Arsenal player ratings from Watford demolition – Alexis MOTM

There were some fantastic performances in an Arsenal shirt yesterday all over the pitch, as the Gunners romped to a 4-o thrashing of Watford, including a nice dash of revenge for the FA cup exit a few weeks ago. As well as the attacking and creative play, the performances of the central midfielders in snuffing out any danger and controlling the game was very good but because of the nature of the match I had to pick one of the forward players for Man of the Match and Alexis Sanchez just got my nod ahead of the brilliant Alex Iwobi.

Ospina 7 – Sharp and alert when called upon.

Bellerin 8 – Tireless effort, effective and dangerous down the right and a goal.

Gabriel 6 – Pretty good game but still appears to be a mistake around the corner.

Koscielny 7 – Composed and aggressive on a reasonably easy day.

Monreal 7 – Faultless without being a major influence.

Coquelin 8.5 – Two teams would have struggled against the fantastic Frenchman. Defence splitting pass set up second goal.

Elneny 8 – Brilliant passing and movement. Read the game very well.

Alexis 9 – What a joy to have him back near his best. Bamboozled defenders with pace, power, tricks and energy.

Ozil 8 – Some outrageous skills as well as knitting everything together.

Iwobi 8.5 – A big star in the offing if he keeps this up. Assist and a goal to cap another great game.

Welbeck 8 – Didn’t score but was vital cog in our attacking engine.

subs:
Giroud 6 – Decent effort. Looks hungry.

Walcott 7 – Nice goal and starting to look himself again.

Campbell 7 – Little time but good assist for final goal.

  1. As I said before Sanches no good on left side as he can’t cross with his left, but on the right side his best position he goes his natural way right side. If Wenger had played him there before with Awobie we would have been in the Cup semi and up there with Leicster. But As Ramsey injured
up comes Ellerny, and Ozil now with Welbeck and Sanches ,Awobie all fast and clever he just shines, it’s now clear that no changes or rotating only if injuries. Giroud and Walcott on in 65 minute. This team is worth getting up at 2am here in Aussie to watch them. Before I would record the game and fast forward to get to bed earlier Well done team. CB

    1. “If Wenger had played him there before with Awobie we would have been in the Cup semi and up there with Leicster.”

That’s true. It would also have been us facing Atletico Madrid and not Barcelona 🙂

  2. I agree with the motm, I thought I was going to be saying how can you not give it to Alexis, other sites and in game commentary went for Iwobi, Coquelin or Elneny, but it was between Iwobi and Alexis for me. A goal and an assist a piece, always looking for the ball and bringing everyone into play. Both of them probably deserve it but if I had to choose well then Alexis edges it.

I was impressed though with how Iwobi tried that Bergkamp far corner shot, a couple of times and even came off the crossbar on one. It’s great now that we have two players who don’t mind giving it a go from distance

  3. Elneny recorded the most passes for any player in a game by any prem player.
Coqulan vs Everton the most tackles by a player in 90min
    Ozil top assist in Europe

Our midfield looks set and we still have santi to come back
    (Wilshire,Ramsey are now squad players)
We just need one player to replace Rosicky, arteta, flamini….

    Xhaxa has been strongly linked
Ozyakup is an ex player who as come along well
    Krychowiak is a beast

  4. Am i the onLy one who Loves Iwobi’s gun cracking signature moves after scoring a goaL

    Crick-crack….BazooKa……Kaboom!

    1. I love this guy Iwobi. Young gun, come up. Look at Hector B. Barca is a mix of academy and foreigns. Young good players are fearless and when they have the kind of confidence like Hector B. and Iwobi, they can take risks that can pay.

  5. It’s not yet all and dusted with the new prolific Boss’ starts which I watched yesterday afternoon on my TV set.

Alexis needs to be releasing the ball or pass it in time to his mates to allow the fluency of the Gunners’ game to move-on or keep accelerating. And I think Campbell will be a good sub option for Iwobi or vice vasal at mid-left front as both of them can scheme or wriggle past their markers which is very important.

That’s apart, the weak link that I noted yesterday in Arsenal overlapping attack, is Monreal whose wingback attacking prowess is inadequate as he can overlap very well. But he can’t or hardly beat his marker as he has appeared to be afraid of taking on his marker to scheme or wriggle pass him to size-up the goalee or cross the ball to his on-rushing mate. But instead he conceded possessions cheaply to his marker. But he can still reasonably hold down his leftback defensive duty well for Arsenal.
