Arsenal rumour round-up – Cheeky Morata move, Kante, Tierney, Oxford, Chilwell

I for one am hoping for an exciting summer of arrivals for Arsenal, and a number of stars are being linked with moves to the Emirates.

N’Golo Kante has been strongly linked with a move to North-London this summer, and his club are now said to be resigned to losing their defensive midfield demon. We are claimed to be eyeing a £20 Million bid in order to trigger his minimum fee release clause, and would be a huge coup.

Another huge signing would the arrival of Alvaro Morata. The Juventus striker has proven to be a big game player in Italy, taking the record for consecutive European games scored in away from the legendary Alessandro Del Piero. We are now claimed to have offered Real Madrid £51 Million to make the move happen, with the Spaniards able to trigger a buy-back clause and make a vast profit on their former youth product. Cheeky, but who cares if we land our man!

We are also believed to be eyeing up three young future stars at present, including Reece Oxford, Kieran Tierney and Ben Chilwell.

The West Ham centre-back is said to have turned down a contract offer from his club, and is demanding £40,000 per week plus a £1 Million signing on fee to agree a new deal. We are following the developments…

Kieran Gibbs looks likely to leave this summer, having failed to earn a regular place in the Arsenal team this term, and we are likely to bring in one of Chilwell or Tierney to play as understudy to Nacho Monreal this year. The Celtic youngster has enjoyed an impressive year in Scotland, and was even selected for the division’s Team of the Year, while the Leicester man has rarely featured for his side. I know which one I’d prefer to sign…

Is Morata the man needed to bring back the glory days?

  1. There’s something fishy about this rumour and I’m hoping that this Morata bid is just a smoke screen, while the real negotiations are secretly going on, for our ‘Real’ striker target! ? fingers crossed .. Lewandowski … or Aubameyang … Mark my words! … Sanchez is going and Walcott is staying! … and it’s going to take a bigger star signing than Morata to reassure the Arsenal faithful. ?

      1. Hahaha ? is that YOU! Gooner Lad? ? ?
French league 2 ?… Nah, His a smoke screen too ?
The real target is the new Vardy in the non league, that every club is chasing ?

  2. This early in silly season, everything we read about is likley to be a smokescreen. But is it possible we are going for both Xhaka AND Kante? That’ll totally reshape the midfield and signal that Wenger intends for us to play an entirely different kind of football next year. Can you imagine a middifeild fo Kante/Xhaka/Jack? TENACIOUS!

    1. I think that wenger has finally realised that possession football doesn’t win you games, anymore.
Leicester City had the least possession in the majority of their games and also Athletico Madrid play that defencive counter attacking football too.

We may even see some tactics from wenger next season and maybe … just maybe … a plan B ??… naah, who am I kidding! ?. . Wenger and plan B, just don’t mix! ?

      1. Wrong. Wenger’s got a plan B– Yaya Sanogo. Makes you wish for the days of Lord Bendtner, no?

    2. Xhaka and Kante at once? They’re both DMF. Where’s Arsene going to put Santi and Coquelin?

      1. Both are not dm
Kante is similar to matuidi energetic ball winning box to box(coqulan)
Xhaka is more arteta type but more robust (elneny)

  3. I’m curious guys…
If Wenger signed Xhaka, Kante and Morata/Benzema and if Gibbs leaves one of the two promising young left backs mentioned in the article (I can see either lewi or Aubama going to Real) this window. How would fans feel?

  4. Where is Leo ‘the insider’? Do these rumours hold anything? being an Arsenal fan I think we know how it goes, get linked to every worldclass striker or a promising one but buying them!.. Wenger’s wallet is encrypted with a very long secret code. The transfer window might close before he finishes entering the code.

    1. I think Leo has died along with Hafiz Rahman. Where the hell those kids when you need ’em.

  5. If we need a striker that will get us goals that can help us win the EPL then Morata is certainly not the man. He is good at taking on defenders but his finishing is not very clinical. That’s why Dybala has kept him on the bench in Juve. If we truly want a striker that can potentially fire us to the title and fully maximize the magic Ozil is creating in the midfield, then we must put the required funds we need to get Abumayang on the table. Besides the £51 million tag on Morata is ridiculous, he is worth just half of that. And if we want to further guarantee goals through out the season irrespective of what happens then we can acquire Lacazette or Icardi as back up.

  6. At times I marvel at the logic of some fans. Giroud scores 16 goals and is deemed not good enough and so must be replaced by Morata at a cost of 50 million pounds. A player who scored 7 goals in the league, and 11 goals in all competitions. Others clammer for Lukaku as the replacement, a player who scored 18 league goals, at a cost of 40 million pounds. So Lukaku’s two extra goals will allow arsenal to lift the championship next season? There are those who claim that with chances that Ozil creates Lukaku will score more goals but fail to demonstrate that Lakaku’s chance conversion rate is far superior that that of Giroud. Players are not bought simply because you are fed up with the ones you have but because they represent a meaningful upgrade to what you have.

On the issue of Kante, need I remind people here that Ramsey was Arsenal’s best player in the 2013/14 season, Coquelin was Arsenal’s best player for the second half of the 2014/15 season. Kante had his best season in 2015/16 but that does not mean he can consistently perform at that rate. It could be that he has finally realized his potential or it is just but his best season and no more. Anyone remember Morgan Schneiderlin whom people want Arsenal to buy in the summer window. How did he perform when he joined Man United?

The writer of the article must check his facts first. Oxford is not a CB but a midfielder.

  7. Wenger would never spend 51 million on 1 player, he’s too cheap & wouldn’t like to take that much money from Stan’s account.Don’t get me wrong I would love it but AW will never buy more than one player no matter what happens as he thinks it will upset the team. The team should be upset with finishing second.
