Arsenal saved by Petr Cech again – and anyone can win the League!

Fair point. Petr Cech has already rescued more points than our past 4 keepers by KM

Hello fellow Gooners. How are you? I actually enjoyed the point at Stoke. Because you know what a point at Stoke is better than none. I saw a statistics saying that the Champions in previous years have more often than not won at the Britannia but rarely lost, so I’ll take the point.

What I liked is that we were far more organized at the back. The clearances were better, Bellerin and Monreal had a solid game. Up front we lacked Ozil and you could see he was missing. I thought the introduction of Chambo brought up some energy, but it highlighted the difference in the quality of the passes.

We created two good chances which Butland did great to save. Other than that, we had a lot of misplaced passes and the pitch was horrible. In all fairness looked mentally exhausted from the Liverpool game.

And we had a lot to thank Petr Cech, who was simply sublime. He made some important clearances, but the two consecutive saves he made were top class. I can already name a few occasions where he was vital to our points tally.

Overall, we played two difficult away games this week and got two points. I have mixed feelings. We could’ve gotten more, but the results were fair. We are missing Coquelin, Cazorla, Ozil and Sanchez. That’s 4 of our core players.

We are top by goal difference and 5th placed United sit just 7 points behind. It’s ridiculous. It’s anybody’s game. Next up we have Chelsea at home, who are a shadow of a team that won the league last year by a mile. Still under Guus Hidink they haven’t lost I think, despite the fact that Everton fully deserved a victory denied by a John Terry offside goal.

The importance of those 2 games we drew and Chelsea next is that it’s against opposition which we have a mental problem against. We’ll be strong favorites to beat Chelsea and if we fail to do it it’ll be damaging to our title credentials. We really need to win the home games, because we have to travel twice to Manchester and go to Spurs and Everton away too.

It’s really tight, but I hope that Sanchez and Ozil returning, hopefully Le Coq, Welbz and Santi too, will boost our chances, because we will be fresh. It’s unpredictable. Hopefully though despite the tough fixtures, we will make it this time!

Till then, have a nice week!

  1. With the amount of injuries we have I believe we are doing just great, do you think even mighty Barca and survive without their main men? E.g
    Our Messi (Alexis)
    Our Sergio (Le coq)
    Our Rakitic (Santi)
    Our Iniesta (Ozil)
    Our Neymar (Welbeck)
    And others?????
#TopOfTheLeague under such situation is even special achievement believe me we can Only get better. #COYG

  2. Oh How I miss Santi! Cannot stand Ramsey when he starts a full circle with the ball and with his back to the goal. Oh How I miss Santi!

  3. We see what a quality GK can add to a team, at least 4-5 points by now. Imagine if we had a Quality striker like Cavani or a quality midfielder like Vidal (WTF is this El nanny crap).

If Wenger had bought one or two quality outfield players like he did getting a quality GK, in the summer then we would be 6-8 points a

    1. Short memories on here. 6 months ago this site was awash with “Chelsea were on the cusp of a new all-conquering dynasty, Man Utd + LvG + £250M would crush everyone, Liverpool re-born with Benteke, Milner, Ings, Firmino etc, Man City would be unbeatable having splashed another £150M, Arsenal were doomed to a life outside the top 4 with only Cech to show for a summer of spending” etc etc.

The story may change as the season unfolds, but right here, right now, Wenger’s preference for continuity and not being seduced in to spending the dosh appears, on balance, more right by the day. Interesting to note that despite being top of the league, the arguments have now subtly shifted to “we should be winning it by more….blah, blah”.

And please, Cavani? Living in the past if you think he is the answer. 10 goals in a one team league that is 21 points clear at the season halfway point. Bet you wanted Falcao as well.

And let Elneny pull the shirt on and step on the pitch before you ridicule him and start the kiddy word play with his name.

  4. Left this site few years back, it was all about english players, walcott blah bah….and “Foreigners” doesn’t know how to run clubs, when critisizing wenger. And based on what i see here, some ppl are actually happy about where the club stands right now, incase of moving forward, some are ok with not having any debts than actually winning the league and spend more even before, still now. yes wenger did a great job , but now he lacks ambition, so far. Been the same for many years, injuries, february (cursed month for arsenal), we almost ALWAYS reached the top but always stuck in the same level, same old same old, even this season, Even tho i want to be proved wrong by wenger and his team but i think we will messed it up again, even tho this season is like the only season for 10 years that we have an actual chance of winning.
#walcott still can’t dribble after all this years.
Even miyachi was better, if he was given the chance as much as walcott, he will be a good player now. Fact. Cheers.
