Arsenal Rumours May 25th – Giroud, Kalou, Chamakh, Vertonghen, Sturridge and RVP

There are quite a few Arsenal rumours building up in the media at the moment, but there seems to be very little about M’Vila which is one player I think Wenger WILL buy!

But there are a few other possibilities if Arsenal really want to improve the team next season. First up is some weird story about Van Persie taking a personal visit to Juventus to have a look around and discuss terms, but I really don’t believe that one. Why should he? The same wages, the same chances of winning the Champions League (zero!) and just as much competition to win the League. No I just can’t see it. By the way Van Persie is 10/1 to score the most goals at Euro 2012. Maybe he should wait until after the competition to see what he is offered elsewhere?

The Olivier Giroud one sounds plausible though. The story goes that Arsenal have offered cash plus Chamakh to Montpellier. We all know that Chamakh needs to return to France to regain his form, but he has often stated that he would only go back to Bordeaux so I doubt that will happen, but Giroud will certainly be worth a go for us…..

Vertonghen? I’m not happy about this rumour now. Yes he wanted to come to us and play with Vermaelen, but now it seems that he is set on his move to Spurs but wants to keep us as a backup does not sit well with me at all. In fact I think the fact that Wenger gave Djourou a contract extension tells me that Wenger thinks the defence is fully covered….

As for Salomon Kalou, I think he would be a good addition at a typical Wenger price (free!). Wenger has inquired about him in the past, he has proven Premiership experience, and he once said: “Arsene Wenger said he thought of signing me? That’s an honour for me, an honour because he is a very great coach,”

“I know that every single player in the world dreams of playing for Arsene Wenger. I have a lot of respect for him, he is one of the best coaches in the world so why not?

The only problem is that Wenger himself said last December that he wasn’t going for him, but now he’s free he may change his mind…..

Now Sturridge to me looks like the perfect relacement if Van Persie leaves. He is still young and a goal machine when given the chance – and is sick of being left out on the wing at Chelsea. If Torres is going to be the new centre-forward at Chelsea I could see Sturridge leaving. He said the other day: “You never know what is going to happen in the future,”

“Everyone is going to evaluate the season that they’ve had, the club will certainly evaluate players and I will certainly evaluate my situation.

“Obviously I see myself as a centre-forward and hopefully next season I will be able to achieve that feat because I don’t see myself playing on the wing.”

Does anyone else agree that he could score a shedload of goals for Arsenal?

Forget Vertonghen, he’s an idiot for wanting to join Tottenham and not us…I wouldn’t really take Sturridge as a replacement; as talented as he is, he looks pretty selfish, and that doesn’t really fit with our style of play…if RVP leaves (God forbid), I’d prefer someone like Giroud as a replacement. And I don’t think we really need Kalou that much…maybe if Arshavin leaves..

Giroud is an increadable striker. I have absolutely no doubt that he will be regarded as one of the best striker in the world if he joins arsenal.

Nooo, we dont need kalou we dont want any rejects.Hoillet would be much better on a bosman plus his younger. And as far as RVP goes we shouldn’t even think of selling him, tie him down after 3-4 signings.

Kalou can be a decent squad player…

We definitely need an experienced attacking midfelder.. y not sneijder??? no club is behind him so v can get him in a cut prize deal..

podolksi,m’villa, sneijder and kalou can add great strength, depth and most importantly experience to our young team…..

I wanted vertonghen to come up until I read about using us as a back up he can eff off in that case, sturridge, giroud, podolski, rvp, now that would be perfect for our strikers nx season if chamakh Is bein offloaded an park , but that’s only if wenger is not guna play him because he has potential but if wenger is not guna play him why keep him?,

Giroud is the man. We dont need all the other names. Kalou is inconsistent. Why buy kalou when we have the option of taking benayoun for 1mil? Benny is solid and content as a squad member. Sturridge is selfish, wasteful and lacks the needed maturity. our main striker must be a mature and reliable footballer who plays for the team as well. Whatever happened to clint dempsey.

DON’T AGREE- STURRIDGE AS A REPLACEMENT FOR RVP…PLEASE COME ON. IF WE’RE SERIOUS ABOUT CHALLENGING THEN I’M AFRAID THAT REPLACING OUR STAR PLAYER/CAPTAIN WITH DANIEL STURRIDGE WILL NOT PROVIDE THE NECESSARY IMPROVEMENTS FOR US TO DO SO. HONESTLY, IS THAT HOW LOW US FANS ARE AIMING. AND KALOU- WELL EVEN ON A FREE- IT WOULD JUST BE MORE DEADWOOD ADDED TO THE TEAM. WE HAVE TO STOP ACQUIRING MEDICO PLAYERS. HAVE YOU GUYS SEEN HIM PLAY. I’D BE DEVASTATED IF WE LOST RVP FULL STOP, BUT THEN TO LATER REPLACE HIM WITH THESE TWO WOULD JUST MAKE IT 1000 TIMES WORSE. WHEN ARE WE GOING TO LEARN THAT WE NEED TO REPLACE QUALITY WITH QUALITY IF WE WANT TO IMPROVE.

Terribly written article on the whole. Just so you know, Wenger didn’t give djourou a contract extension. He had a clause in his contract, as many of the lesser players do, which allowed him to renew his own contract with the club without needing to hold contract talks. I’ve no doubt Wenger would sell him if a good offer came in.

good option but won’t like to see it happening all we needs now is m.villa and nothing more my reasons are thus: with our 4.2.3.1 formation r.v.p will be be up there as a lone striker if he stays and its likely that poldi will start at de left while theo starts at de right then we ve jack as de supporting striker thats the attacking mid.fielder and we will ve Arteta, söng and m.Villa to choose two out of the three holding mid.fielders them our back four will be sagna, vern, kos, gìbbs then we will still ve some quality back ups in Rosicky, as a left mid.fielder and an attacking mid.fielder then chanberlain as a right mid.fielder and we still ve options like gervinho on the wings then in the holding mid.field area we ve ramsey, diaby and coquelin so guys with only one signing we will ve a quality first and second eleven that can compete for europe honours, the league and domestic trophies in
first team: szs, sagna, kos, mert, gibbs, m.villa, song, wilshere
    theo, poldi and v.p
second team: matinez, jenko, verm, dj/miquel, santos, arteta, ramsey/arshavin, diaby/coq, gerv, chambo, campbel/aneke/park
so with the above teams we would ve a second team that can probably compete for europe honours and also give the first team some breather with the rotation of players like arteta in song/m.villa and verm in kos/mert and rosicky in poldi and then poldi can rotate with v.p and some more in the wings with gerv/chambo for theo what do u think guys my comment is quite long i guess +2348183909650 make me ur blogger

Sturridge also… Not good enough to play for Arsenal.

Giroud would be a good signing.. especially if we get rid of Chamackh as well as part of the deal.

Please bring in M’Vila & Giroud. If we want to take anyone away from Chelsea it should be Romelu Lukaku (Sturridge is good but I think Romelu will be as good if not better than Drogba in a few years) and Benayoun. Call me crazy but I really appreciate what Benayoun did for us this season and he’d be cheap. He’s got loads of EPL experience and could really help the younger lads.

Vertonghen can do whatever he wants. He wants playing time and at Spuds he’ll get it whereas at Arsenal he’ll have to fight for it.

Sturridge is twice the player Giroud is. Kalou is ok – to his credit he always puts in a good shift and works hard, he has good technique and is commited, i think he could work especially as a freebie.
Unfortunately I cant see us paying out for Sturridge and instead endong up with Giroud.
Giroud is 25 and spent most of his career until 2010 in lower leagues in france.
Hardly the quality of a natural goal machine like Sturridge! Who is proven premier league quality.
Giroud just looks big and physical and powerful in the air – that doesnt sound much suited to us. Chamakh is good in the air but we don’t play that ‘down the channels & high cross into the box’ way. He’d be good for physical battles against Stoke etc but My vote is for Sturridge anyday.

To all the no-brainers complaining about Vertonghen’s choice of the SPUDS – The SPUDS chairman approached and had discussions with the player, Arsenal did not: Now you want the player to commit to Arsenal who have not even put in a bid!! You must be crazy and you must not be Arsenal supporters if you have such a myopic view of the goings on in football.

sorry but Juventus are considerably better than you’ve suggested.
I have two issues with what you’ve said, first of all, your comment about them having the same competition for winning the league: They just won it having lost no games (didn’t some English team do that recently? … oh yeah) yet no player scored more than 10 goals, their top-scorer Matri, though a good player, is not a goal-scorer, hence all the links to proven goalscorers around Europe and who more prominent than our Van Persie? (very few).

I doubt RvP will leave, family settled/happy here but were an offer to come in from Barca/Real (which i doubt it will) that (in my opinion) will tempt him as it would the vast majority of players.

Do more research, it’s just embarrassing really.

    CoyG
Second the same wages. Arsenal have a strict wage bracket structure etc.. Yes we’re prepared to pay more for the best player in the premier league but Juventus have shed-loads, having clearly returned to prominence following their fall from grace, they’re loaded and their wage structure is extravagant.

Bendtner for Shinji Kagawa; Chamack for Olivier Giroud; Arshavin for Moussa Ndembele or Clint Dempsey; Denilson for Mvilla or Etienne Capoue; and Almunia for another Goal Keeper and Vela, Fabiansky and Diaby for profit – Works for me

You can forget Giroud, hazard, gotze, mvilla. Wenger wont sign them guaranteed. He’s already made his ‘marquee’ signing in podolski and would definately not sign another attacker if RVP and Walcott put pen to paper. We should sign benayun for 1 mil. Snap up Van der wiel on a free, And offer Chamak for Belhanda. RoSICKy and diaby will once again prove themselves. I would like to see song and wilshere in the middle of the park with Coquelin CDM. i just wanna comment abt the RVP situation(just my thoughts). the reason he delayed to sign is because Wenger promised signings and they are waiting to see who they will get. so we will see big names arriving. RVP will only sign upon sighting the so-called big names and we all know its not just the money after we had 35mil bid turned down for Gotze last time. so my thinking is we will see good names lets all chill

Surely if RVP was to leave we already have a replacement waiting… Podolski? That gives us an extra slot in left midfield if Arshavin leaves and Ryo goes out on loan. I do think Sturridge is a good player, but looked rubbish this season due to lack of game time.

Chamachk for Giroud swap plus cash is a great initative and I hope we can come to an agreement for him if not then I will take up the choice of Lajajic for him instead. Bu tas far as Vertoghen goes tottenham actually tried to sign him not just flirt with his agent with tentative interest. If he comes to Arsenal he will soon admit he made the correct choice and he’s glad he came after a few months becasuse if he is truly reached that higher level of quality then he can challeneg our centre halfs for a place and amke a vital contribution to our team next season. I think we should definitely try to persuade Hazard of first team football and a key fole in our plans nesxt season if we are truthfully that fourth team because a layer of his calibre will help Van Perise’s decision to stay with us. Yann M’villa has had his head turned by Manchester City especially because Yaya has said he wants a new challenge which will leave a great gap in their midfield. I’ve seen Belhnada play i’d rahthe rus get Marvin Martin as his team got relegated and he has a year left on his contract I think he was our original midfield target last transfer window. Sturridge would mature inton a quality complete footballer at Arsenal but he will never in his life be able to replace Van Persie the closest option is Podolski but even he is not as tecnhically gifted as our captain. Bring in Kawaga/Marvin Martin, Yann M’Villa/Capoune, Giroud/Lewdanski?/Hunterlaar, Vertoghen/Sackho, that Norwegian goal keeper as well. Winger options Hazard(praying)/)/Hoillet (is free), Ljajic. Then we need to get rid of Vela, Denilson, Squillaci, Bendnter, Park, Djourou, Chamackh and Almunia. Kalou is not an Arsenal player and will have minimal effect in our team he wouldn’t even start and impact players I’d rather see Chamberlain or Walcott play instead who more direct and better finishers.

Kalou is a multiple Premier League and FA Cup winner, and also a Champions League winner, and you’re all saying no to him on a free transfer? He is no hack, he’s a quality, underrated player. At 26, his best years are ahead of him. He can play on the wing or up front. I would certainly take him as Vela’s replacement. Pay him around 60k a week, it would be 3m well spent. He’s better than Gervinho, better finisher and more direct. Remember we spent that on Park plus his wages and he made one PL appearance… Giroud can come in as Chamakh’s replacement no worries, I think he’d do well, though he has only had one good season. Podolski is probably Bendtner’s replacement. He need a defence splitting midfielder who makes those incisive passes to forward like Csec did. We also need players to shoot when a shot is on! Even if it is out the box! At least Arteta has a ping, like against Man City when an opening presents. As does the Ox. I tire of seeing shooting chances around and outside the box constantly being ignored to try to pass the ball into the net or walk it over the line. M’Vila would be terrific, reasonably confident he’ll be a Gunner before Euro starts. It’d be nice if Song stays, but we get M’Vila and with Wilshere coming back, it wouldn’t be a disaster, as long as he leaves the Premier League. Same with RVP, we’ll get on without it but I just really hope he doesn’t stay in the Premier League. I hear Real are interested, if Robin sets himself on leaving then I’d be selling there instead of City. Robin for Sahin and cash or Robin for Benzema/Higuin. That said, with what his mum and wife have said recently, I think he’ll stay and sign on, particularly if we make a couple of high quality signings in the coming weeks like M’Vila and Giroud. He and his family seem to love life in London and he loves Arsenal and Wenger, I don’t think he’d want to hurt Wenger by signing for City or Chelsea.

Why is everyone on Girouds knob? The hype around him is rediculous. Most people calling for him on here have only seen him on YouTube and never been to watch him. He’s nowhere near as gifted as Sturridge.
M’vila is a great efficient enforcer but Giroud is a french version of Holt and not especially suited to Arsenals style of play.

i love rvp and want him to stay as much as the next person. problem is, our top players like him, nasri and fabregas all had their head turned. but man u etc the players want to stay. last year we fought to keep fabregas and nasri and lost. the same could happen here and it makes us look desperate. why not look at the other option. what if we win the battle and rvp stays, signing a contract extension, then he picks up an injury in the euros or early in the season, we are stuffed. If we sell rvp, then maybe we could send out the message that we are not desperate, and only want top players committed to the cause. We could then invest the money wisely NOW. sell off the deadwood., enabling a better wage structure, sign the likes of giroud, mvilla, dempsey, yossi, etc etc (just using examples). All im saying is last year we fought and lost, and we are again in the same situation. What about next year, the following, and so on. surely arsenal must make a stand.

just throwing something els in the mix. If we get rid of our deadwood and sign the likes of yossi, making a great squad player. What about Joey barton. i know he is a tool, and will be out for the first 12 weeks, but qpr will now sell him on the cheap and would be another strong, no crap player, to use as a squad player, come december/january.

its really depressing to hear that rvp might leave. its even worse to hear the kind of players to potentially replace him. its time to breplace quality with quality. even giroud cant replace him and as a matter of fact we don’t need to spend a fortune to get quality. marvin matins is a free agent now. his team has been relegated. same with rossi, hoillet. kagawa can also come in cheap. why go after overrated scums like ventoghen and hazard. if dey dont want us they should fuck off..

originally would had loved to have signed Vertonghen. But if he would rather choose a mid table club like spurs with no champs league and a manager that is also looking for a better deal for himself, then it shows that he has no ambition, drive or focus for his career. we have enough of those players which we need to out and dont need another.

what are you people talking about..the only player that arsenal needs is a good defensive midfielder…if M´vila is the best in the markt we shold go for him…if Van Persie leaves im sorry but i see wegner sticking with Chamkah and podolski(playing in the leftwing with him) as cover…is not what i want but thats waht arsenal will do…you all know it!

Just 1 question for gazidas + co – why are u paid wages ? Every1 accepts that arsenal fc is a business + has to be run as such to make sure we last …. HOWEVER …. The only Money makin ideas u and ur haf wits have seems to be sellin our best players – y don’t u either do wot ur paid to do – and make money in a way that isn’t detrimental to our club ? Stan wind ur neck in and send this muppet bak to man city were he wants to be . Why pay an a*sehole just to do that ? Other teams find ways of makin money – why can’t we ?

If Van Persie wants to leave we should let him. No point keeping a player, better yet our captain, if he doesn’t want to play for us. And the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. If his career fails, it was his choice

If the deadwoods don’t accept that they have to move on then we shud just forget bout them + have them train by themselves or clean boots or sumfin – they’ve obviously no pride anyway . A footballer has a limited time to develop + play football – if they’re only interested in a crazy paycheque that wenger should never hav agreed to then why have these players around to de-motivate players who actually want to achieve sumfin + be the best they can be . Not every1 works out + sum people still want to prove sumfin – but others have no love or respect for our club + shouldn’t be allowed to wear the shirt – even a training 1 .

Kagawa will go to United.. Hazard will go where the money’s at.. And Vertonghen is clearly a fan of shadows.. If indeed RVP leave I think Olivier Giroud would give us a whole new dimention in terms of him being an out and out target man goal scorer like Mario Gomez.. I’m still under the impression we need AMC, DMC, Defender, CF therefore..

    Christian Eriksen
    Yann M’Vila
    Olivier Giroud
And if the Daniel Alves Rumours are true perhaps Micah Richards may become available?

I c dempsey being a more viable option considering he’s got a year left on his contract and would wish to play for a champions league outfit if u read today edition of goal.com.he will not impede development of the likes of chamberlain, afobe and campbell. He is a proven scorer which is our missing jewel since the great pires left. His versatility is also unquestionable.
Being 29yrs old his price will be around 10 million pounds which will not scare wenger.RVP is bound to stay unless sth crazy happens then loses his head to do a nasri.otherwise he said clearly that Juve will be a step down.I think he will stay with some 150k squids p/w and demonstrate his love for Arsenal, beloved fans in the goonersphere and arsene for sticking with him in His injury prone career.sturridge is selfish with untamed ego.He will disrupt our team.Kalou is a good player and. be a fantastic addition .

I was also angry when Vertonghen chose spuds over us, but we hadn’t even put a bid in. He is still a very good option for us with his versatility. I am also so anti spuds, don’t get me wrong. I believe he thought spuds would make CL. Let’s look at the bigger picture. He is a good player and would be great at Emirates. Can’t write this off. I want him for what he can offer us. If we could get him, M Vila Giroud and CAM, we would be unstoppable next season and RvP would stay. Still believe he will sign.

    @zak
I’ve watched him play on tv only – not live but for me he was mediocre. The lad had 1 decent season.
French league is not as hard as the premier league to score in.
Sturridge has goals at various under 21 international levels since the under 16’s!
and 8 goals in 12 apps in the premier league for Bolton as a main striker. His goals only curtailed after Chelsea stuck him out on the wing where he doesnt like to be.
Even on his return to chelsea, when played as a striker he always scored.
Giroud however has maybe 1 international goal ? And had played at a much lower level.
Its not me whos silly – its people who assume the premier league is easier than the french league!
Giroud cant dribble past people now let alone in the uk where you get even less time on the ball.
I think people are over rating him because they arent so familiar with him over here.

Verthongen just wants to plays football.he came to watch the Milan champions League game courtesy of vermaleen and he has also been to white Hartland and he knows that the atmosphere is awesome at the emirates, And again spurs will struggle to keep their top player due to missing out of CL league football next season and we qualifying gives us the Champions League kitty and arsenal should sign him because that line of defense of vermaleen, kolchieny, vertonghen, martasacker, mbiwa for djouru that’s one he’ll of a defense.

Its a pointless debate anyway because Arsenal are unlikely to buy either player.
We may end up with Kalou only because he’s in the bargain basement and perhaps/hopefully M’vila who we can agree on IS world class.

Arsenal will not buy Giroud as Montpellier do not want Chamach. (in fact other than AKBs and Bordeux no one does).

  81. Realistic

Lets be honest and realisitic here.

If we cant pay Giroud’s 12.6 mill release clause up front, then why are you guys throwing names out there for proven stars to come? Do ppl honestly think they would accept Chamakh and 6mill for Giroud? Prob not. Arsenal are always looking for the cheaper option and most likely are looking for players that are free. I know alot of you are optimistic but just be realistic at the same time. Players must leave the club first in order for others to arrive but Arsenal are having a very hard time doing that since no team wants to take players in that make 60K a week. This summmer is very important, a strong squad is needed for next term because the other top 6 PL teams are upgrading.

i think Sturridge will turn out to be an excellent striker and if we have the chance to sign him we should, however if Van Persie leaves we need a proven ready made replacement as well.
Sturridge needs time to mature and though i believe he will become top class it would be too much pressure on him to expect him to do replace a legend straight away
