIX defenders, one of which was chronically injury prone (gibbs) and the other unbelievably poor (monreal) whilst out of the 2 new recruits, 1 was an actual proven quality defender, so we basically had 3 we could rely on and one we had to pray would be fit whilst we (thankfully to arsenes credit) uncovered a gem in chambers, so we decided with our injury record to enter the new season with ONE full backline and no backups, so what the plan was gibbs was gonna last 40 games this season? If I was arsene I’d be laughing all the way to the bank, I’m not going to even touch on the arteta/flamini and DM debacle, I think I’ll spare everyone the frustration

  10. I am really tired of hearing about our defense predicament , the Ridiculous manager should look at this time for Mert and Chambers to develop some understanding of how to play together since Kos is out, i kept thinking of Hayden but still not have heard a word from the manager, on whether he is injured or not, to me he looks quite capable of playing DM and CB.

Our ridiculous manager should realise Monreal although doing a fair job is not Sagna, who is good in the air and quick on the ground, so this experiment must stop> Monreal has basically admitted that he is uncomfortable in that position, so why force this position on a player who has stated he is uncomfortable there, when we have a healthy chambers who has already have several games in that position and looks even more comfortable than at right back.

Monreal only should be used in a emergency situations
