Arsenal v Liverpool Half-time Review – Arsenal lucky to be 0-1

Arsene Wenger confounded everyone by changing to a 4-2-4 system which must have left Jurgen Klopp scratching his head. We were expecting a fast game and after 10 minutes it proved too fast for Jordan Henderson who tried chasing Mesut Ozil and pulled up with a hamstring injury and was replaced by James Milner.

Arsenal were defending in numbers and trying to hit the Reds on the break and Liverpool were attacking quickly and trying to get behind Arsenal’s too-solid defence. It was end-to-end stuff and it looked like goals are guaranteed. Maitland-Niles seems to be doing well against Mo Salah, but the speed of the game is making for some loose sloppy passes as both sides try to look for a way through. A lot of long balls into the box are going straight to the keeper at both ends…

Iwobi was giving the ball away too much last week and he seems to be carrying on that form but at least he is involved in the action but after 20 minutes I’m still waiting to see Alexis Sanchez to get involved. Cech is dealing with everything that comes into the box with aplomb and the Gunners are throwing everything on the break. Finally Alexis gets the ball on the wing and with Lacazette gets close to the goal, but immediately Liverpool have their best chance of the game but Cech is equal to it.

A great move down the wing sees Iwobi near the line but his centre goes to no-one yet again, but suddenly Salah is on his own against Koscielny. He tries to cross and it bounces off Koss and falls nicely to Coutinho who glances a perfect header over Petr Cech and Arsenal are 1-0 down and chasing the game. Liverpool’s counter attack is deadly yet again.Arsenal are going all out for the equalizer and Liverpool are keeping up the tempo and the quick passes are going just about anywhere with the speed of the game on the half hour mark.

Firmino sees a shot go inches over and Arsenal could have been 2-0 down but we survive and carry on. It is scary how fast this game is and how can they last another hour? Mane then gets a brilliant chance from a freekick behind the defence but couldn’t get the volley right. Another goal goes begging and I’m struggling to keep up! Wow!

The ball is flying from end to end again and yet again Salah gets off down the wing and when Koss slips he is through but Cech somehow blocksand Mane’s scissor kick is over the bar. The two combine again a minute later and Salah misses an easy shot again. The game is full of mistakes but all the chances are going to the visitors. We need half time to come without conceding again as everyone looks tired right now. Arsenal keep trying but not really get close to a goal before the whistle blows. At half time it looks like Wenger is the most worried man as it is yet another counter attack that Liverpool love that gives them the advantage. It should be 0-3 by now  but we are still in with a chance in the second half if we get our act together …

I’m wishing right now…

  1. We are so scared of there pace we cant press high are are handing them the 3pts needs to change fast press high like we did with utd.

  2. 2 lucky goals but we are pathetic, only downside is Wenger will blame this loss on bad luck.

Wenger out, what poor team selection

    1. Two lucky goals?
      Who are you ?
      Wenger?
      Liverpool should be 5-0 up
      Arsenal are garbage…
And you are right – they are pathetic…
      WENGER OUT !!!!!!!

      1. You epitomize the pessimism and lack of passion among a section of the fans, who are not really Arsenal fans.

        1. I represent the majority of people who are sick of seeing Arsenal falter season after season after season because of one individual who has been at the club for about thirteen years too long and who has clearly run out of ideas and fails to understand simple concepts like defending, tactics and motivation.
You, however represent the bury your head in the sand minority who are happy to see Arsenal finish nowhere…

          1. very contructive, Just get rid of someone and the grass will be greener on the other side. You don’t qualify a decade long for the CL based on a lack of concepts like defending, tactics and motivation. Get behind the team or go to Man city and support money – you will then win the most of the time, but you won’t be watching real football, but I doubt you can spot the difference. Again it’s so easy to be negative – not worth much.

            1. Men, u can watch real football only on the pitch, the “real game”, like u said, is not played in wall street…so, man city played a lot better than us, and i m talking about the real game

              1. They better be playing better, alone the 3 defenders they bought cost EUR 150m +.

Arsenal could just open the purse and get an equal team of supermen, and you can replace Wenger with some screaming motivator on the side line – that’s is were the game is going, and you can suppoirt that if you like.

I won’t. I like seing players like Wilshere come through the youth ranks and materialize, and I’d win one season with players who evolved and materialzed, than watch 9 years of bought victories.

What city, PSG and other mega clubs are into is financial doping, and it’s destroying the game. The only thing worse than that, is to experience socalled supporter screaming for the more of the cash doping. Don’t you realize, that you are yearning for poison? You say ttahts how the game is, I say no, where is the opposition to financial doping among the spectators?

  3. Koscielny, what happened to him i dont fkin understand! He was a solid member in our defence, now he playing and making mistakes like a clown… Does he not want to go to the world cup with France or something…

  4. Wenger really needs to take a long hard look at himself, his players and his selections.

We don’t need to concede goals like this and be so lacksy daisy in possession.

    1. I disagree.
The board of directors should look at the league table and come to the same conclusion as the rest of us that Arsenal have not improved since last season and, in fact we have become worse.
Wenger’s excuse last season was that the uncertainty regarding his future unsettled the players – what is this years excuse going to be?

      1. Bad luck?
        It was raining?
        It was too cold?
        The ref?
        The fans are to blame?
        My zip did not work
        And so on ………..

  5. It was an exciting game for sure.
This season and last has shown us that we need to replace the entire defence and midfield.
Not one of the current players can be considered good enough.
Monreal, Koscelny, Mustafi, Bellerin, Wilshere, Xhaka, Ramsey, Iwobi, Walcott, Coquelin etc. are simply not good enough…
But first Arsenal need a new manager to do that…

  6. What a mess of a team!!! A draw is a point but this team and the manger are hopeless.
Last 5 years at least we can’t stop leaking goals. If we could built a defense we would have won 2 titles.
WTF is this manager thinking? Steve Bould is also useless or a puppet.
