Arsenal player ratings from Zagreb win – Alexis MOTM

The Arsenal and Germany play maker Mesut Ozil continued his fine run of form and capped another very good game with a well taken goal and could have scored more, but he was edged out for my Man of the Match award by the human perpetual motion machine that is Alexis Sanchez who also scored two great goals and assisted Ozil’s.

Cech 6 – Not much to do for the Arsenal number one.

Bellerin 7.5 – Put his slightly rusty comeback to one side and looked very sharp.

Mertesacker 6 – No problems whatsoever for the BFG.

Koscielny 7 – Not tested defensively and helped to start attacks.

Monreal 7.5 – Solid in defence, good going forward and a key part in the second goal.

Flamini 7.5 – Good rare start and we need him to keep it up in Coquelin’s absence.

Cazorla 7 – Should have scored but a typically classy and controlled game.

Campbell 7 – Brilliant pass to assist Alexis and a decent all round game.

Ozil 8 – Slick as you like and took goal well. He is on fire.

Alexis 8.5 – Imagine if he wasn’t jaded?

Giroud 6.5 – Not his sharpest but tried hard and helped the team.

subs Ramsey 6 – Solid from the Welshman and valuable match time as he returns from injury.

Chambers 6 – Did nothing wrong in his brief cameo.

Debuchy 6 – Same as above.

    1. That was his sheer will, you could still tell he’s tired by the number of times he lost the ball. English players should learn from him, even when he’s on the edge of burn out he still gives 110%, Wenger please give him a new contract ASAP.

    1. Daniel Sturridge has had numerous and repeated injury bouts with varying muscular problems for years. Welbeck has had an excellent injury record until cartilage damage forced surgery. It’s hardly a fair comparison.

  1. OT….for a few seconds…….
    Watching barca….Goodness me…suarez neymar messi…truelly outstanding trio…suarez is just a beast….

We can have a similar front 3- sanchez Walcott welbeck/Ox

Yes we can not compare the 2 trios…..but our front 3 is interchangeable and can all score goals..with blistering pace…I think pace alone we’d have the fastest front 3 in Europe (imagine wenger decides to get auba holy moly)

Left out Campbell cause he aint as explosive or direct as the three above as he has more technical ability and somewhat plays more intricately…well I guess we’ll have to wait for atleast Jan to try it out…

I do not want to discredit giroud or something I love what he contributes and is lethal on his day…..but it seems as though alexis plays better with theo as our striker, as theo tends to drift out wide, leaving space in the middle to penetrate…as a defender you p**sing in your pants…oh well that’s just my 2 cents

I think we’ll progress to the R16. its wenger’s speciality after all….you heard how disappointed alexis was last season even when winning the FA ..he wants that CL crown….and so too does ozil…I think they’ll go guns blazing to Greece..

I think if wilshere, coq, rosisky and welbeck is back and we still in the mix in terms of CL…we can give it a shot….barca are running bulldozers but I think we can match them…

    injury curse leave us alone

    Leessss doooo riisss amigo’s

    1. Personally, I think Campbell could be better on the wings than Ox and Welbeck going forward. His style is misleading as to how much pace he has. The Metro has a nice article showing how much work both Alexis and Campbell put in tracking back and putting in tackles last night, and Campbell made some pretty pacey runs in.
He also has great feet, and as John Heartson has said about him, he can keep the ball and it is bloody hard to get it away from him. If you look at his stats and heat maps for yesterdays game, thereis a lot to be very hopeful about. The thought that this lad, who has real potential to develop, could form a partneship alongside Alexis, Theo, Giroud and Ozil in attack could just be what we have been looking for. Remember, unlike so many of the others you have mentioned, he has not had the benefit of continued Arsenal development. Each mach in a Gunners shirt is a steep learning curve, and despite some slips, he’s looking really promising.

      1. Couldnt agree more, Joel exhibits that a sophisticated technical game trumphs just blistering pace any day of the week.

When healthy I see this lineup possibly in January
        Welbeck/Walcott
        Sanchez…..Ozil….Campbell
        Coq/Krychowiak….Santi/Ramsey
        Nacho….Boss….Gab….Hector
        Cech

      1. Ozil is not the same player he was at Madrid, he’s currently BETTER. Wenger is adding goals to his game.

  2. When we have Alexis_Ozil_Walcott & Ramsey all fit and on form at the same time WooW. Just imagining. Do we have any limit??

  3. Campbell had a very fine performance ! Impressed! And Özil has truly achieved the aura of a world class player but that doesn’t mean he can’t improve further.

  4. Campbell is possibly our most dangerous passer of the ball in the final third. He could run Ozil close on number of assists if he keeps up the same level of performance.
