Arsenal player ratings for Hull draw – Elneny MOTM

If Arsenal had managed to score the goal we needed to avoid the FA cup replay with Hull City, then the player who scored it would have got my Man of the Match. All three of the starting forwards looked sharp and could jave won it but the Hull keeper played a blinder and as our defenders were rarely tested I have gone for the impressive Mohamed Elneny who hardly put a foot wrong.

Ospina 5.5 – Not much to do but seems to be lacking confidence.

Chambers 6.5 – Got into good areas and joined in attacks while staying solid at the back.

Mertesacker 6 – Could have played in slippers.

Koscielny 6 – strong game but could have put us in big trouble with late tackle after being booked.

Gibbs 6 – Solid but struggled to influence the game.

Flamini 6 – Worked hard and tried to get forward without much success.

Elneny 7.5 – Looks a class act. Great energy and defensive awareness with crisp passing.

Iwobi 7 – Moves broke down at times against resolute defence but continues to impress and looks good for the future.

Campbell 7 – Generally good play and great free kick but we needed a bit more.

Welbeck 7 – Looked sharp and a threat in first start for 10 months.

Walcott 7 – Good movement and link up but just lacked a finish.

subs:
Giroud 6.5 – Strong and determined 25 minutes.

Alexis 6 – Tried hard but needs to find his shooting boots.

Chamberlain 6 – Lively and direct.

  1. Alexis looked a bit jaded on the pitch yesterday! I hope that all will be ok with him soon, because we need his shooting boots!

  2. Ospina always has this look on his face it’s not about lack of confidence
The back four didn’t have any job to do
I don’t know why the hell filamini was playing ahead of elneny in a great part of the match
Elneny never put a foot wrong but didin’t impress
Iwobi was the best player for me with welbeck
Campbell was shit except the nicely taken free kick
Walcott was trying to force things but not a starter w quality
Giroud didn’t change the game as i thought he will
Sanchez has to play back as right winger for the rest of the season to find back his feet.

  3. Danny Welbeck is also up there with a shout! Was very unlucky not to score after a crucial save from the hull keeper!

  4. We should pack the bus against barca or we’ll be ripped apart by those 3 guys, we should also avoid scoring an own goal.

  5. props to welbeck

for a guy who just returned from a long injury lay off…… Did better than our entire subs

  6. Let me just say I was hugely disappointed at Elneny yesterday. He is weak, easy to shove aside by Championship players. He doesn’t have much pace to cover for it. And frankly yesterday he looked scared to go forward, along with Flamini. Their back passing was so intense even Arteta would’ve been proud of.

I hope he can improve but I don’t think he will bulk up until next summer..

    1. @JMclovin
I agree with dude being easily out muscled. But to use the “championship player” mime is way off. El is a slight built dude and Hull are in essence an Epl squad with big lads.
El does something very few of our players do, he stick and moves like a boxer, which our style of play is based on. Plus, he’s always on his toes like Santi. Ready to run, rarely caught flat footed.

  7. So at home against a
    sh#te team why did
Arsenal not win or even score?
Bad luck? A little bit rusty?
    Bad refereeing? Brilliant Hull GK?
    Early kick off? Quiet stadium?
Someone left the hand beak on?
Too many changes? One eye on the Barca game?
Trying to walk the ball into the net?
    All B/Sh#t. Lame excuses.
I know why we drew this game.
Spurs fan Professor Moriarty secretly replaced Mike Dean.
The team is involved in spot fixing.
The first goal scorer was promised a date with Susan Boyle
The team want a trip to Hull to get some decent fish and chips
The team wants to plant stink bombs at the Etihad,
Old Trafford and King Power stadiums on the way through.
I know because Sherlock told me 🙂

  8. I couldn’t watch the match so I won’t say much since I didn’t see it but my worry is ‘We don’t score enough goals at home’…We should be scoring more goals at home and I’m not pointing this after yesterday game. Go check our games this season…we score more goals away than home.

In the league’, our highest victory came away. Swansea 0 Arsenal 3, leicester 2 Arsenal 5. I hope we can score more goals at home.

*I stand to be corrected if my fact/point is incorrect.

  9. I paid attention at what elneny play he is very calm and his pass rate was successful mind you side ways but he lobed in few balls I think he was to scared to leave a gap well done for me cause we controlled the game nicely wellbeck did well too i thought if any one could score it would be him was a bit disappointed with Campbell he spieled a few pass but did well with the free kick Barcelona is different i dont know how Mr wenger will approach it but we need a tight midfield to eliminate the three we need to score our chances looking forward for it

  10. I thought El Nenny’s game was too timid. He didn’t show up enough for the ball. It felt as he was playing within himself. The manager should have a firm word with him to express himself more and pass the ball forwards instead of the nearest safe Arsenal player. Welbeck was my MOTM by the way.
