Arsenal transfer rumour round-up – Dembele, Shaw, Icardi, Wilshere, Diop

I know it’s only February and we hate to overdo it on the transfer front outside the actual transfer windows, but there is a number of stories which are popping up regarding Arsenal.

Jack Wilshere looks the most relevant, with the midfielder currently out of contract come the summer. The midfielder is believed to have been offered a reduced wage, albeit with improved appearance terms following a number of injuries over the years, and other clubs would be watching his situation. Juventus are claimed to be eyeing his signature at present, while Liverpool are also linked with an interest.

One player’s name who keeps being linked with us lately is Issa Diop. The defender is tipped to be the latest top French centre-back to emerge following on from Raphael Varane, Aymeric Laporte, Kurt Zouma and Samuel Umtiti. We are claimed to be leading Spurs and both Real Madrid and Barcelona in the chase for his signature, and could well be a key summer target judging by our defence.

The next two stories I will take with a pinch of salt, and find it highly unlikely that any of these deals could come true, but I’ll bring you the speculated claims regardless.

Aubameyang has supposedly told our club to bring Ousmane Dembele to North London, with Wenger signing off on the deal. Barcelona apparently splashed out £96 Million on him only last summer, but he has already supposedly lost his place in the team.

Another player we supposed to be eyeing is Luke Shaw, who is currently at Man United. The left-back arrived at Old Trafford with huge potential and ability, and appears to have gone backwards following a long-term injury. As much as it makes sense for us to sign these players who love an injury, I don’t believe we would be willing to match or raise the struggling youngster’s £80,000 per week wage demands, especially while Kolasinac, Monreal and Maitland-Niles are here.

One part of the next story I can agree with, as it claims Arsenal are losing in the race to sign Mauro Icardi. The Argentine striker is currently impressing for Inter Milan, and his agent Mino Raiola is apparently keen on taking him to Manchester United. Not sure I believe the latter part, but I don’t see him at the Emirates regardless.

Can you imagine Arsenal signing nay of the above supposed targets?

  1. Dembele: I don’t think Barcelona would sell this kid, because his youth is a big asset

Shaw: Arsenal have got Kolasinac and Maitland-Niles as Monreal’s successors

Icardi: Where will Arsenal put Aubameyang and Lacazette if he joins

Wilshere: I predict the negotiation is gonna be tough with him, because he wants big increase like Ozil and many clubs could be after him

Diop: If he is a ball playing defender with superb composure like Laporte and Umtiti, snatch him ASAP, because our goalkeepers often have difficulties in distributing the ball to the defenders

The other positions Arsenal need to strengthen are:

Inverted winger: Maybe Adama Traore, Malcom or Pavon could emulate what Salah, Mane, Sterling and Sane are doing?

DM: In the past we crave for Sissoko, Xhaka, Renato Sanches, Schneiderlin, N’zonzi and Krychowiak. Finding a mobile, skillful and visionary DM like Busquets, Mascherano and Fernandinho is not easy

CD: Evans plays for the bottom-table West Brom, like Mustafi when Arsenal bought him from the bottom-table Valencia. Maybe De Vrij and Gimenez would be available at the end of this season

    1. But surely you realise, even though Wenger doesn’t, that AM-N is in no way a left back. Right footed and talented going forward so obviously the lunatic manager sees him as a left back.

  2. Diop could be a possibility to add to Wengers collection of young centre backs for display in his trophy cabinet? He acquires them, admires them, but rarely trusts them to play.Given the obvious deficiencies in our experienced centre backs why will be not give the likes of Holding and Chambers an opportunity to play together in a flat back four?

    1. the same can be said for Varane and umity

they were unknows and unproven before joining barca and real

  3. Dembele was overhyped and it seems he’s struggling at Barca, he ain’t Barca class, they panick bought him coz of pressure of Neymar sale.. at first I thought the real Dembele (Spurs steel) but i know they won’t sell

    1. dembele is not overhyped, he is going to be world class, he has the potential, he has been unlucky with injuries, if we get him, it will be great, barcelona are not stupid to sell after just one season.

  4. I don’t think we need a striker or a LB.
I don’t understand why we would go for Icardi unless we offload Lacazette. Also, why get Luke Shaw when we have both Kolsanic and Monreal?
We do need a CB or 2, a RB to challenge Bellerin and replace Debuchy and 2 CM or at least a defensive midfielder but ideally a player to replace Caz

    1. But first a New Manager
Because this one won’t get everyone we need. Well he hasn’t for 14 years anyway

      1. I am not saying a new manager, I just think it is too harsh on Wenger when talking about transfers.

He did want a CB this window but he wasn’t the one doing the transfers.

Wenger didn’t want Perez, he wanted Laca… Gazidis bought Perez then the following year he bought Laca while Perez drifted into oblivion.
Wenger wanted Xhaka but had ElNeny bought for him, got Xhaka in the end (flop I know but perfect example of board and manager failing), why all the blame on Wenger for signings?

I could point to how Wenger wanted Cazorla and we missed him 1 window but got him the next because of a couple million.

Wenger only wanted Welbroke on loan but Gazidis bought him and we are still stuck with him, running his contract down.

Oooh contracts, something else Wenger has been blamed for. Gazidis lets the sponsorship ones run out and who pays attention? Can’t be blamed on Wenger so gets ignored.

So Wenger has not been able to get all the players he wants due to the CEO and funds which is the CEOs area… Blame Wenger still?

Wenger tactics is infuriating and his subs appear mindless reactions at times… Plenty to potentially moan about without needing to affix false blame.

This current squad has players in it that Wenger never wanted and to blame the current squad on him alone, I feel that is unfair.

        1. Yeah, nothing is his fault ; not even the decade long hole at DCM or all the rubbish CB’s we have had for donkeys years. Not the ignoring of defensive coaching and playing both full backs way too far up field either. Not the automatom 70th minute subs either, no matter how the game is gong. Nor thelove affair with Granit Xhaka, unshared by ANYONE ELSE. No , none of it is poor Arsenes fault. King Arsene the Blameless, hero of all insane asylum dwellers. Ready now, here we go, “They’re coming to take me away, ha-ha, ho-ho, he -he!”

  5. How does it help at this stage to tell us about player transfers that will happen 10 months from now. Even then, and if it happens, Wenger will still look for bargains. WE NEED 8 NEW WORLD CLASS PLAYERS.

  6. I do think Luke Shaw could be a good signing.
Monreal isn’t getting younger and it would be nice to get a player of Shaw quality in ready.
Shaw will need to build himself back up and we have Sead while he does that, if he wants to start then performing and staying fit is the way to do it. I do not think he would expect to come in and be a starter but that is a good thing, we have Sead as a potential starter.

It is Shaws contract the reason why I feel we should go for him, if we can get him for free then that would be ideal, both LBs being freebies and talented would be nice bragging rights 😛

Also this would mean that AMN gets less time as LB, I want to see him given more time in the middle but if AFC buy a top DM then that will cut into AMN development. One way for AMN to develop would be to act as cover for Bellerin at RB for a season while also being backup for the top DM signing.

Save the £££ for CBs and DM, maybe a GK as well.

  7. As arsenal fans you should know to count your chickens before coming to such funny conclusions.

Maybe Abuma being here is bec we lost Sanchez so we had to compenzate a lose with a new asset otherwise arsenal fans would go mental? Kinda a panic buy.

Maybe Wenger will extend his contract?

We buy just enough to ease fans and make them remain feithfull. I mean make them pay the money. In case of us rlly wantinng to compete we all know that what we rrly need are defending type of players and the attack part is just a luxury problem
