Arsenal star CAN win Ballon D´Or….next year

It is a fair reward for how well the Arsenal and Chile forward has taken the English Premier League by storm since signing from Barcelona last summer that the name of Alexis Sanchez is among the 23 players from the world of football that have made the shortlist for the FIFA Ballon D´Or awarded to the best player for the calendar year.

This year´s prize will probably go to either Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi again, with the Argentinean perhaps the favourite after he fired Barcelona to the treble of La Liga, Champions League and Copa Del Rey. It is not always the case, but the award usually goes to a player whose team has won at least one major trophy.

The Arsenal striker does fit into that category, having helped the Gunners to a second FA cup in a row and inspiring Chile to a first ever Copa America triumph, but I suspect that Alexis will not be picking up the giant golden ball this time.

After all he was not even voted as the best player in the Premier League and I think he would need to manage that this season in order to stand a real chance next time. However, I believe he has what it takes to do that and if he can lead Arsenal to the EPL title at the same time then he would be seen as a real contender.

It is not as if the Chilean needs a kick up the bum to perform but could the lure of the Ballon D´Or inspire Alexis on to even greater things?

  1. Copa America is a very, very big trophy.. Especially if you’re not playing for Argentina or Brazil.
Though Messi and Ronaldo are simply on another level.

  2. On a side note where’s the big-fella ChampagneCharlie?? Has anyone seen or heard from him??
I do recall him calling me and Budd out after the Olympiakos game for being ‘numpties’ for showing optimism in this squad. Particularly in regards to Mesut, Theo, Giroud and Le Coq…
Cummon Charlie!! Celebrations are in order!!

    1. Naw let him stay in his hole we don’t want fans like him. Let us fans who truly support the team through good times and bad enjoy this win together we don’t want any negative energy right now.

    2. Haha ! To be fair I expect he’s got his head in a football book busy knowing more about football than tony Adams and Graeme souness

    3. Same goes to k ool.
Ever since giroud stated scoring vs big teams. …hahaha
Hey its nice to have em all here….diversity and stuff

  3. That win felt so good last night that I genuinely didn’t give a crap when my mrs told me off for waking the kids up ! Hehe

  4. I’m sure if Sanchez was to slip a few hundred grand under the table, Fifa will award him with the Ballon D’ Or this year!
    ??

  5. I can really get used to this now
    > Man U/Watford didn’t concede more than 2 in a game before they met us
    > Bayern/Leicester didn’t loose a game till they met us
    Who’s next??????

  6. (Often criticised – never credited) Well done AW!!!
    > Spot on tactics (make sure dont loose game in 1st half and anything can happen(& it did!!!)
    > Play direct from the free kick and anything can happen(and it did!!!)
    > Bring in Giroud at right time (and that payed off well)

  7. if we are beating Bayern by not playing so well mind it we were never out of 3rd gear imagine when the team gels perfectly and we hit6th gear what would we do to teams, for now we can just dream , Ramsey shouldnt be out for long
we need his presence in the team

  8. The one individual that I feels most deserved an award is the man Arsene Wenger himself. I hope he gets his EPL crown back or CL for once. The man deserve it after the most difficult, painful decade for both Arsenal and the fans. Wenger will only crown the Manager of the year if he wins the EPL or CL. Come one Wenger!

    1. Whats important is for us to be on top at the end of the last game…For now all we should focus on is getting maximum points from our games…

  9. I was sooooo HAPPY with last nit result(still am).
    What i learnt.
Ozil is never lasy pple. who could av tot Ozil will b the player running onto d Speedy Hector’s pass at 90min.
Giroud’s hold up play worked bcos(i think) Alaba already got tired keeping up wt Theo’s pace nd Vidal was out of the game.
Wenger played is card so right.
WE R BACK IN THIS TOURNAMENT.

  10. After the champions league final between Barcelona and Juventus I said that Vidal was overrated and cannot turn up in big matches. In that game he could have been given two red cards for reckless challenges. In the Chille game against Venezuela I think, Vidal was nowhere in the match. Instead he was giving the ball away time after time until his substitution. Last night he did pretty nothing till substituted. That explains why he was sold for a paltry 25 million pounds and Arsenal did not go for him.
