Arsenal v Aston Villa review – GET IN! Glory Gunners make history!

Just as expected, Arsenal began the first half with a bit of caution just to make sure that we were not left chasing the game as we had to in the final last season. But Aston Villa never really looked like scoring once, never mind twice, and so the Gunners soon got into our stride.

Arsenal were controlling the game with the passing and movement of Coquelin, Cazorla, Ozil, Alexis and Ramsey and we were always looking to get the speedy Walcott in behind the Villa defence. The first really good chance came from a Koscielny header but Given made a smart save.

The Gunners kept coming though and Villa were just starting to look like they might make it to the break all square after an amazing block had denied Theo from point blank range and Ramsey had missed a couple. Up stepped the on fire England striker though and there was nothing Given or the defenders could do to stop Walcott’s powerful and controlled strike.

By this time Arsenal were completely dominant and with Szczesny and the back four looking sharp and strong, with Coquelin playing an absolute blinder in the deep lying midfield role, showing great technique on the ball as well as his usual defensive work. The only down side was that we only had the one goal.

It only took five minutes of the second half for the second to come though, and what a beauty it was! Monreal helped with an overlap and Alexis jinked inside past his man and unleashed an unstoppable long range strike that swerved in the air giving Given no chance.

Byt the time Mertesacker made it three 12 minutes later from a Cazorla corner we could have had a few more. Arsenal were running rings around Villa and not really giving them any hope around our goal. We did get away with a free kick on the edge of the box and a possible penalty for Grealish late on. There was still time for Arsenal to cap it off with a nicely taken goal from Giroud.

A fantastic game for Arsenal as we won the FA cup for a record 12th time to finish a very encouraging season with a BANG!

    1. On behalf of EVERY arsenal fan

A massive thank you to alexis sanchez for providing us with his immaculate and flawless season I wish he knew how much we all appreciate him for playing for this club and his performances he has been exquisite

Haven’t enjoyed watching a footballer for arsenal so much since Thierry Henry

      CHAMPIONES OLE OLE OLE !!!

Few more signings and we can go for the leauge next season come onnnn !!!!!

    2. Man for man we were excellent! Was cheering on the lads in a bar @ Aston with 4 others, the amount of dirty looks we got – but it was all worth it! Even Villa fans applauded that Alexis goal, simply magnificent!

    3. Ozil motm…..every player today deserved it except Ramsey, Ramsey had a poor game. Girouds goal was a typical world class finish.

      1. What are you talking about lol, Ramsey played well. I don’t want to argue because this is a fantastic moment for all of us, but sometimes it goes unnoticed how hard Ramsey works.

        Anyways, beautiful game! COYG

    4. Thx wneger 4leaving og12 on the bench, class wil always some show t self AS17 wat a goal…..i think this was coquelines best game so far that was too much technique boy, Ozill was constantly laying in those balls, carzola, koscielny, merts, ramsey, Bellerin was as usuall exceptional, monreal n man Sherzee did t well every time he had a chance to, the subs werent bad at all having made a goal btn them n jack wasnt bad except 4over clinging on to the ball.
      ARSENAL WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  1. She wore! She wore! She wore a yellow ribbon!
She wore a yellow ribbon in the merry month of May,
And when! I asked! Oh why she wore that ribbon!
She said its for the Arsenal and we’re going to Wembley!#COYG

    1. Dude, I’m gonna get laid tonight for good. Tomorrow, I’ll go to church and sing with the choir.

      Enjoy yourselves, amigos!!!

    1. Which moron has thumbed my comment down. HAHAHAHAHAH, potential scum spurs fan on here lads. You reckon its jealousy???? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  2. Love Cazorla answering his own statements.. “Sanchez is a quality player, no.” “The team played very well toady, no.” Lol. Unbelievable standard of play today though!!

  3. Record made!
Now, we have a good spirit and confidence to unto a big stage.
    Next season next!

  4. GET IN THEEEERE SON::!! HAFIZ AND ROBERTTHEMUG eat your heart outtttt

GOOOO Gunneeeeeers the biggest club of London!

        1. you have an agenda against sanchez who has been a revelation for us all season. He scored another cracker on the big stage when we needed another goal. He will be the difference maker in our title charge next year.

ALEXIS SANCHEZ BABY! ALEXIS SANCHEZ OOOOOOOO

          1. i had completely lost faith in sanchez after his performance at anfield and that turned into hate after our R16 exit at the hands of monaco (which i still think was 75% sanchez’s fault)
Maybe my reaction was over the top, so from now on i’m going to try to be a bit more supportive.
            New season, clean slate :p

        2. Thumbs up for you Nokia, for making me smile with your ‘ what did I do’ comment.

  5. Fantastic game, fantastic goals, fantastic game, Woj had a clean sheet, back to back titles, 12 Cups in our history, I can go on and on and on

  6. This comment goes out for dat guy Welbz and his winner against his former club. Wouldn’t be here without him. Unfortunate that he’s injured still

    1. He knows he had a big hand in us winning the cup he will enjoy his medal!!!! Well done lads!

  7. Some here were overly pessimistic, but it’s understandable. I won’t mention names. Basically, we are all happy we won.

    FOYS!!!

  8. #doubters :We squashed the villains

    Ozist, what a player
    Sanchez, magnificent
Santiago Cazorla, best deep lying mid in Bpl

    What a game
    Walcott..

Can’t wait for next season, combine that mix with Arturo n Martin… Unplayable

    1. Ozil was breathtaking at times, he had a great game today and looks much more comfortable than last season. An absolute joy to watch

  9. Seeing Alexis Lifting the trophy. BEST FEELING I HAVE EXPERIENCED FOR A VERY VERY LONG TIME

    1. A very stubborn one. I salute his courage of fielding szczesny and he did well. We can only sign extraordinary players. We have enough good squad players.

  10. Le coq bullied aston villa! I think the villa players were crying for their mommy’s after the game!

    1. Thanks wenger for picking Theo…his pace & movement was too much for villa defence to handle & created space for other players to operate!

  11. How many trophies Arsenal has won since VanParcel left 3, how many trophies VanParcel has won since he left Arsenal 1. How many trophies Arsenal has won since Sagna left 2. How many trophies has won since he left Arsenal 0. Glory days are back. COYG

  12. Congrats to arsenal fans all over the world m so so happy with this performance and we have made history today by winning most fa cups very pleased and this team has today made my day now i will go to bed and sleep with happiness love u all players specially sanchez ozil and walcott coyg!!!

  13. I am sorry but I am going to say it. WE DO NOT NEED THE PLAYERS EVERYONE THINKS WE NEED. Get Ox, Diaby, Arteta and Wilshere fit and we are good to go. Just a striker and that’s it!

    1. I agree with needing a striker but none of the players you mentioned are defensive minded

Coquelin has been key to our season. If he gets injured we need another DM. Even if Coquelin isn’t injured, we play in 4 tournaments

We need another top striker and DM in my opinion

    2. Don’t be “that” kind of fan. We clearly need the additions to compete for the premier league and champions league trophies. The FA cup is nice to win but we clearly lack a few players for the major trophies we can target, don’t bury your head in the sand, it is what it is….let’s go out and get what’s needed.

  14. Now we have a team that almost everybody is good and any team picked can put in their best. Can any one say we should pay so much for Pogba when we have Le coq? Who is that fan that added 5 to 3 and divided by 2 and said we will win 4-0? You got it. Sczcesny kept a clean sheet. I salute Wenger for his courage. Ospina was not good in the last game. Let every player now know that you can be dropped.

  15. Now Mr WENGER, go out early and sign the players we need ( a DM and another Striker)..

    Thanks…

  16. I have to admit I owe Szczesny a serious amount of respect after today. I thought it was a mistake playing him originally but he nullified Benteke! Ozil was Bergkampesque, and Walcott…. Just sensational!

So good I had a little cry…. Crazy!

    1. Spot on! Not sure Ospina would’ve reached those crosses, have to hand that to Wenger for going against the mass op pinion!

  17. Great job from the gunners! Was glad that even the subs made an impact. Jack created chances, and Ox assisted Girouds goal. Hats off to Sanchez for his 25 goals and 13 assists in 52 games for us this season. Cazorla was MOTM for me cause he made things tick.

  18. Stunning performance! Every player was sensational. Great end to the season. Well done AFC and well done AW!

Funniest moment…Koz’s headless chicken impersonation when Mert scored. Lol!

  19. I am watching the German Cup now. Dortmund vs Wolfsbiug, are you jealous?

Can the Theo haters just jump off a bridge?
Will the Giroud haters hit their testicles with a hammer?
Will the Szczesnyhaters cut a finger off?

  20. How immense was Coquelin today? Superb protection of the back 4 to annihilate the links between midfield and attack, cool in possession and magnificent distribution.

    My MOTM: Francis Coquelin!

    1. Absolutely, he has been that missing link we have needed for many a year. But Wenger should not rely on him solely, we still need another top DM to rotate with him for next season.

  21. We Kept Clean Sheeeets this season against Aston Villa. 12:0. I predicted 4:1 but Arsenal said No wayyyyy, Its a clean sheeeet. I am sooo happy. Thanks Guys for making the season a great one…. Gunners for Life!!!! Benteke is no messi or ronaldo’ love how the midfielders and defenders Stopped Him from playing.

  22. So do we still to get rid of Walcott as Welbeck is a better player and higher in the pecking order??.. smh..

  23. Such an awesome day
    We win FA Cup
My favourite players scored (except Ozil) Theo, Oliver and Alexis
    Even BFG scored
    We made history
    Back to Back trophies
We don’t need to qualify for CL this summer

Now Wenger go get some Top Top signings

  24. I had so many pints I’ll thumb you all up till I drop!

Off to celebrate and score against the wife!

  25. Oh sh*t! Got piss##ng DRUNK early with all that happiness! Just need to get laid tonite..will make it a memorable 30/05/15. Thank you AFC. No man of the match there were MEN of the match, yes!

  26. Now all we need Is Kell Brook to win title and AJ to smash Johnson up and we have a great weekend

  27. One of the best performances of the Gunners all season. Good team selection by Arsene.
Every player totally on their game, Ozil, Santi, Alex, Ramsey brilliant.
What a perfect Arsenal Team game.
    Brilliant.
    U.T.G.

  28. The team were superb, Villa were outplayed and outclassed. Sanchez motm, best player in England right now. I’d also like to take my hat off to Arsene Wenger, he made history today and
on top of all the criticism he has received, today he has proven that he is STILL the best man for the job.

    WELL DONE ARSENE WENGER!

  29. Awesome day. We were superb from the 1st minute. Joy to see that kind of ruthlessness and killer instinct. We were switched on throughout.

Great tactics and team selection by Le Prof.

On to bigger and better next season

    Wembley! Wembley!

  30. Wenger got his tactics spot on.

Today was special. Last year the vibe was of relief. This year the team and manager seemed to take it in their stride and were in command throughout. This was a huge step forward for us.

    1. Great comment Robin and so true. The gunners are on their way up, next season the BPL title is ours! All we need is perhaps another top DM and CF and we are good to go.

    2. @RVP
What really impressed me, was how we “adapted” on the field without losing our shape or attacking threat…FKN BRILLIANT…

  31. This is a sign of better days ahead. Not forgeting Sanchez Thunder both. Looking forward to meeting Cheski next season Community shield, that is another Wembley visit 7 times in two years. Gunner for life.

  32. I feel like a psychic right now. Every single thing that I said this team will do, just happened. Total domination, check. Goals from the usual suspects, check. Tactically out manoeuvring Villa, check. Benteke in Koscielny’s pocket, check. Actually Benteke was in several pockets. He just couldn’t decide his favourite pocket to be in. Francis as the defensive shield, check. Dear gunners, never stop believing. Today is a glorious day.

    1. Ahem Uche, I will draw you to the attention of my betting preview earlier!

Arsenal have already beaten Villa 5-0 and 3-0 this season, so I am going to have a small 2 quid punt on 4-0 (in the middle!) at an attractive 18/1 although Arsene Wenger doesn’t think the earlier games will have much effect today.

      1. haha. Happy feet probably from Madagascar. The lot eating that stuff on the Villa side were just greedy and the lot on the Arsenal side playful.

  33. Mertesacker was excellent today completely nullify the threat of benteke and got himself a goal. He definetly won the battle out of the two offensively and defensivley. He has also been the leader of the team this season with artetas absence and is considered the most vocal player on and of the pitch.

Per critics give credit were its due

  34. Success indeed makes the heart merry. Even Arsenal majority share holder was happy today seeing his club lifting trophy today.

  35. There was no nerves today, just a professional show. Keep it this way and we’ll do Chelski!

The boys are back in town should be our new anthem!

  36. London is red. Up next is a fantastic transfer window and we are going for EPL next season

  37. 12th time FA cup winner!!!!
    Time to kick on now!
Onto our 14th league title and 1st champions league trophy!
    COYG!!!! <3

  38. Congratulations and well done Arsenal. You made us proud to be Arsenal fans. Now do another invincibles’ performance next season and win the champions league while you are at it. We believe this team can do it!

  39. No…pls hats off to this team, I can’t quantify my joy; these gunners make me proud… Glory!!!! Up gunners; shout out to Sanchez, Master passer Ozil, Shield Le Coq,workaholic Ramsey, Excellent cazorla of course the sensational walcott…God bless Arsenal…Arsene wenger,u did it again…
We just nid maybe 2or 3 signing and we are good to go

  40. Not only london is red we a painting everywhere red.am really proud to be a gunner, yeah the best team in the world.

  41. what a wonderful team display , amazing vivtory . i had my doubts coming into this season , but i have been put firmly in my place , and rightly so . i dont think it is fair to pick a man of the match , every player played his heart out this evening . at last i am seeing the true worth of ozil, he was mercurial , santi was a class above , alexis was the heartbeat of this great team . per was awesome , he kept benteke quiet all game .i could name all of the players , they all played their part . without being overly excited that was the perfect team performance. the future looks bright , the future looks red . but the trick is tokeep this type of performance going for next season . hit the ground running with this performance come august and we will be streets ahead of any other team i feel . however , we all know there are two arsenals , the arsenal that turned up at wembley today , and then the arsenal who makes our lives miserable . more of this team work please . two special words here , one word for wenger , tactically he was brilliant today !. and to the arsenal fans that were at the match well done guys , you done us all proud , you created the best wembley athmosphere ever !!. go gunners.

  42. Congrats to the team and squad. A very dominant performance. Could have easily have been 4 – 0 by halftime but for great goalkeeping and lucky blocks. Hope the lads have a good rest and looking forward to next season with confidence. Well done AW and happy transfer dealing.

  43. Recipe for the cake of greatness:

12 FA Cups of glory for 1 cup of money

Are you listening Chelsea fans? Because the red revolution is coming your way!

  44. Arsene wenger’s team selection and tactics is comendable,he actually analysed Villa’s team very well before making his decision and I hope he will aproach every match in this manner. A wonderous performance by the Gunners and this is an indication that the future is bright. Though, everybody performed really well but Martesacer’s performance caught my eyes the most for a reason, Benteke didn’t win a single headed duel against him all game and that has only shown that he is still a reliable center back.
