Arsenal set to seal deal for brilliant defender

While this news will be welcomed with open arms by just about every Arsenal fan on the planet, it might not go down too well with the family and friends of a certain Mister Kieran Gibbs, because the England international is having a hell of a job getting a game for the Arsenal first team ahead of his Spanish team mate Nacho Monreal.

So the news reported by Sky Sports that the Super Spaniard is set to sign his name on a new Arsenal contract to keep him at the club for another three years means that Gibbs will really have to do something special if he wants to get the regular game time he needs to challenge the likes of Leighton Baines and Luke Shaw for the England team under Roy Hodgson.

To be fair to Gibbs, he has not done a lot wrong and once again yesterday he played really well when given the chance in the FA cup match against Sunderland. But Monreal has been pretty much flawless for the last year or so and at 29-years old it is great news that he will be staying with the Gunners, especially as there have been a number of Arsenal transfer rumours claiming that he might be leaving to go back to La Liga.

I wonder if Gibbs has been talking to the press?

    1. Monreal really put his head down and worked hard to keep his position in the Arsenal squad last year and ever since he has made the left back position his own. This time two years ago he was considered a bit of a liability and now look at him. I hope we see other players develop like that over the next couple of seasons like Welbeck, Ox, Gabriel and elneny too maybe 🙂

  1. Nacho Montreal has been crucial for arsenal in that left back position, he is one of the best left backs in the league and is very much underrated! His new contract is very much justify! Coyg!

  2. Love that nacho resigned with us we have such a great back 5 whose qualities compliment each other. Wenger did a good job with those 5 and 6 counting coquelin.

I thought gibbs was very good again today im very happy he’s had 2 consecutive solid games.

    Onwards and upwards boys!

  3. I never worry about the left back position anymore, Monreal and Gibbs are both capable of playing very well there. If I had a worry about a defensive position it would be right back. If Bellerin gets injured/fatigued (which he will as wenger plays him every game), then we dont have a much backup considering Debuchy has no form, fitness or match sharpness. And if he leaved we need a decent right back because its an important position when you come up against top teams

  4. You do realise that people are going to read these articles anyway? Your headline could have just been ‘Monreal to sign new deal’ and I would have clicked on it to read more. Clickbait is just embarrassing.

    1. Oh, and great news about Monreal. He’s gone from a decent substitute to being one of the first names on the teamsheet. One of the most reliably excellent defenders in the league and should be a given in his position for league team of the season. Really glad to have him at the club.

  5. That is another Arsenal English international who seem to be regressing…add Gibbs to Wilshire,Ox,Chambers and you have a whole bunch of very good prospects who just seem to stagnate…oh,Walcott too….compare them to Kane, Dier,Barkley,Mason,Stone,Alli etc annd you begin to wonder

  6. For all those fans who feel that we are wasted our time over a “click bait” article, I can only suggest to look for the tags. The tags always do the work for me if I have to avoid reading any article for saving time. After that, its your choice.
