Arsenal tipped to land Man United outcast

Steve Nicol has tipped Arsenal to land Chris Smalling from Manchester United this summer.

The defender has fallen further down the pecking order at Old Trafford this week following the arrival of Victor Lindelof from Benfica for £30.7 Million, and is now tipped to head to the exit door.

Smalling is linked with a move to Arsenal, West Ham or Tottenham currently, while the Gunners are believed to have missed out on his signature previously.

Smalling left Fulham to join the Red Devils, and is believed to have chosen United over a move to the Emirates, but he may now find himself making that move this season.

Steve Nicol, a former Liverpool defender, has claimed that he believed he will move to North-London, but that fans may not be too happy with the decision.

Nicol said: “If I am an Arsenal fan, I’d be asking, are we a place for Manchester United’s cast offs?

“Let’s be honest, that’s not to be harsh on Smalling and Welbeck, it’s just a fact.

“I see this happening because Arsenal need centre-halves. They have injury problems. I think Smalling will end up at Arsenal.”

Smalling has been a regular in the United side since joining from West London, but has been up-and-down in people’s judgements, and he now seems to have fallen out of favour with United boss Jose Mourinho.

Since the Portuguese tactician took over last summer, he has spent £60+ Million on a new centre-back pairing of Eric Bailly and Lindelof, while Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones also find themselves hoping to play in a central role next term.

Smalling most certainly looks set to leave his club, but is he good enough to be a first-team regular? Is he better than Holding, Mustafi, Gabriel or Chambers?

Smalling and Gabriel don’t have composer, they panic when under pressure. Bad decision by Arsenal

Top Gooner!. Agree or not?: Thumb up 20 Thumb down 2

Is there still a player on earth we are not linked with? oh wait! no body mentioned us buying Ronaldo!! this is very weird… I am sorry if i am a pessimistic fan these days. its really not my fault, I lost all faith in our board and coach. I really hope they prove me wrong this year but the signs are against that.

Setting up unrealistic transfer targets that we neither really need nor we will ever sign. On the other hand, the good news for me is that i am still in my late 30’s, so if i am lucky i will live to see a new coach and board or they might give me a heart attack before that hehehehe

yes we take Man U garbage, always did that.. so this is not new, let him come, just like Sylvester, and we give them class players like Van Persie to win them the league. let’s do it again, take the flop. If he was that good he would be fighting for his place with Bailly and the new guy, but we are the dump. we just grab them

Playing 3 at the back – which Wenger left until April – means Mertesecker should be retained. Forget the fact he is over 30 !! So we sell Gabriel, Yes ? No, wait …. Wenger bought Gabriel and Wenger cannot be wrong.

1St choice back 3 for me would be
    Mustafi Mertesacker Koscielny
    2nd choice
    Chambers Holding Gabriel
We also have Monreal kolasinac Bielik pleguezuelo sheaf and even coquelin that could play there.

I don’t see any reason to strengthen the back 3 this summer. However the 2 in front of the back 3 need to be stronger. Hopefully xhaka will continue his end of season form, but we still need a beast in the middle for certain matches. Then change it up with players like elneny, wilshire ramsey, cazorla when needed.

I rate Smalling as a good reliable CB

He wouldn’t be like Silvestre signing

Smalling is a decent CB, nothing more, he is error prone and lacks composure. He is merely a more physically imposing Gabriel. If we are to sign a centre back then it should be a top quality centre back like Manolas or someone who will soon be a top centre back e.g. Jonathan Tah

Smalling abviously a reject ,meguiel would’ve been better than Smalling if he ever stayed, best defender that Wenger refused to bring in included eldweirld from Netherlands ,jegiek and defensive midfielder wanyama . Imagine if we had this guy’s ,may be we would have conceded only eight goals
