Arsenal player ratings from Southampton win – Cazorla MOTM

This was probably the easiest choice of which of the Arsenal players to give the Man of the Match award to ever. Even if the little magician that is Santi Cazorla had not been given the chance to show his nerves of steel by drilling the injury time penalty straight down the middle to give the Gunners a barely deserved win over Southampton, he was by far the best Arsenal player on the pitch. Honourable mentions go to the warrior and overhead kick specialist Laurent Koscielny, his new partner Mustafi and the excellent Francis Coquelin.

Cech 6 – Unlucky for own goal but positioning was suspect. Played well apart from that.

Bellerin 6 – Some good stuff but not at his best.

Mustafi 7 – Excellent debut. Looks like the boss has a proper partner.

Koscielny 7.5 – Solid and committed and great vital goal.

Monreal 6 – A few silly fouls but decent all round game.

Coquelin 7.5 – Combative, committed and everywhere. He also grew into the game going forward.

Cazorla 8.5 – Superb from Santi who dragged the rest of the team along with him after a terrible start by us.

Ozil 6 – A rare off day with some good points but with his ability it should have been more.

Walcott 6 – Good running and movement but did not come off for him today.

Chamberlain 6 – Tried hard but things are not quite clicking.

Perez 5 – The best I can say is that he got better.

subs:
Giroud and Alexis Sanchez 6 – Made a difference.

Iwobi 5 – Did not make much difference.

Bob.

    1. Yea. But we won because they were on the pitch. Isn’t it?
I can like dirty wins sometimes since it gives the points.

    1. The man of the match should go to the referee?. That was a stressful game gud we got 3 points but the manager needa to pull some strings to ensure we pick up our game

      1. Two w@nkers who obviously can’t enjoy a win. It was a gamble and it paid off. Should Manure or Chelsea won like that yesterday you’d say that’s what champions do. The ref wins and lose games and is good to see that once we are at the other end. You will come back here when refs will screw it against us. That’s called karma.

        1. @Budd Don’t mind them. if it is Chelsea or Man u, the same so call Arsenal fans will talk about tactics.
Winning when off form can be interesting also and it gives more points than losing when playing well.

        2. Nah am happy with the 3 points hehe and am not complaining. Just saying we need to pick up form and play our game

  1. I knew Bob had written this article as soon as I saw Walcott’s rating.

Perez wouldn’t get a decent mention because he’s where Bob wants Walcott.

Thierry Henry was not banging in the goals on his debut so anybody being harsh with Perez is basically an idiot.

It should be factored that Perez is understandably nervous, is adapting to playing outside of Spain for the first time, is adapting to the speed and physicality of the EPL, only started training with his new team mates a few days ago because of the international break. His new Home ground feels like an away ground at the moment. Nothing at the moment feel familiar to him.

Bobby Pires was stating in his first few months that he wants a transfer from the hell of the EPL, saying its ridiculous and too physical. After the New Year he clicked and was suddenly one of the best players we’ve had in recent years.

Bergkamp needed time too, but Perez? Let’s put the boot into the guy on this debut.

    Pathetic.

    1. On top of that, Perez played ONE game this season. Mustafi only half a game. I’d say boss is right, they are not fit yet. However, that was the best opportunity to introduce them to the EPL intensity. We had plenty of other options yesterday but Wenger chose to play Mustafi and Perez. It was a gamble (Maureen fans would say that would be genius if he did it) but luckily it paid off. Ozil must step up a bit or simply start on the bench after international break. He always have a stinker when he comes after break.

    2. “, only started training with his new team mates a few days ago because of the international break. ”
WRONG He was here for the whole of the international break because he wasn’t in the Spain squad…. In fact he has never played for his country!

  2. the only person that deserves above ‘6’ is Koscielny for his spectacular goal.
And if Perez got 5, Giroud should be 3
