Arsenal need to forget the emotions and just win the game

Arsene Wenger is entering a crucial week in his efforts to leave Arsenal on a high, and we have the daunting task of two games against Atletico Madrid with a small visit to Old Trafford in between. Wenger has challenged his players to win every game from now to the end of the season, and the players have poured out their hearts and said they will do their utmost to give the boss a great send off.

But now they need to forget all that and go out on the pitch and do the job, as Aaron Ramsey said: “It’s a massive motivation, to put the emotional side to one side and use it to go on and win this trophy for him.

“It’s going to be weird next season when he’s not here but for now he is, and we have to finish the season off as strongly as possible. You’ve seen with the amount of fans that turned up on Sunday, and the noise they produced when they got right behind the team, and hopefully they can give him the send-off he deserves.

“We all sort of knew that one day he was always going to step down as manager, and that day has come and it was a massive shock to the team.

“But we have to put those emotions behind us and use it as motivation as well to finish off the season strongly, and hopefully we can lift something for him and let the other emotions come in after that when the season is finished. Then we’ll go from there.”

As has been pointed out earlier if they had tried their hardest in other games, maybe Wenger wouldn’t be in this position right now, but Danny Welbeck also thinks that they should want to win the competition whatever the situation is with Wenger. He was asked if the lads were setting out to do it for the Boss. “Yeah.” he said. “Going into a semi-final in a European competition, you don’t need any extra incentive to win the game. I wanted to win the game before the manager announced he would be leaving, and I want to win it after. With the lads, everyone’s focused on winning the tie but obviously at the end of the competition, there would be that icing on the cake to see the manager lift the trophy.”

So let’s forget all the wenger-talk for the 90 minutes of tonight’s game and just encourage the players to go out on the pitch and play their very best and give the fans something to cheer about for a change…

  1. It goes without saying a good start is key. Arsenal is so notorious for bad starts.

Once we allow Athletico to settle and dictate the tempo of the game we are done for. Our players need to keep calm and take there chances, to think Diego Costa has been a pain to us in the past, Athletico has 11 Diego’s on the pitch plus on the bench including their manager so any gutless performance and the boys will be saying goodbye to daddy Wenger with another whooping in Europe.

Score early, control the tempo of the game, no stupid mistakes at the back, do not concede! And the fans will do the rest and bring the house down for a change.

    1. Ideally Arsenal score the first goal, but it all depends on the players’ motivations now

The lazy and the hardworking players would show their true colors tonight

  2. Depends. If Iwobi starts then might as well write this one off. If he doesn’t then we have a chance.

    1. As both Mkhitaryan and Aubameyang are out it is certain either of Iwobi or Wilshere will start. Probably Iwobi..unless Ozil plays right wing and Wilshere number 10. I don’t know which is worse ..Iwobi on the wing or Wilshere through the center.

    2. Why does everybody keep slating Iwobi? The kid’s form is not fantastic, but I suspect it is because of Wenger’s and his staffs’ bad trainings

Remember, he was fantastic when he played for the first team in his several early matches. He also made great assists to Welbeck recently

A new manager could make him back on track. Talented youngsters like Iwobi need constructive/ positive criticisms, not destructive/ negative criticisms

      1. Did you see the West Ham game? That kind of wackness cannot be coached out of a player.

Although I did have a vision yesterday that Klopp would buy him for £30m. My visions always come true. I had a vision in 1978 that Ether would happen and I wasn’t even born then!!!!

        1. It would actually have been better to play with 10 players than have him on the pitch. Our worst player by far this season.

  3. I don’t think we have a chance against sharp and aggressive A.madrid fears another huge defeat in Europe

  4. If Arsenal win is that an extra place for an English team or does 4th place in premier league not qualify.. ie Spurs ?!?

  5. Athletico will make the CL
    via La Liga.
    Salzburg is already qualified
by dint of their winning the Austrian League.
    Marseille is 3rd = in League 1.
Arsenal is the only semi finalist who can’t qualify via the League.
Arsenal has the highest UEFA coefficient in the Europa so should win.

      1. In fact, just to clear things up, Atletico Madrid at number 3 have a higher UEFA coefficient than Barcelona and Juventus. So that’s the kind of team we will be trying to breakdown tonight.

  6. Forget emotions, I just hope our players remember how to defend for once! Just for a change, can we not throw the tie away in the first leg? Wenger always forgets there’s a 2nd leg, so I hope someone has reminded him this time.
