Arsenal rumours – Adli deal off but Torreira agreed and Leno “around the corner”

Well this looks set to be one of Arsenal’s most amazing transfer window for many a season, but we are sure to have a few disappointments as well, and today we are hearing that Yacine Adli has changed his mind about joining Arsenal and has decided to remain in Paris with PSG. Robert Pires admitted yesterday that it is hard for a teenager to up sticks and move to London away from your family and friends. ‘I know Unai Emery likes this player.” Pires said.

“I don’t know what’s happened the last two days, but if he joins Arsenal, I think he will be a good player for the new squad. ‘He’s young and it’s very difficult to leave your family, your country and find new players, new football and a new philosophy.

‘It’s very difficult, very tough, that adaption. But I know Arsenal is like a family, so if he wants, he can make a success of his career at Arsenal.

‘Everything is new and you need to adapt. New football, new teams. So for him, if he joins, at the beginning it’s very important to learn and watch what happens on the field because you need to learn every day.’

So it seems that he has decided not to take that step despite his closeness to Unai Emery. Oh well, back to the drawing board….

Secondly it would appear that we are closer than ever to signing Lucas Torreira as Arsenal have triggered his release clause and the Uruguayan is set to be our new DM next season. The Mirror reports that Arsenal have agreed a £26million deal for the Uruguayan international. His stats for last season were an average of 2.8 tackles a game and a key pass in every outing. Pass percentage success is 87.2 per cent, and he played a pass every 90 seconds of a game. Get in there!

And what about Leno? Everyone keeps saying that we need a new keeper but is he the one? According to the Norwegian Bundesliga expert Jan Aage Fjortoft, Leno was out-of-sorts last season and hasn’t really progressed. Fjortoft tweeted: “Bernd Leno to Arsenal seems to be just around the corner.

“Was a great talented keeper. It’s fair to say he hasn’t “taken the next step”.

“But a move to England can be good for him.”

Can he really improve at Arsenal? I know he will only cost 20m GBP, but is it worth the risk?

  1. Messi and his family were sponsored to move to Barcelona, but I guess Arsenal is unwilling to do so for Adli. Maybe Cristiano Ronaldo also got similar help from Man United when he was 18?

Torreira’s style looks similar to Makalele and Kante. I am just worried about his small stature and his speed, but Xabi Alonso and Pirlo was also very slow

Leno’s price seems to reflect his abilities, at a mere twenty millions, but Cech needs stronger competition, because I don’t think Martinez, Ospina and Macey can provide that. I bet Nick Pope’s price is much higher than Leno’s, because he is English

    1. I get what you mean though should we not look at the likes of Fellani & William Cravalho who are free? We need our midfield beefed up a bit along with Torreira who’s a little terror in the middle.

      1. Who is talking Fellani? I won’t get him for free.Torreira is better.
We should not be a team of spent forces.

          1. AMN next to him sorted ,means I won’t have to see Ramsey and xhaka cocking up our midfield for the next 5years

        1. Fellaini is a better squad option than Elneny in my opinion. I like Elneny he’s tidy, but when you need a difference from the bench Fellaini is a much better option. He’d come on if we are trying to hold a lead, and he wins almost every ball he goes up for, we don’t have anyone like that. Also if we are against a stronger midfield presence and it shows, he’d come on. Or even if we need to break a bus parking sides wall down, Ozil could find him easier than he’d find Giroud. You’re right, Fellaini is on his last stretch and he’s not really anything special, but he gives us options if he’d agree to it. But at this stage of his career am guessing he wants playing time and there’ll be a few suitors for his signature.

          1. As you rightly say, Fellaini may not be anything special but his proven physical strengths and awkwardness to play against are well known. I see nothing whatever in Elneny to make me think that the fee we paid for him of £5 mill was not correct. A fill in , bits and pieces player and not anywhere near the standard we need. In the short term and at a decent price and reasonable wages- but only if both apply – I would take Fellaini.

            1. Personally I would prefer Calvahlo, especially should he cancel his contract. He is younger, more skillful and would not demand wages as high as Fellaini.

            2. And the worst part is that Arsenal have given him No. 4 shirt.

The bloody iconic arsenal #4 to elneny?
With no disrespect he is a good squad player. But nowhere near an arsenal #4.

I really dont understand who finalises shirt numbers at arsenal.
Coz they really dont have any idea how to market the shirts and increase the sales.

Who is gonna buy a #4 elneny shirt?
If it was given to some midfielder we are going to buy that would fetch a lot of money.

Can you imagine that PSG recouped the entire transfer sum they paid for neymar through justvshirt sales in 6months?

We keep saying Arsenal is run like a business than a football club. But i doubt if they even know how to run the business and not miss any oppurtunity to earn money.

          2. Elneny signed a contract a few months ago so he’s definitely staying. Fellaini I agree is a better squad option. Neither player is too impressive tbh

        2. Goodwill – Why not Fellani? Hes Free, strong, battles & League Exp! Who do we have Elneny & Xhaka, c’mon bro he’s better than both of them combined! Considering where we are (6th,EL) then he’s a steal for us for a bit of bite in the middle with Torreira, Ramsey & Ozil battle for no10

        1. I read that his pressing game is one of his strong suits and he excelled at it in Sampa and also started many of their attacks after winning it. He looked quick to me too, like a blood hound.

      2. If the players you mentioned are free, they would be good investment

Fellaini might be needed for plan B, because currently we don’t have any towering player that can score from set pieces, in case plan A fails

    2. Just to add, the breakdown of Torreira deal is €30 million. £12 million a year instalments over three years. 5 year deal. Personal terms expected to be around £70k.The player will have his medical in Russia. He will wear the No. 19 shirt.

Soyuncu deal has been agreed. He will become an Arsenal player pending a medical. He rejected lots of clubs including last minute Bayern Munchen attempt to hijack.

Sokratis as I said will be announced when the German stock market reopens.

Bernd Leno did choose Arsenal over Napoli however his agent convinced him to join us.I believe his agent used us to get more cash.
Personal terms yet to be agreed.

        1. Kev
You also said sokratis had problems with passport when I knew the FFP was holding it up 5 days ago lol and will be announced July 1st
Adli is not off either bcoz RMC said he u-turned then goal.com said he’s signing for PSG but there’s no evidence of that when Adli tweeted that RMC “know nothing” so until it’s official Adli is signing for Arsenal when he’s contract runs out!
Leno is nearly done bar £2mil add ons
Soyuncu is not a certain at all atm bcoz he flew out on plane but no one knows we’re he was going yet!
Gelson martins is supposed to be cancelling his contract but not seen evidence yet also ain’t seen evidence of arsenal talking to him either, just media atm but that would be a huge coup getting him on a free but I can’t see it coz it’s to good to be true!

  2. Leno ?
    Sokratis ?
    Leichstenier ?
    Torreira ?

Not a bad start! Now departing is Ospina to a Mexican team apparently so Cech & Leno. Can learn under Cech as he is much like Wojech, he hasn’t ironed out some if the flaws but a new change of scenery & guidance under Cech we could be set.

    Next deals apparently lined up;
    Martins – Free maybe! RW
    Soyuncu £35m CB

What a start if we can get all threse deals done soon

  3. That Lucas deal I pray should be completed. We need a proper DM.
    Happy we are really active.
Adli is for the immediate future. He will be a good addition.
For a GK, we need one better that Cech. The one that can win us points.

    1. Lucas Torreira is done.He will have a day off to complete everything.Medical will take place in Russia.

  4. @gotanidea has no idea what he is speaking, 20M for GK is not a small amount and Torreira by no means is a slow player, he has the same speed as Santi IMO.

          1. Great comeback! I CONCEDE DEFEAT AND CONGRATULATE YOUR WIT. I had better stick to the family Glacier Mint business and leave the wit to my betters!

  5. Torreira and Leno would be great. Upgrades in 2 areas we have been weak in. Throw in Sokratis and another CB / a winger / offloading the deadwood and we are good to go.

Aldi can hang, we are too big of a club to be crying over some youngster. The Barca situation is one to keep an eye on, they might be getting ride of some players who can be useful to us.

Admin have you deliberately left out the Martins & Chambers rumour? I think there still trending though without solid sources.

    1. Honestly,I can’t tell.Looking at the positions we are in need of an Ozil style signing if it were to happen would likely be a winger as we have lots of players in other positions. But as at now:
      Torreira done
      Soyuncu done
Leno fee agreed but personal terms yet to be agreed

      1. Right, I’ll play along. How do you know Soyuncu is done, or close to be agreed, it isn’t the report about him being at the airport is it.

Leno, great news. Torriera, great news, things do seem a bit different now than under Wenger I must admit, with the faster acting in transfer market and the more obvious position filling getting looked at. Last season we did act fast and money can be a reason for other seasons slow movement, but the positions being looked at tells us this regime is a bit different. Wenger was too much in house before even considering a weak position.

  6. Too bad about Adli though he would have become a star at arsenal, we actually have a lot of youngsters with tremendous talent, who needs to be given the opportunity Josh Desilva and Greek youngster from the under.
23 Dragomovic not the correct spelling.

Well seems like everything going well with Torreira deal, would rather a taller Keeper though and not Leno, because one of arsenal weak point is set plays and crosses for the the big opposition players and tallers keepers normally are more comfortable in that area. Still think Martinez should be given his opportunity, well can not have it all.

Ok lets us see who comes in

    1. Is everyone sure that he done a u-turn. Adli tweeted that they don’t know what they are talking about and I read that he was in London not long after the tweet.

    2. “because one of arsenal weak point is set plays and crosses” No it isn’t. This is just a common myth pushed forward by these “expert” pundits. If you look at the stats last season we conceded the third least amount of goals in the entire PL from corners and set-pieces.

See how easily the media can manipulate you into thinking Arsenal are worse than they actually are?

      1. This has nothing to do with media, I said “one of’ I could have said many other things, cech is afraid of a blow to the head so he does not seriously contest crosses, ospina good shot stopper but weak on crosses, I do not need media to say that , Manu, West brom, Watford and others all scored from crosses which our keepers was no where near.
        We coul

  7. WHO CARES ABOUT ADLI.

    WE ARE GETTING LUCAS TORREIRA.

2.8 tackles per match (38 matches)
    2.0 interceptions per match
MOST RECOVERIES last season in Serie A
1 key pass and 1 shot per match
    2.3 dribbles per match
2.5 long balls per match with 88% pass succession

    1. He looks just like what the doctor ordered, am really excited with this signing. How many years has it been, it might finally be filled. Upset about Adli if it’s true, I reckon he looked like he was destined to be a top top player, one of the stand out type like Ibra or Yaya, very distinct style.

  8. OT: Lucas Perez has been told to find a new club after a meeting with Emery as he couldn’t guarantee him minutes in the coming season

    Ospina will be sold also

Mustafi will also be made available for transfer.
Head of recruitment Sven Mislintat isn’t the German’s biggest fan and has doubts about his ability as a centre-back.

    1. Another 10m to the transfer pot from Perez, add Welbeck,Ospina & Mustafi to that & we are good to go!

      1. would like to see Ramsay and Bellerin joining the list tooo…..

this would allow Emery to build his team….the Emery team for the new era

    2. So Welbeck will be staying? Doesn’t he have one year left? No chance he gets another Arsenal contract so this is the time to see

      1. If Arsenal are serious about pursuing a
winger the likes of Martins, Pavon, the dutch
kid from PSV, Draxler etc. than Dannys days
@ Arsenal are definitely numbered. I
personally believe the Englishmen, much like
Wilshere is a valuable assest to the team
and provides flexibility and depth to the
Arsenal roster. However if teams are interested
in his services and he desires more first team
assurances than he will certainly be moved
on after the WC. Perhaps, Wolves, Fulham or
Cardiff will be looking for veteran players
such as Danny to bring experience and
        leadership to there EPL campaigns.

    3. Why aren’t folks here up in arms about Perez being told to find a new club by the new gaffer? Didn’t Wenger tell him same last season and everyone was castigating him for letting a prolific striker go out on loan. The ‘Prolific’ striker then went on to score all of 7 goals (3 penalties) in over 30 matches for his previous club as they got relegated. Double standards surely.

  9. I just got a feeling Leno is just a costlier version of karius.
And I was never a big fan of Adil , wish him luck anyways.

    1. And you are right . he’s prone to errors. I’d rather we put Macey Or Martinez between the sticks this season and see how they do instead of wasting 20m on transfer fee on Leno.since the transfer budget can’t get us a world class goal keeper.

I don’t want us wanting a new goal keeper the season after.

Anyway, I trust Sven will make the right call

      1. Bernd Leno is 26 years old and 1.9 m (6’3″) tall. He just missed the cut for the German World Cup squad, so is a goal keeper of promise. For the buy clause imposed he looks a good buy.

  10. Arsenal announce record season ticket renewals.
6,000 people have requested a seat move. The club are going through applications this week. It is a huge amount of people, driven by a lot of people being forced to move due to arsenal creating more disabled areas to fall in line with Premier League regulations. though it is very unlikely that all 6,000 requests would be accepted. This is the largest percentage of renewals since we moved to the new stadium. It shows there is a new wave of optimism. Some fresh air. It highlights why the club eventually got rid of Arsene Wenger. The empty seats at the ground put paid to his time at Arsenal. You only have to see on Twitter people declaring that they have renewed, and were unlikely to do so if Arsene Wenger was still in charge.

The Arsenal season ticket waiting list currently sits at well over 40,000. In the past, it has dropped by about 4-5,000 a year.

    1. Yay!!!, we have our Arsenal back, now what do we complain about ……where’s Kev.

    2. NEVER SAID A TRUER WORD. I still , though, fail to understand WHY it was left to us fans to enact this change(sacking Wenger) , by our action. I also , personally, do NOT forget Gazidis’s lack of action over so many years. prior to when he was forced into it this spring. It may be better late than never, which is true. But it is not better late than early, is it? Some do not forget that , now that the oily one is now getting so much praise . I thank the fans who took action, well before I give any credit due to the smarmy one

      1. Jon, please take your negative rambling elsewhere. At least get your facts straight. Gazidis was the one who wanted Wenger out but was over ruled by the rest of the board last year.

        1. No. Your memory is too short. Gazidis replaced Dein back in 2007. He did nothing , nor even tried to, save tell constant lies too us fans for many years, years in whch Wenger was mismanaging. Only when fan prsessure really started to bite , around two/three seasons, ago did Gazidis even start to think WENGER HAD LOST THE PLOT. He was FAR slower than most fans wanted him to be , to even begin to instigate changes. THOSE are the FACTS, since YOU clearly need them spelt out!

    3. The cause was just. It is what the fans wanted. If it’s true that some of these deals are going to go through in the coming weeks then it really is a new Arsenal. And about time too. Still not getting carried away until I see players in the shirt, but it’s nice to feel a bit of optimism. Please don’t mess this up. Crucial time in our history

  11. There are clearly several deals in negotiation and this present set up looks to me to be a million miles better than WENGERS DINOSAUR MUSEUM of the last decade.Personally, I am very content that the dynamic trio now in charge are daily improving our bleak prospects that we were suffering , prior to our glorious success in ousting Wenger. We are no longer the dinosaur club of the top six. Seems to me , that Chelsea now have this title, with an owner who can’t even visit his own club on a permanent basis.

    1. The difference between the likes of Arsenal, Utd & Liverpool is all successful spending the club’s own earned money rather than buying titles like CITY & CHELSEA. Karma has a way of coming back on you,Chelsea is in £1bn in debt to Roman as are City to Sheik.

      1. I don’t see the Sheik ever wanting his money back – it is mere loose change to him anyway- but if Abramovitch cannot regain his residency, who knows what he may do with Chelsea? And if he will sell up either? I fancy our chances of making top four next season , above those of Chelsea. I believe so do most of their own fans, in their own hearts, whatever they may say in public.

        1. i dont think we will finish below 4th if we can sort out our gk and defense..

our last season was destroyed primarily due to inconsistencies in Mustafic and Cech as well as the Sanchez saga which he did not play his best

          1. What you say is of course true about last season but SURELY the overriding cause was directly down to WENGER. The other reasons you mention were caused by his own poor management.

    2. jon cant you wright a comment without running down wenger he is gone for gods sake ,give it a rest already.

      1. John, I was speaking positively about the new , dynamic set up and contrasting it positively with the past set up. To illustrate my point properly I need to mention the wrongs of the still recent past. Seems likely to me you were a Wenger fan Otherwise you would not have objected to my optimistic and positive post. Care to explain if this is true? Moreover, I am quite capable of writing whatever I choose to write without any diection from you as to what to write. I have never noticed any fresh and original posts from you and can only conclude that you are not able to do so. I can do so however and will continue to do , with or without your permission . Get that, Sonny?

        1. jon fox i am not a sonny boy any more i am 86 years old and i am not a wenger fan.your remarks to me were not called for.

          1. Neither were yours to me. If people unfairly attack me , I usually give them a verbal bloody nose. I am sorry you are old; I am old too and sorry about that too and perhaps at our age we should both know better!

  12. I think the new director of AFC transfer (Mislitant) is doing a perfect job for the club so far, and his appointment is changing the club automatically.
His type, was what the club was lacking many years ago. And I just hope that with him, we can make a very big different.
    Congratulations Sven Mislintant.

    1. Once the players are officially signed I will pat him on the back. I need definitive proof this club has changed and aren’t empty promises. Things are looking very positive at the moment though, but I’m just so used to being burned by Arsenal and all these transfer rumors.

  13. In other news ,

Bruno de Carvalho has been suspended as president of Sporting, which will likely have some impact on things… (Gelson Martins & William Carvalho)

  14. The new Management team ALL seem to be working in tandem and the signing of new players seem to have been thought out well beforehand. It makes you wonder why someone never thought about operating this way a decade ago

      1. John , You need to bear in mind that the WC starts tomorrow. Things are more difficult in WC years . I am content that positive moves are being planned and will result in new players coming and some deadwood leaving too. Under Wenger we learned never to expect quick action. Or any at all, most often. WENGER HAS ONLY BEEN REPLACED BARELY FIVE WEEKS AGO, SO GIVE THEM TIME.

  15. So it seems Sokratis is just a waiting game and everything is already signed. So our CB’s would be Holding/Chambers/Mustafi/Sokratis/Koscielny/Mavro
Six is obviously too many to have on squad.
    Holding-Loan
    Chambers-Keep
    Mustafi-Sell. Now. Please.
    Sokratis- New
    Kos- Keep
    Mavro- Keep
What do you guys think? And IF Soyuncu were to come, what would you change? Chambers sold? I was just starting to see his potential last season, but tough decisions need to be made and he has value in this market

    1. If Mustafi is sacrificed for the young Turk, I
honestly cant see any additional CB’s leaving
the club this summer. A loan for Holding makes
perfect sense but Arsenal would be playing a
dangerous numbers game without any definitive
timetable on Boss’s return from such a serious
injury. Even if he does physically return it must
be said that the Frenchmens best days as a
Gunner may already be behind him. If Arsenal
are able to stay competitive in the EPL race
into January Emery and co. may revisit this scenario in the winter window and possibly
add an additional quality CB as well loan
Holding out for the balance of the season.

  16. for the first we are on the same page with the board a new feeling of optimism….i believe in sven mislintstat
