Arsenal to forget about Mbappe transfer? And focus on?

It was always going to be a long shot, with the Monaco and France international striker Kylian Mbappe being one of the most sought after young players in football right now, but going by the reports in the press Arsenal were in the mix.

It may even have been down to just us and the Spanish champions Real Madrid, along with the possibility that the 18-year old forward may choose to stay with his current club for the time being and continue to develop with the coaching staff that have got him this far.

That is now looking unlikely and so is a transfer to north London and the English Premier League, with Metro reporting that Mbappe has held talks with Monaco and has made it clear that Real Madrid is the only club he wants to move to.

If this is true it is a bit of a blow for Arsenal and Arsene Wenger but, as I say, it was always a long shot. At least this particular transfer chase is out of the way quickly and hopefully this will allow the boss to fully focus on signing the players who will strengthen the Arsenal side for next season.

Who will that be Gooners? Lacazette? Mahrez?

  1. Only Auboumeyang is the only top striker that will convince me that we are ready. I wont mind if we spend 70m on him. Apart from him,

    1. True, I believe Aubameyang is the only striker that will give Arsenal an immediate impact, due to his stature, pace, heading and finishing. I believe strikers like Lacazette and Mbappe are not suitable for Arsenal’s current football style.

Too bad Arsenal did not get Patrik Schick, he could be our new Van Persie. Now it seems Arsenal will lose Jean Seri as well (to Roma). Apparently Arsenal will go back to their initial target, Pablo Fornals.

Or maybe they are trying to get more physical players like Kolasinac, instead of getting tempo dictator like Cazorla. Whoever their targets are, I hope they will move faster, otherwise we will get last minute buy like Perez again.

  2. I dont see other strikers improving us much. Lacazette? If he cannot displace Giroud in the national team, why would his signing improve us.

    1. It’s not Giroud that Lacazette cannot displace in the France team, it’s Griezmann, and now Mbappe. France play with two up top, the classic big man, small man routine. Giroud being the big man, and the rest playing along side him.

I would take Lacazette over Giroud, because he would suit Wenger’s style of play better, not to mention the amount of goals he gets. It just doesn’t really work with Giroud. My first choice would be Aubameyang though.

    2. He can’t get in the national team ahead off Giroud cause off France’s style off play and the talent they have on the wings to cross into the box. Lacazette would be a great signing for us however Aubamayang has to be our 1st choice

  3. 1st of all Mahrez is not a striker, Aubameyang would be the best option, but by January 2019 he may be off again for African cup, i want arsenal to turn attention to Ousame Dembele of Dortmund, i doubt if Dortmond would sell both Auba and Dembele to Arsenal. If Arseanal manage to keep Sanchez , Ox, and Ozil with these additional options we would still be solid
I have 4 options. Please kindly choose which options that would improve us Most next season , and the one that will win us the Title again? Provided we are willing to spend big
    1. Aubamenyang and Dembele
    2. Aubamenyang and Mahrez
    3. Lacazette and Dembele
    4. Lacazette and Mahrez

  4. Right thing to do! As good as Mbappe is spending almost all pur budget on a worldbeater of a kid is something Arsenal can’t afford not when they have to reinforce in 3 arguably 4 positions.
My view on this is get Aubameyang who gives height, pure pace, strenght and clinic finish.
Get a winger Mahrez, Douglas Costa or even Julian Brandt at Leverkusen. Sonebody who can create and provide pace and crosses: a specialist. Something we are clearly lacking!!
Finally we may need a midfielder with Cazorla and Wilshere both injured and you just don’t know will they ever be able to complete a season without suffering an injury that could derail both there, Wenger (plans) and the club campaign for there lack of reliability. Bottom line is bringing a guy in there be it a Renato Sanchez, Goretzka, Danilo or a James depending on the needs may be much more effective.
I would personnally take 3 players out of what I just presented, one in each position instead of putting in all on one player for who seems Madrid bound if not now in the next 3 years anyways…

  5. There’s more money coming in, yet none going out.
Arsenal have signed a partnership with Universal Pictures, which will see them help promote several upcoming films.
?? At least it will make a nice change from watching the same old ?? year In, year out.
It would be hilarious if they did a remake of GroundHog Day ?? imagine that being advertised at the Emirates ??

  6. The kid clearly wants to head to Madrid. No one can really blame him for this.

Plenty other players that can come in and improve Arsenal. ST might be a priority but we can not overlook other equally important sections. I thought us finishing 5th would trigger the much needed overhaul of the squad but to date we are far from it.

  7. Were we ever seriously after him? No.

Anyone that is upset at surprised at this so called news needs to get their selves checked out for mental illness.

You really think old man Scrooge was going to fork out 135 million for a kid? He offered 40 million for Suarez – wouldn’t go any higher – but will spend 135 million on a kid?

    Okaaay……..

  8. Junior Kabananga from FC Astana?
He scored stunning 11 goals and has four assists as well.
He is a bit old, but a proper Arsenal kinda striker. He surely knows EL very well.

  9. Wenger is cheating the supporters. He will say he had bid for Lacazette and Mbappe and he’s lying. The manager of Lyon has said as much. He knows he cannot get them. He will buy three rubbish players at 10.30 on transfer deadline day. So far he has got a freebie. What a total Dodo. The man is so anal he just will not splash the cash. He is definitely I’ll in his mind to me. He just cannot spend. How did the board re-sign him???

    1. Lyon manager?
      Aulas (not the manager but owner, like Silent Stan but more passionate about his club) said;

“Alexandre Lacazette was told he could leave,” Aulas said. “We had negotiations with Atletico. Things did not work out. We now have a very nice offer from Arsenal.”

      1. “Alexandre could leave the club but things went wrong with Atletico. For us, he is with Lyon. Today, I haven’t got any other offers for Alexandre Lacazette. I don’t know if he wants to leave.”
This is the true statement Midkemma.

  10. A striker, an attacker, a CM and a defender. Auba, Mahrez, Arda Turan and De Virj. My preferred singings. Other options… Lacazette, Dembele, Goretzka and Simon Schaar. Unrealistic buys… Mpappe (astounding price tag), Carassco (Atletico in under a ban), Isco (now getting his dream playing time, no longer pushing for a move), van dijk (too expensive).

    1. AM can not SIGN players, afaik they can still sell players, kinda why they Griezmann was offered double his wages to keep him after they found out they couldn’t buy any replacement.

Mahrez is alright but I would prefer Lemar from Monaco, he wants to join us and looks like a better player, can score and assist 14 of each in the season just gone. Mahrez got what.. 12 goals and 5 assists?

Arda would be a bench warmer and appears to be disruptive, he has also taken the p*ss out of AFC in the past so no thank you.

De Virj would be a waste of money, we do not need a CB as much as new attackers, we had a 50% clean sheet ratio after the formation change and the players was learning the formation as they go… Our def is not as bad as the media makes out, we had a real bad period after Cazorla got injured and before we swapped formation and that is where the bad def reputation comes from for the season just gone. The loss of Cazorla, a CM, that is what hurt our team defensively, not a CB being non league standards… Do not forget that prior to Cazorla being injured the CB partnership of Mustafi and Kos had a 50% clean sheet ratio and that was in the 4 man def, not 3CBs.

Auba, Mahrez, Arda and De Virj are not CMs.. you said we need one yet fail to name one.

Oh and MBappe may appear to be unrealistic to you, I will say I read a post on this site somewhere which talked about merchandise for the players and that made me think, shirt sales earns a bucket for players who truely excite the fans. If Pogba can turn his record transfer into profit from shirt sales alone then the massive transfer fee will be somewhat countered by the sales it will generate.

If signing MBappe shown Alexis we are serious and gets him to sign then that is added value for AFC and can kinda balance the cash spent with increase to assets at club…

More to business than Football Manager.

  11. Mahrez is not a striker
Lacazette is probably our most realistic signing

Wish we could have Greizmann, Aubemeyang, Lukaku, Lewandowski but they are not realistic signings. We can make bids but highly unlikely they will come.

The best case scenario really is keeping Alexis and getting both Lacazette and Mahrez.

    1. Why Mahrez over Lemar?
From reports Lemar would cost less as well, IMO better, cheaper and younger.

  12. I would go for Javier Hernandez. The guy still has it in him. He’s also better than Giroud and Welbeck as he’s more reliable and can finish.Arsenal just need a striker who can consistently finish off the chances. He’s also very fast and has good dribbling abilities.Just look at how he destroyed Portugal yesterday.I would urge all of you to take a close look at him if you think he’s rubbish. We’ve just lacked a consistent clinical and reliable striker. It’s not even about world class.

    1. Giroud played around 600 mins less and he scored 1 more, I would pick Giroud for the goals.
Can finish? Giroud is 5% more accurate in his shots.

Meh, Chicharito isn’t bad but not what AFC needs.
      IMO Giroud is better.

  13. Metro reported that story based on a story from a Madrid paper… We all know how Spanish clubs try to get top players, they tell the media to make up the stories to try and make them happen.

MBappe deal will be done when it is done, I do not think we should pay too much attention to the MSM regarding this, wait till it is reported to be done one way or the other.

RM might get him, Monaco might decide to sell to us instead as RM are not offering enough up front…

MBappe might choose AFC over RM after thinking about how other top talent has gone to RM and dropped off the scene.

MBappe might decide PSG to stay in France and not risk a new league in such an important year…

    We do not know.

As such I hope we do try for him but go all in for Lacazette now so we are not left looking like idiots if we fail with MBappe.

  14. We will get mbappe. wenger REALLY seem to want him. With his stubbornness, he may even bid 200M 😀 😀 😀
I hope it happens so. We will never be called a penny pinching club again and will be respected for outbidding Real madrid. Who doesn’t want that???

  15. If u believe AW & AFC made a. £87m bid. Then you should believe people are living in Mars. L’Equipe sold the dummy and every Bob the bloggers and Tom the tweeters fall in line. AW knew Mbappe won’t be sold and he has made his remarks, except you want the propagandists(the sun etc) to build you castle in the Air.
