Arsenal to surprise Monaco with Alexis role?

Wenger Must Play Sanchez in Front of Goal by Majekadega

This is not to make light of Ozil’s assists and contribution for Arsenal. However, I want to draw the attention of the fans to the fact that since Ozil’s return from injury which has forced Sanchez back to the wing, the Chilean´s goal scoring has dropped drastically. I believe it is easier for Sanchez to attack the goal from the “hole” than from making the “long journey” from the wing. I am not saying he should play as the main striker. However, he could be one of two strikers in a 4-4-2 formation. Wenger has to come up with something to surprise Monaco for part of the game and get a goal or two before they can figure out how to cope with it. These are difficult times that call for unorthodox tactical permutations.

Alexis Sanchez is one of the few, if not the only one, among Arsenal’s players who remember that shooting at goal is one of the many ways to score a goal in a match. No other person in the attacking formation shoots as much as Sanchez. Sanchez probably shoots more than all the other attackers combined and he scores from his shots. Wenger must move him from the wing and bring him into the front of Monaco´s goal. This would give the defenders and goalkeeper something to worry about because Sanchez represents “present and immediate danger to any defense”.

With his excellent dribbling skills and ability to draw more than one defender, playing him in front of goal increases our chances for free kicks, penalties and rebounds. This will also give the players on the wings more room to attack as Sanchez playing in front of the Monaco goal will likely result in Monaco assigning more than one defender to him.

Mezut Ozil can be dropped to the bench and Walbeck played on the left for his defensive abilities. If Theo Walcott plays on the right Wenger must instruct the other players to look for playbacks from him. This is because while he is able to get into good positions because of his speed he does not seem able to finish them off the. In addition, Wenger must hammer into his head the need for him to discharge his obligation to defend.

Good luck guys and I hope you will put a smile on our faces at the end of this match. COYG! It is not impossible.

      1. Walcot should not start. Let it be Welbeck. And Gabriel, if fit enough, should start and not Per.

  1. Yes, Monaco have this great defensive record, but how many teams have they played that are as good at attacking as we are? Very few. We had a shocker a couple of weeks ago, but let’s not discredit ourselves here, we are the better side and 9/10 we would win this game. Win it by 3 goals? Tough, but not impossible. If our attack clicks tonight as it usually does, but didn’t in the first leg, it’ll be a long evening for Monaco.

    1. ahem not to rain on your parade but they came away recently with clean sheet against psg an lyon- both class going forward.

but WE CAN DO IT!!! WE HAVE TO DREAM..WE CAN FLY!!!

r kelly told me i could fly..then gave me a drink he made me…i woke up next day..not remembering a thing..COYG!!!

  2. This squad is missing a great comeback, something people will comment about for a long time and i think if we win, it could be the start of a new arsenal, mentally strong.

  3. Don’t forget we went to Bayern needing 3 goals a couple of years ago and came away with a 2-0 win. We didn’t go through, but if we can do that against the best side in Europe, why can’t we get one more against Monaco?

  4. These articles are getting out of control. Every other one is trying to find a way to bench Mesut. We’ve won 8 of our last 9 league games since Mesut has been healthy and reintroduced to the squad. He creates chances for Alexis – example, FA cup end of game where De Gea made a ridiculous save & countless others – as well as the team as a whole. The team chemistry has been great, and all the sudden let’s just sit him? Ridiculous. Good thing Wenger recognizes something that you lot don’t. e.

Then Ramsey comes back, has 1 good game, 1 out of the entire season where he’s been completely underperforming, and all of the sudden he walks on water again and deserves to start. He hasn’t earned it. He deserves to come off the bench and potentially inject something different, and he deserves to start when the team is rotated, but based on how he’s performed this season and the rhythm the team has achieved in his absence, he’s earned nothing more than that. That’s the benefit of having a big squad. Good players keeping good players out. The way he’s performed this season we don’t have the luxury of playing the guessing game of which Ramsey will show up.

    Bellerin, Gabriel, Kos, Monreal
    Coq, Santi
    Welbz, Mesut, Electrical Sanchez
    Giroud

    Subs – Theo, Ramsey, ???

  5. Here is the Arsenal team: Ospina, Bellerin, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Coquelin, Cazorla, Welbeck, Ozil, Alexis, Giroud
