Arsenal transfer targets under pressure in Belgium v Ireland

With both of the Lukaku brothers in the Belgium squad at Euro 2016, Arsenal fans will be hoping to get a good luck at both of these players that have been linked with a possible summer move to north London in a number of Arsenal transfer rumours.

There is a chance, however, that the striker Romelu and his younger brother Jordan who is a left back, could start their second game today against Ireland on the bench. The young defender who currently plays his club football for Oostende is yet to feature at the tournament as the Tottenham player Jan Vertonghen is in front of him in the pecking order.

Jordan has made no secret of his wish to play for Arsenal but unless he gets to play for Belgium I cannot see Arsene Wenger taking a risk on him, at least not yet. His brother’s situation is different as he came into the competition as the first choice centre forward ahead of Marseille’s Michy Batshuayi and the Liverpool pair Divock Origi and Christian Benteke, who has been linked with Arsenal himself a lot in the past.

The Everton forward’s place in the starting line up is under threat, though, after Belgium lost their opening game to Italy with a pretty toothless performance. The Belgian boss Marc Wilmots has spoken about changing his attack and that sounds like bad news for Lukaku but we will have to wait and see.

If Benteke does start and play well, however, is there still a chance that he could be an Arsenal target once more?

  1. I get the feeling that wenger is fishing for a new striker without any bait or real intent… He is just going through the motions of casting out and reeling in an empty line.
At the end of the day, I just hope that he doesn’t get hooked up, on some old boot!

  2. An not implying that we should put in a bid for him, bit I hope tv5 have a good game and remained injury free.. seeing that guy go was like saying goodbye to a loved one.

    1. And typically, when slatted, he starts banging them in.
We already have a striker like that. ?

  3. The speculation/rumours are beginning to come to a halt. The two which seemed like an easy completion, what happened with these. Rob Holding and Maxi Romero, I would liked to have seen these come in at least for now. Maxi, he’s S American, he looks well talented, we should definitely get this one done. And then there’s holding, a young English CB, this should be done by now. When we take this long with the younger stars it’s no surprise that the established one’s can drag on a bit. Xhaka’s signing does not seem so much of a saga anymore.

    1. Don’t know if you have heard, but any player worth his salt is away on international duty.

But arsenal are leading the way with 2 signings and most money spent.

      1. Most camps allow they’re players get deals done, England has issued hands off, but there are players being signed that I am sure. Also they’re players who didn’t make the teams, and they’re teams who didn’t make the finals. And I am talking about youngsters who should be easy to sign, it was rumours I said which are coming to a halt, I didn’t realise you need a player at the Euros for a rumour to go out.

Liverpool are trying to sign Kovacic. Darmian is trying to get swapped for Matic. Tott are buying Wanyama. Raiola is trying to push through Mkhitarian to manu. Whilst we are doing 180 and landing back on Goetze. Manu are testing waters of Koscielny and Pogba. Liverpool have inquired about Lucas Moura. So you see, there was no reason for trying to talk at someone as if you’re calling them an idiot.

  4. Hope we sign Draxler and Jassen. if Gibbs leaves, then Rodriguez. Sell Theo if we can to free up the wage…

      1. Without Gibbs and Theo we still have enough to cover HG.
no more than 17 players over 21 and not HG:

        1. Cech
        2. Per
        3. Kos
        4. Gabriel
        5. Alexis
        6. Ozil
        7. Giroud
        8. Ospina
        9. Monreal
        10. Cazorla
        11. Xhaka
        12. Elneny
        13. Campbell

add in the 2 from Tristan and 15.
Still 2 under so chill dude, don’t stress about HG yet ^.^

  5. All am patiently waiting for is the end of Wenger’s contract at the end of the season and all I can fast and pray for is that there won’t be no extension in between…That’s when my passion will resurrect again! the all transfer thing has been a circus for well over a decade and this particular one will be nothing short of a replica..I always know as many of us always do how our season is going to be from the beginning and I have always got it right..whoever think that chelsea will be like the other season is dreaming needless to mention that they took 6 points from us in what was a awful season for them, city and manure are about to begin a spending spree,Liverpool are in it as well and Dmitri payet and the hammers are going to be a big problem..Teams are looking to address the loopholes of the past season and for me honestly I doubt whether Wenger can suddenly change for good and face the reality..The new season whether we like it or not is a deja vu!!!!

    1. My guess is, if Wenger knows that he will be offered a 2-year extension then the coming season will be déjàvu in term of recruitments. If he thinks this is his final year (not offered an extension) then he will attempt to go with a Big Bang by recruiting perhaps as many as 5 players (inclusive of Xhaka and the young Nigerian player already recruited) since he has to replace Arteta, Rosicky, Flamini (also Wellbeck with injury). So, three more players: two will be cut-price unknown small French players; he will try to bring one big name (probably a midfielder, probably French, small/average build) on 31 August, at an outrageous price. Either way there is no cause for any optimism, in my opinion. The first option being more likely, I wonder whether his role can be changed?
