Arsenal step up transfer pursuit of number 1 summer target

I’m not sure if it was just me putting two and two together to get five, but during the Arsenal press conference ahead of the away game at West Ham last weekend it looked very much like Arsene Wenger was trying to hide a smile or a smirk when he was asked specific questions about the reported transfer target Granit Xhaka.

There have already been plenty of Arsenal transfer rumours in the football press linking us with the Switzerland international and now The Mirror is reporting that the Gunners are definitely going for the talented young midfielder in the summer.

In fact the report claims that we are already some way towards sealing the deal for the 23-year old star and have now stepped up the efforts to sign him from his current club. The news from Germany is that the Bundesliga club Borussia Monchengladbach are digging their heels in over the price, as they think they can get over £30 million for their top player, but Arsenal are confident of completing the transfer.

With all the injury issues the Arsenal midfield have suffered yet again this season, with key Gunners like Cazorla, Ramsey, Wilshere, Rosicky and Coquelin missing big chunks of the campaign, that area of the pitch has been a major problem for Wenger. So it is hardly surprising to see a midfielder as the priority transfer target for the manager.

Is Xhaka the right man for us do you think?

  1. I can’t wait for that day we win the league again…..

Are we gonna do it under Wenger? I don’t know… I wish we can do it with Him but after failing to win it season after season’ I don’t know if that’s possible..

I have lost the vibe and energy I had when the season started… In one of my post, I said if we have a great 2nd half of the season like we did last season’ then we’ll win the league. Too bad, we had a poor 2nd half of the season…

Still a gunner, but gutted to be trailing behind Leicester and Tottenham at the moment. They deserve to be ahead of us *truth be told*…

    Onward and Upwards….Gunners for life!

    1. True many of us are not Christians , I am from Ghana and i believe I am a Christian even though people disregard the strength of my believe . But for a while now , I do my best to tell friends to avoid countries like usa & australia and stop buying from company like nike etc, no matter how insignificant they might think of the value of their purchase. If u think you alone can not make a difference its a sin as a christian. LITTLE DROPS OF WATER MAKES A MIGHTY OCEAN , YOU AT YOUR HOME, WORK READING THIS TEXTS PLEASE PLEASE TAKE YOUR BUSINESS (EVEN IF ITS A PENNY) AWAY FROM OPENLY CHRISTIAN OPPRESSIVE COMPANIES LIKE (NIKE, NFL, PAY PAL, INCLUDING OUR ARSENAL CEO and maybe ozil EC.) THANK YOU AND MAY GOD STRENGTHEN YOU, AMEN.

      1. Manny Pacquiao in 2015 was the second highest paid athlete in the WORLD. Nike was closely associated with him, so when he made that outrageous statement hating on homosexuals, I think Nike (from a business perspective) made the right choice. I don’t mind what people believe, as long as they keep it to themselves without slandering or abusing others.

      1. Hahaha… Don’t worry mate. ..
he will be added to Wenger’s ” I nearly signed” list!
solely because Wenger’s offer is £10 million under Xhaka’s valuation ???

    2. and what is CazorlaPogba blabbering bout?

What’s with the whole faith talk and how does it affect matters arising?

  2. Granit Xhaka is good transfer and if it is true then it will be good for the club. His height is useful commodity in the midfield which will help in retention and distribution.
Reports state that Neymar earns only 77000 £ per match and thinking about Walcott and Wilshere who earn 100 is beyond me.

    1. Whoot? Barkley is bang average and Stones has been garbage this season. Why would anyone want to pay multiple millions for more average English players when we already have ton of them?

  3. when has wenger buy any player before the transfer date…this will go to a very long boring process in which v will b frustrated !!
plus god v want a world class striker please !

  4. No offence to the English but you guys are letting Wenger and the Board get away with murder, yes they have murdered the once great Arsenal. Ok look, if Wenger did this nonsense in South Africa what would happen is he would get hit on the head with a coke bottle while trying to do his usual 70 min transfer. Then on the way home he’d get the feeling that someone was following him not knowing that a fan aged 60 had cashed in his retirement annuity and bribed the security at his mansion to grant him access. I dnt want to explain wat would happen next 4 the sensitive ppl here but there next day Wenger would publicly announce that he is going all out for ibrahimovic, xhaka and Hummel no matter what. I’m just saying…

  5. Every time I hear Ian Wright he strikes me as a person that wants Wenger out badly, but during his punditry he words it in a way where it’s both harshly honest but at the same time respectful. We both agree on 1 thing for sure and that after the defense he played with in his time, Gabriel is “NOT” the answer…

  6. Arsenal never step up a pursuit of anyone, give us a break, we all know next season Wilshere, Chamberlain and Arteta will be fit and will all be like new signings and we need keep Cohesion. Don’t act like you don’t know this already.

  7. Soon u gonna only gays playing football nd its gonna be wayy boring than a tortoise race ..

ADMIN COMMENT … I’m sorry mate. I respect your beliefs but dont spout them here. We are all Arsenal fans so don’t mention religion again. especially if you are anti freedom and homophobic…. One more and you are banned.

      1. @ admin let the nut comment. need some comedy after a depressing week! throw him out next week…

    1. well even if you arent homophobic.. if you care more about the future of entertainment esp football, which basically is just.. a game.. (i know there are a lot of hardcore fans in the world, and let me tell you i love football and love arsenal even more but lets be honest, its just a game) than the rights of human called human rights if you havent heard of it and the freedom of people, then there is something fundamentally wrong with you and your belief, like with the most people on this world who go on babbling about conservative sh$%
