Arsenal player ratings from Chelsea win – Alexis MOTM

The decision about which Arsenal star to give the Man of the Match award to was an especially hard one this weekend after a brilliant team performance saw the Gunners shoot down Chelsea. The TV pundits gave it to Alex Iwobi who had a huge impact but them so did Walcott and he added a lot of defensive work to his attacking threat. Oz\il was brilliant pulling the strings, the two centre backs did a brilliant job stopping Costa and all and Bellerin was brilliant but Alexis Sanchez is my pick because he got the ball rolling by robbing Cahill and beating Courtois, he provided the assist of Ozil and was involved in almost all our forward play.

Cech 6 – Tidy and assured but the defence left him little to do.

Bellerin 8 – Great going forward and solid in defense including that brilliant tackle on Pedro.

Mustafi 8 – Fantastic from the new man. Really looks the part. Gave nothing away.

Koscielny 8 – In control as usual. Costa in pocket. Arsenal have a top quality pairing now.

Monreal 7.5 – Very good all round from Nacho.

Coquelin 6.5 – Was playing well until the injury.

Cazorla 7.5 – Kept everything moving nicely from the middle.

Walcott 8 – Great energy, work rate and impact. Tracked back, caused all sorts of problems and scored.

Ozil 8 – Did his number 10 magician job pulling the strings and scored.

Iwobi 7.5 – Excellent linking up and going forward but left Monreal exposed once or twice.

Alexis 8.5 – Top drawer from the Chilean who is really growing into that central role.

subs:
Xhaka 7 – Great passing and reading of the game.

Gibbs 6.5 – Good cameo from the left back.

Giroud 6 – Looked okay but needs game time to sharpen up.

Bob.

  1. I think the whole back line deserve a 8 because nacho was in 2 on 1 plenty of time and still did enough to keep them at bay or get shot off target……iwobi is in excellent form but he gotta help out…emagine if we had 2 wingners wrk like walcott did yesterday…coyg

  2. Monreal deserves more than 8 if possible. I had to rematch the game and to be frank he did wonderfully well. You guys are just blind to see his work rate.

    1. I think its just that Nacho is so quietly consistent all the time, people forget what it might be like to have a less capable LB. It is a rare match where I would rate him less than a 7.5, and fans have come to expect that from him, so he is a little under appreciated in that regard.

I would also argue that Cech’s performance deserves an 8 as well. The defense was solid and left him with not much to do, but a lot of that is down to his organization and communication. Also, he had that excellent save against Batshuayi to preserve the much deserved clean sheet.

  3. Alexis is really starting to look good in that number 9 role, maybe he could be that 20 goal a season striker we have been looking for. Also, walcott was absolute class yesterday, if he can keep putting those sorts of shift in then he will be immense for us this season. #happygooner

    1. Cech should be a definite 8. He was solid and that last save in the final 10 on the breakthrough was class

  4. I think Coquelin deserves an 8. He intercepted the opponent’s passes a lot and destructive for the opponent’s play. Kinda like Okazaki for Leicester, but in the defensive area. Without him, Arsenal would have been exposed to Chelsea’s quick counter attacks. He has been an integral part for Arsenal in this season. Truly an unsung hero.

  5. Off topic a bit:
Did anyone else get really annoyed with the BT sports coverage/commentary.
It was as if Chelski were playing a game in Europe…all the talk was about their failings, VERY reluctantly did Arsenal get any compliments or even respect. Suppose we shouldn’t expect anything else from the Liverpool/Spuds axis. Then we had Ferdinand saying he would ban players from posting celebration tweet…he’s a real ‘I’ve done it all’ bore.
