Arsenal star under BIG pressure to shine today

It was brilliant for us all to watch Arsenal take apart the French Ligue 1 runners up yesterday, continuing the free scoring pre-season preparations with six unanswered goals. But it might not have been quite so enjoyable for the England international midfielder Jack Wilshere.

The 23-year old was not even on the subs bench yesterday, with the boss going for the Welshman Aaron Ramsey alongside Francis Coquelin in the centre from the start and then replacing him with our Spanish magician Santi Cazorla after about an hour.

The fact that both of his main rivals for the coveted box-to-box role played well and scored may be good news for the club but it does not help Jack in his hopes of a regular starting role. The manager did say after the game, however, that Wilshere was just being rested and would play against Wolfsburg today but he is now under even more pressure to put in a brilliant performance.

The competition for places is fierce and that can only be good for the Gunners in general but I feel that Jack needs to be playing all the time for him to hit top form and if Ramsey and Cazorla continue to play as they did yesterday, how is the young Englishman going to get that sort of game time?

  1. He is already a proven talent and just needs to have a run without injury and perhaps apply himself I lttle more. Been brilliant for England and I really think it’s his best position playing a little deeper.
    Peace and Love

    1. Insignificant?
Historically, it’s one of the most famous cups in history. The winner plays in the Community Shield, gets a open bus top parade and gets money as well.

Also look at the faces of Ozil, Cazorla, Alexis and all the other players during the FA Cup presentation. They all had huge smiles. So it is meaningful to them.

If Chelsea players can be happy and smiling with the League Cup they must think it’s meaningful too. And that’s a lesser cup than the FA Cup

So it is far from meaningless

  2. Wilshire struggles to play 2 games a week, coquelin and cazorla won’t play every match either, to be fair if coquelin, cazorla wilshire Ramsey ozil and rosicky were rotated around the 3 central positions and welbeck chamberlain Walcott alexis around the two wide berths I would be more than happy with that. We just need someone to rotate with giroud.

OK I know that players like arteta bielik, hayden, zelalem, toral, campbell akpom Wellington iwobi and reine-adelaide could also be in those groups, but let’s face it those are the main men and will take some shifting.

  3. Am really looking forward to seeing bielik get some playing time today he is a star d/m in the making probably will male the first team sometime this year also zelalem seeing what he can do in a big game like this should be ace

  4. We need another DM or a talented b2b who is good in defense. We don’t need a b2b player as we have Ramsey Cazorla, Rosicky, Wilshere, Ox but it may be a decent compromise if he is very good at tackling, winning back balls, playing across the field, linking defense to offense etc

As commented above Coquelin can’t play every match, Wilshere is a bit fragile and not great defensively. Chambers and Bielik need more experience and Arteta/Flamini can play the odd match and subbed, but if Coquelin is injured I don’t trust them as a long term solution

Carvalho, Bendtner, Krychowiak, Vidal, Gustavo, Martinez, are possible solutions

  5. If anyone wants to watch the match he can go to this site atdhe.ru and watch it.There are many links there.I pray jack wilshere goes back to his old self by staying away from these injuries and by being consistent. Its a pity because he part of arsenal’s best players when in form and i will take him over anyone anyday. He has potential more than a lot of players here and at 19 years he was making headlines.I want the Wilshere who tore Barca apart to come back again.

  6. Dunno why fans see Jack as an alternative DM, he’s not! Don’t get fooled by that flash he had for the National Team. Anyway, I do hope he get a game today and show us he’s on same par with Ramsey or Cazorla, else relegate him to the wings. No offense.

    1. Playing well today won’t prove anything. Even if it were Barcleona in a preseason and he played well it wouldn’t mean anything, because it’s pre season. You can only show how fit you are in pre season because that is what it’s for.

Sanogo scored 4 goals v Benfica last pre season, he couldn’t manage that in the whole of the last season afterwards.

  7. off topic. Can anyone tell me whats going on with Serge Gnabry. Why isnt he part of our pre season squad. Last I heard he was fully fit. Where is he?

  8. A world class striker to put Giroud on his toes, a DM similar to Le Coq and we’re okay. Everybody seems to have forgotten that we have a certain superstar called Sanchez. I think that’s healthy for us because it only shows that we have real depth in the squad. I was optimistic last season but my state of mind is much more positive this time around. Just Cech us out!
