Arsenal scouting TWO strikers to replace Giroud

It remains to be seen what happens with the current striker situation at Arsenal, with Olivier Giroud so far having made just four short appearances for the Gunners from the subs bench and Alexis Sanchez looking like a hard man to displace from his new centre forward position.

The big Frenchman’s problems will not get any easier as the season wears on either, with Danny Welbeck due back from his lengthy injury lay off in a couple of months. Giroud’s staute and hold up play may offer something different for Arsenal but his range is much more limited, so unlike Sanchez and Welbeck he cannot do much for us in a wide role.

All this is starting to look bad for Giroud’s future at the club and there are rumours that he could be a transfer target for some other big clubs including Juventus, so maybe Arsene Wenger is already thinking about him leaving in January.

If so it could explain the Arsenal transfer rumours this week linking us with not one but two new strikers. One is the young Porto and Portugal star Andre Silva. According to The Mirror the Portuguese football press has revealed that Arsenal are keen and have been scouting him this season, in which he already has five goals from the first seven league games.

The other striker is a little closer to home and the young French forward Moussa Dembele has been grabbing the headlines of late with some great performances for Scottish champions Celtic, including a brace in their 3-3 champions League draw with Man City and a hat-trick in the old firm win over Rangers.

The Mirror claims we are one of a number of big clubs that have sent scouts to watch this exciting and talented young striker, so is Wenger already lining up a replacement for Giroud?

  1. I thought this “Giroud replacement or back up”things was ended up by Lucas last summer. So, both kids you’ve mention is one for the future.

    1. I disagree.. Dembele was filthy in the championship last season and has been scoring for fun with Celtic, and in big time games too. I was disappointed we didn’t go in harder for him last window. The kid’s the real deal IMO

  2. You do realize that as soon as you say “according to The Mirror”, your article loses all credibility, right? So just stop it with these ridiculous rumors. I already said yesterday that there’s no way Giroud is going anywhere, especially to Juve, and certainly not in January. Juve have Higuain, Dybala, and Mandzukic (who’s a very similar striker type to Giroud). We have Sanchez, Walcott, Welbeck, and Lucas. Welbz is out for another 3 months or so, and will probably need another 3 to get back in form. Lucas obviously has yet to prove that he can lead our line, and needs more playing time, so I can see him been used in FA/EFL cup games. Walcott finally realized that he’s not a striker, and performing extremely well in a familiar winger role. So that leaves us with Sanchez, who’s playing well in recent games, but who is yet to prove (for me at least) that he can be our main striker in every game. He may disappear at times, or get injured, or anything else, and that’s when we’ll need to call upon our reliable Ollie. No matter what people say and think, he can be a very useful option off the bench, or even starting in certain games. He can score, he can provide, his hold up is second to none, his aerial abilities are amazing, and he’s just an overall hard working guy, and a team player. He started for France, and didn’t do too bad for crying out loud. So leave Giroud alone, and let’s concentrate on something else. Perhaps next time check out BBC, or Sky Sports, and stay away from Sun, Mirror, and other similar garbage.
