Arsenal should move quickly to beat Everton to proven defender

Everton are believed to be on the verge of signing Ashley Williams from Swansea, to replace the departed John Stones who joined Manchester City.

The England defender became a British record defensive signing this week, after moving to the Etihad for a reported £47.6 Million, and Everton are now looking to land their replacement target.

Ashley Williams is claimed to be en route for a medical today having agreed a £12 Million fee for his signature, but Arsenal have been linked with the Welsh international previously, and are desperate to bring in a centre-back at present.

Williams has proven to be one of the cleverest defenders in the Premier League in recent seasons, and would be a top addition to our title bid this season.

The centre-back is a little on the old side in reality, but he has been improving year-on-year for Swansea City, and I believe he could play on for another four years easily.

We are currently considering the prospect of having to play inexperienced pair Rob Holding and Calum Chambers against Liverpool at the weekend, after losing Per Mertesacker to injury for the next five months, as well as Gabriel falling foul of injury at the weekend, and with Koscielny yet to return from an extended break.

We are said to be keen on bringing in a defender in time for the weekend’s match, with Jonny Evans (who no Gunner wants to see in our famous red) and Shkodran Mustafi, who has impressed over the past few seasons.

Is our club missing a trick with the likes of Ashley Williams and Mahrez, who is believed to have held talks with Chelsea yesterday?

  1. Arsenal never move quickly when it comes to transfers but with other clubs like Chelsea,Man City it’s a matter of days then you find they’ve signed a player

  2. Sounds to me like he is 95% an Everton player
    EVERTON CLOSE ON WILLIAMS

Everton have wasted little time in strengthening their central defence after agreeing a £12m deal with Swansea for their captain Ashley Williams.

The 31-year old defender, who skippered Wales during their successful Euros campaign in France over the summer, said his goodbyes at the club’s training ground this morning.

He’s expected to travel to Merseyside later this afternoon to carry out a medical ahead of signing a two-year deal. Source ( Sky Sports )

    1. Nah, his injured and likely to stay at Lyon, who have offered him a new bumper contract.
Bony was mentioned in a deal involving Stone and also Benteke was rumoured.
Chelsea were supposedly willing to offer Remy plus cash for Lukaku.

  3. i am sure wenger is going to come out and criticize city for paying such an amount for a defender 😛

    1. I actually don’t mind if Wenger decides not to pay over the odds for a player but it’s irritating when he gets into other people’s business, so what if they pay 300 million pounds for a 12 year old goalkeeper? To each one his own. Parrots talk a lot, Eagles not as much but we all know which one represents strength.

  4. Arsenal are reportedly closing in on Mustafi, well, they have put in an official bid, for real this time lol
Mahrez wants Arsenal, but I doubt that Wenger really wants him.

  5. People ask me why I support arsenal? I have no idea anyway. I just love my club. All my hope is that Wenger will fall sick and retire oneday. It has surely come to that. Anyone who still believes in Wenger does not love arsenal.

Inter Milan just fired their couch and hired new one. But arsenal is afraid of change . The fans in London are as weak as anything on this earth. Until you guys in London do something, ,,,,,,,,the likes of west ham and co will pin us to the ground.

    1. You can predict that, as miserable fans have been doing every single year. But that the fact is that that even though Wenger just bought Cech last summer, we still finished second.
Where were all the other teams that spent fortunes?
We have LOTS of promising youngsters coming through, why stifle them when we are doing so well?

  6. lets be honest, we finished second last season by luck..

the spuds imploded at the end, i can’t see that happening this year.
moronio thought he was bigger than chelsea, and caused their issue4s, that won’t happen this year
van gaal was terrible with nom tactics, and lost the changing room that won’t happen this year with united,
man city stopped playing when it was announced guardiola was going to be the next manager..

so wet people say we finished second, it was a great position, but don’t be lulled into a false sense of security, we finished second as we were not quite as crap as the others… last year was our best chance to win the premiership… without investment, and a CB and striker, we will not finish in the top 3 this year

    1. We came second by luck? Ok if its so easy to get lucky, the maybe the others should try get lucky too then lol.

  7. the oldest dead wood needs to leave arsenal, lets even forget about transfers, this man cant make right subs, terrible formations, hates campbell, madlly in love with ramsey dat his ready to destroy the team for his love affair with ramsey, hmmm God help arsenal

  8. To Late he gone. While WENGER was counting the Penny’s in his Pocket Man City moved in and snapped him up.

  9. Invest on new manager and CEO. That is the only change we need, the rest will be better after that.
