Arsenal torn between Villa and Adrian Lopez

Arsene Wenger has been considering new strikers to add to the Arsenal squad, and it was reported this week that David Villa from Barcelona had found his way to the top of the transfer target list. The 31-year old Barcelona front man certainly has a fantastic reputation and recored, but there are one or two issues that have given Le Prof second thoughts, and so he is now leaning towards the 24-year old Adrian Lopez from Athletico Madrid.

Wenger has already spoken to Barcelona about Villa, according to the Mirror, about a loan deal first, but the Catalan club will only sanction a permanent deal. This has raised doubts with Wenger as to why Barcelona have not played Villa more. He is worried that the striker’s age and the seriousness of the injury could spell problems for Arsenal.

Adrian is a similar style of player to Villa, and is seven years younger. Add to that the fact that his wage demands will be significantly lower and you can understand why Arsenal are having second thoughts about Villa.

My concern is that Adrian has never really been a prolific scorer, whereas Villa is the all-time top scorer for the Spanish national side. He has scored more this season than Adrian, despite hardly featuring and has bags of class. I hope the decision is not made solely over the money side of things.

Villa is absolute class. A true modern day striker. Although quite old now. If we are looking for a permanent option, then we should invest in Lopez as he will hit his prime shortly. Maybe we could get Villa, whose got about 3 years left in him. Him and Giroud could fill the space till we get our excellent prospects Chuba Akpom and Benik Afobe all ready into the first team. I think that is the plan by Wenger. Looks like a full British team in the near future.

we need january signings..and as we know wenger will look for bargain players and they are Demba Ba for stiker and Diame (now injured tho) for DCM. As for winger Zaha some say its done deal (rumours).

For defend we should get rid of deadwood Squilaci and Santos (lack of team spirit from rvp shirt swap issue) first and we can sign good players as replacement as their wage is cleared.

then we can challenge the league and CL..what i see from the wigans game is we really need a good DCM…someone who can make important tackles to get the ball back from our opponents..apart from Wilshere who charge and tackles the rest were just pressing on opponents..someone like Diaby (when he was in good form n not injured) is needed to cover up the defence and snatched the ball from midfield to move forward..

  3. **** Set Gunner ****

None of the two would solve our problem. Villa is just a temporary solution as he won’t be able to give more than 2 good years to us. While Adrian is not a proven talent. My suggestion would be to go for Stevan Jovetic.

Neither. Adrian Lopez is an average player who can’t bring a cutting edge to our forward line and I’d rather get Joel Campbell back (who can become a good striker) than him.
David Villa is 31, the best case scenario he will give us 2 good seasons, the worst scenario – he won’t able to adapt to EPL and his pace will go downhill because of his age.

Adrian, simply because he is 24 or 25 years old so he could be better then villa when he’s the same age as villa is now

  6. No more excuses

We need an instant hit . Villa (if fit and not suffering from a bad injury) would be ideal . Who cares if he only has 2 too seasons in him ? 2 seasons is a long time in football … And maybe this ffp (sorry for mentioning it ) will be In some sort of swing and will make things better for us too .

Klass has already extended his contract, villa is old with injury concern, lets go for Ba or Cavani since we’ve got the cash. Fellani or diame and a cover for gibsy.

I don’t see why wenger would bring in Villa; he’s an outcast and huge wage demands; can’t play for us in the CL this year! Lopez however Lopez has a good 8 years left in him, he has been outshone by falcao at atletico(thats the spelling admin!)

Villa because we have loads of strikers on loan, theo and giroud who will come on form after two seasons or less but as we await their development we need an experienced striker and VILLA IS IDEAL though he ought to lower his wage demands if anything is gonna happen

villa would be great if it was a loan ,,,, lopez not scoring alot of goals thats a stat and ive not seen enough of him to have an opinoin ,,, i would to see us make a proper statemeant move and go for someone like falcoa who will really efectivly bolster our attacking squad we have to start buying players that really are great players not gambles they are only ok when you already have a excerlent winning squad

Please guys stop saying that the players from outside can not adapt to EPL look at santi, aguero, Suarez, michu, vertoghen if a player has class and talent they can player any where someone like jervinho can’t change if even go and joins Chinese club so all the way David villa cause we need someone leader in the team as we don’t have at the moment villa can do that as he did that for Spain by himself

Non of the above. I watch La Liga games often and Adrian Lopez is inconsistent. As for Villa, he’s class but old and prone to injury.

We dont need any of them..lopez has always being on the bench..falcao has over shadowed him..villa 31 is old and injury prone..so i suggest llorente/huntelaar and demba ba, get rid of gervinho, santos, djourou, chamack, giroud, squallici,arshavin,..and loan ramsey to stoke city or norwich.

Get Benteke. He’s tall, strong, can hold the ball and he’s quick. Best of all, he wants to play for Arsenal! :-D

Wenger announced he will sign a player only if he has a “Special Quality”. Sound familiar? In other words no one is coming.

We need to sign a manager not a player!

We should get Villa or Adrian to improve the squad or even make a move for C.Ronaldo as he has told his friends he wants to leave Madrid and go to United but we can persuade him and make him come here.We could also get Kaka or Ozil or Sneidjer

Adrian can’t even get a game for atletico. We don’t need prospects we have plenty of that. Villa would come in and do a job straight away he’s one of best st in world, and he’s not injury prone he’s had one serious injury, so did Ramsey is he injury prone? Wat about rvp if we’re talkin injury prone but we’d all love him to b here still. At end of the day if the price isn’t too extreme villa would be a far better option than the mediocre Adrian, Lopez isn’t better than wat we already have if we are bein honest, villa can win games himself and that’s what we need, I agree that there are better options like jovetic and cavani but we no none of them are comin

do you rate lopez as i do not he cant even get a game for athletico would rather get villa he is more of an out and out striker and there are better players around than lopez like isco and munain who are quality players

Your opinions dont count. If there is no economic advantage Wenger will not buy.So why waste your time wishing. It`s a fruitless exercise. The club cannot take financial risks, no genuine ambition. We say we have money and are looking for top quality.Yet we cant afford Cavani, cant afford Munain, cant afford Villa, cant afford Mbiwa, cant afford Tiote.Mark my words,if we are still in the top4 by January, dont expect any major buys because Wenger always flatters to deceive. He doesnt really know what and who he wants in the team.

loan deal for Villa would be ideal.
Only six months wages and can be tested if he still has it.
I personally believe we need to splash the money for a striker and give walcott long term deal.

Villa all the way, how can you expect a player who doesnt score regulary in the spanish divison to suddenly start scoring in the premier league. its hopeful. we need a striker who can perform now not in a year. adrian is more of a risk, we have plenty of players for the future, we need experience. someone compl

Hope we dont get either of them, especially Lopez who looks a real waste of space. A loan with a view, seems only fair on Villas part. We cant take the risk with his type of wages. If there are no serious injuy probs with Villa how come A Mad Mala Val Dep arent all interested, especially A Mad as they are about to lose Falcao?

Walcott could be used as part payment for Dzecko, no?

Anyway back to me pointing out a fact of life. …

For the the past two decades I have seen a trend of people choosing cheap labour over experienced labour. Back in the mid 80’s, an average bricklayer or plasterer could easily take home over £120 per day. That was a lot of money then. As a teen at that time who just left school, I took home £45 per week.

Today, people hire kids who have just left college after doing a bricklaying course and pay £50 a day. The experienced brickie will lay 500 bricks a day, the cream of the crop will do that before lunch, they will be laid better, look better and you will have what you paid for. The college leaver will manage 300 bricks a day and they will look ok-ish, with the occasional mistake.

Now which one would Wenger hire if he had the funds for either?

    You know it.
