Arsenal v Liverpool Player Ratings – Ozil in a class of his own

WE all watched an amazing game last night at the Emirates, but even though some Arsenal fans were upset that we only came away with one point, in many other ways we were lucky that the Liverpool defence collapsed in the second half. So who do you think were the main men for Arsenal?

Here are my ratings….

Cech  7
I think that Cech did amazingly well with very little help from the defence. He had little chance with Liverpool’s goals but he was very strong on set-pieces and we would have easily lost without him.

Bellerin  6
One of his best games for ages. Helped out in attack but was rarely around to defend

Koscielny  4
The Boss seems to have lost his confidence and control of his fellow defenders. I think this could be his last season at this level

Monreal  5
He was run ragged by the Liverpool strike force and can’t seem tio keep up with the pace any more. But he tried…

Maitland-Niles  6 |
Considering who he was up against he did extremely well, and helped out up the field as well. Very promising performance in a difficult game

Xhaka  6
Great goal if a bit hopeful. Possibly improving at last but still not sure if he is really Arsenal class

Wilshere  7
He was keen but still seemed lost in the first half. Found his power in the second when he tried to cause problems

Iwobi  4
I’m still not convinced of his ability. Gives the ball away much too much for my liking. Needs to improve A LOT

Ozil  8
Brilliant goal and easily the best player on the pitch. God knows what we will do without him..

Alexis  6 Was his usual waste of space to start with but actually looked like he was trying in the second. I still don’t think he wants anything to do with us any more

Lacazette  7
Was given no help at all in the first half but caused Liverpool problems and set up the first goal like a boss

Subs:

Mustafi  5
I felt sorry for him as he helped the second goal into the net just after coming on, but at least he didn’t collapse like he did against United. Not in a good frame of mind at the moment after a very solid run in the side

Welbeck 5
Ran around a lot without much effect

Walcott
Was brought on as a wild card but not really sharp enough in the little time he was given

  1. I would say the MOTM was Xhaka. He scored the equalizer with a thunderous long shot that was highly improbable to be blocked by any keeper and robbed the ball many times from the opponents by using good tackles.

Ozil scored the third goal with a great finish, but he got robbed a lot and did not track back. He played in deeper position, but Wilshere was the one that did a lot of pressings.

Wenger could succumb to the angry mob and bench the most hated players like Sanchez, Xhaka and Iwobi, then uses only Ozil as the key player. If he really does it, I want to see the result and I think it could expedite his termination process.

  2. Too generous on Cech. World class goalies like Lloris and De Gea can be the difference when against difficult opposition.

Cech should’ve done better in the second and third goal.

        1. Just one eyed bias and silly. I am a lifelong Gooner with no love for Spuds but any right minded fan who knows football knows Lloris is a great keeper. Not Sue though, sadly.

  3. Besides for Ozil, nobody deserves above a 7. Despite the scoreline, Arsenal were atrocious for 85 minutes of this match. The passing was abysmal, defending was embarrassing and nobody created any good chances outside that 5 minute spell. Actually felt bad for Ozil this game because nobody could complete a simple one-two pass with him. Liverpool completely outplayed us. If they weren’t a disaster of a side themselves this game would’ve been a blowout. We’re very lucky Liverpool aren’t disciplined and switched off for 5 minutes because it masks what is very obvious about this team. They are average, and will never be winning the title in the next several years. Ditch Sanchez as soon as possible, Xhaka just doesn’t cut it, and the defense as usual is shambles. We’ll continue to decline under Wenger, and do note that this 3-3 scoreline masks what was another horrendous performance from us.

    1. And when will people admit Wilshere is complete pants. Im so sick of Arsenal fans pretending he’s the messiah when the truth is he’s not even better than Ramsey. Wilshere is a Europa League level player at best.

      1. Who are you, Mrs Ramsey? Complete twaddle about Wilshere. I do not rate Ramsey overmuch but he is worth playing instead of the uninterested Sanchez. But Wilshere must now be a regular starter and I do not know what game you were watching and clearly neither do the many who rightly thumbed you down.

        1. I agree with you Jon but as you well know as soon as Ramsey is fit the clueless one will bring him back. Just seen an advert on the Sky News website, “remote island seeks police inspector” straight away I thought the perfect job for Wenger, can be a Dictator on he’s own little island in the middle of the Pacific. Think that would suit us all.

          1. I’m thinking now that coming back from 2-0 down and lets be honest could of been 4-0 may not be such a bad result at the end of the day. With Chelsea dropping 2 points and with a bit of luck Burnley hold Tottenham , not a lot would have changed. Feeling a bit better than I was at about 9 o’clock last night. COME ON BURNLEY.

          2. I would far rather he is in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, but without the island. Just the sea. Thats what he deserves but that is being cruel to the Pacific I realise. I simply detest the man with every fibre of my being and cannot truly say I don’t wish him harm. Please observe the double negative here.

      2. what???? wilshere is far better player than ramsey, and its obvious, he can pass and he can tackle and can drible, ramsy does what? he is more finisher than wilshere but still, in cm position wilshere is far more better

  4. I guess different persons will see things differently regarding player performances, relative to the alternatives we have to go with. Kos should be a 6, at least and Iwobi a 7, if Sanchez gets a 6. Iwobi had a shaky start, as did the whole team, if we are being honest. He misplaced a couple of passes and was wary of going forward at times, perhaps under instruction. But when he took possession of the ball, he was one of only a few that didn’t lose it to a tackle or wrong touch. He was always being hassled physically by the Robertson kid and Can, so he always had to first fend off his markers, take control and find a pass. When the whole team went forward, he came to life. I enjoyed his contributions, considering how even older heads in the team froze in the face of the “Fab 4” narrative we all had to endure (as did the players). There is a reason the manager picks him for certain games.

  5. Great game, great fight, sad that it didnt stay 3:2.
Ozil and Wilshere and Lacazette and Niles are the Arsenal’s fundation for the future!

    1. According to rumors, maybe Ozil would leave for Manchester United in the next season, to replace Mata and Mkhitaryan. Arsenal would be left wih Lacazette, Kolasinac, Xhaka, Maitland-Niles, Bellerin, Nelson, Adelaide, Macey, Martinez, Ramsey, Welbeck and Wilshere (if the last three players I mentioned are willing to extend).

Arsenal should get at least one new player in January, to soften the exodus blow and to make the transition process easier. Let us see whether Wenger would keep his promise about Lemar.

  6. Ozil was poor and refuses to pass to Lacazette. He needs to learn how to do through balls on the ground. The amount of times Laca was in and he ignored him.

Xhaka was bad not didnt give the ball away too much. Provided nothing defensively. Coq should have started after his performance mid week.

Wilshere is good but horrible off the ball. Lazy and doesnt even want the ball or makes an effort to create the triangles.

  7. Football, or winning at football, is relatively simple. Buy the worls’s best goalie central midfielder and centre forward and you win stuff. We have none of the above. Expecting things to change with Iwobi, Ozil, Xhaka etc etc is living in a fools’ paradise. As the crowd often chant ‘spend some f********* money’.

    1. Arsenal have bought Lacazette, who is supposed to be one of the best available central forwards at that time. Too bad he is too short for Wenger’s strategy.

And they also have bought Xhaka, who is supposed to be one of the best available central midfielders at that time. Most fans were praising Arsenal for that purchase, because of Xhaka’s skills and height, but then it turned out that his defending skills are not what the fans expect them to be.

  8. niles is 6???? have you watched the game? if you haven’t, just watch ian Wright’s analysis? He was switched off for the most part of the game. I don’t care if he is a kid or not. Ages are no more excuses for bad games. Not buying it!

  9. Agree Ozil was the MOTM.

To me, Iwobi is Walcott in the making. He is not an Arsenal material. Or, maybe he is, considering the fact that we are now midtable club.

I am glad that we came back from 0-2, but that was possbile due to the errors from Liverpool side. Salah missed several golden opportunities and Xhaka’s shot was not meant to go in. Simply, we were not good enough.

Wenger would not admit, but we all know that there is clear line between the starters and reserves. No matter how hard and well reserve players play, they won’t get to play in league matches. Now, Kolasinac is among them and I just can’t understand why Maitland-Niles is preferred over him. I am not saying Niles is not good, but why in the world Wenger keeps him playing him out of position?

Though Wilshire is in a good form, which I am really happy about, Wenger should not play him every single game. I fear Wenger might overuse him until he gets another injury.

  10. Arsenal were pathetic through out the game until that five minutes crazy moment.if they don’t improve on such defending mistakes, then they should forget top 4 finish leave alone title race
