Arsenal v BATE review -Class display from our reserves!

Arsenal won 4-2 over in Belarus and beating BATE BORISOV 3-0 at half time it looks like the Belarus champions season is well and truly over now so they only had pride to play for in the second half.

Arsenal started the second half in muted fashion with BATE looking like they wanted to go in hard, but we shrugged them off and a brilliant pass to Walcott on the wing saw him drive a cross into the box which was easily converted by a BATE defender (don’t ask me to spell their names lol) Arsenal were looking so comfortable it was embarrassing.  4-0 thanks to an own goal. As if Arsenal need any help!

Approaching the hour mark, Welbeck went through on his own but again failed to capitalise, and Giroud saw a shot go into the stands. BATE were getting into the Arsenal half more often as we slacked off and Ospina finally got some action when he took a goal kick! but we broke straight away and Walcott was taken down in the box. Giroud took it and scored brilliantly but he was forced to take it again. He put it in the same place but the goalkeeper guessed right and nearly stopped it but it was too powerful and suddenly Arsenal are 5-0 up with 25 minutes to go!

BATE were still spirited enough to attack, but with just one shot that went straight at Ospina. Wenger finally decided to make a change and took the captain for tonight, Theo Walcott, off and brought on Reiss Nelson. Wilshere was looking to score in the box but in the end picked out Elneny who curled it beautifully into the corner. 6-0 and still 15 mins to go! I backed 7-0 so the last 15 was always going to be interesting to me! Neketiah coming on for Welbeck was making me optimistic and Willock replaced Elneny.

Arsenal were totally in control but the Belarus champions refused to give up and were looking for a consolation but rarely looking really dangerous. Wilshere was taken down clinically just outside the box but I think the ref is feeling sorry for them so he plays on.

We got 2 minutes of extra time but Arsenal didn’t look like they were bothered any more…

Game over, and a very entertaining game it was!

  1. BATE Borisov’s level is simply way below Arsenal’s, but the second squad were really flowing with the 4-2-3-1 formation. It was exciting to see the return of the players’ sharpness, such as Wilshere, Giroud, Walcott, Elneny, Maitland-Niles, Debuchy, etc.

They did not have much pressure from the opponents, but it would be nice if this squad can push the first team players to perform. Because of his versatility, Wilshere could rotate with Sanchez, Ozil, Xhaka or Ramsey.

Debuchy and Maitland-Niles can force Bellerin and Kolasinac to improve their performances. Welbeck could also compete with Lacazette. Arsenal would have a good depth to face Southampton.

    1. Wellbeck can not compete with Lacazette! Wellbeck was through on goal again and can’t score. He needs plenty of practice to improve his finishing.

    2. “Welbeck could also compete with Lacazette…” And for your next joke? Looked to me like Welbeck was trying to force himself into Arsenal’s 3rd team, if they have one.

    3. To me the game says nothing..bate was truly bad…we make 6 but i watch any resistance by the oponent…even so, i saw to much bad passes, joking mistakes, etc. coquelin lost the ball in areas where we just cant afford..welbeck is rough! Did u see his control on the second goal? I almost start to cry, rhank god there was walcott…
Elneny in the other hand…damn, thank god we dont buy it for an expensive price because he is just championship lvl..in my amateur league everybody shoot better than him…his goal today was just because he close his eyes and shot.

Sorry for the pesimism, but to me the match shows how bad is our second team, thinking about the players i see on ours competitors benches

  2. here comes the told you so brigade
    just enjoy the win guys

    none of this
    “theo is ready to start”
    “jack is the second coming”
“holding is ready to play against premier leagues finest”

its bate borisov and they were already eliminated from the europa league
    a nothing game

    CALM DOWN 🙂

  3. Make you laugh some of these pundits, when Arsenal lose we’re very poor, when Arsenal win, the opposition are very poor

  4. Have to say, Welbeck has to go, so does Walcott. They played well today, but not good enough. Just an honest opinion, we need better reserve to back up likes of Sanchez and Lacazette

    1. When jack plays, he doesn’t just give obvious passes or non-threatening passes, he dribbles splits defences and has heart, the only thing I need from him is more shots and less injury………. Yes, you can say I don’t like ozil, but Wilshere is far better and he can do this against any team, you can’t keep arsenal from not scoring when Wilshere is this sharp, we would be breathtaking with Wilshere, ramsey, lacazette and any other attackers (ozil & sanchez) in the team………….. Remember, Paul said it, ozil is over hyped

        1. All media talk, Barca…………hmm, I can bet anything that barca wouldn’t even look at him twice, not even when they think they can get coutinho, 1 coutinho is better than 20 ozils, Madrid, ur they sold him with there first chance, manutd could get him and he would warm there bench………………..He stayed because NOONE came for him in the transfer window, sanchez had all the suitors …………………. Yea, better players playing for smaller teams in epl

  5. Jack needs to some more games. Clearly one can see that he is good enough and better then most of the players we have

  6. Bate were worse than bad but good to see my team win.
Walcott played really well and also nice to see 433 formation.

  7. guys ffs bate werent even tight on defending -they were absolute pony
so jack and the likes need to be judged against actual opponents

    1. Has Jack not done it against barca, against Brazil, he was a class above everyone in our team when he played against Bayern, Chelsea, manutd and all our bogey teams,he even threatened Chelsea in a Bournemouth shirt, I don’t talk without facts……………………ozil is average against better and more physical opponents, opponents Wilshere shines in…
      ……….again ozil is over hyped

  8. Waloctt makes it even if most Arsenal fans hate him. At the moment, he is still the best clinical finisher in front of goals. The hate on Walcott is unjustifiable

  9. I think Wilshere should Captain the side, not Walcott.

    Reinforcements are still needed.

Don’t be hoodwinked by a mere one match. There are still plenty to be done for these players to fight for first team place.

Santi is still out, give Wilshere a chance to play. I’m sure with the current situation, Wilshere will not be allowed to leave.
