Arsenal v Liverpool review – 4 star Gunners keep title hopes alive!

After a great start from Arsenal when we pressed Liverpool high and forced them into mistakes, while our slick passing kept opening them up, Mignolet had to make two world class saves from Cazorla and Ramsey to keep the visitors level. But we didn’t make the most of our dominance and then began to drop the tempo as Liverpool came storming back and should really have scored a couple of goals themselves.

Thankfully for the Gunners, Markovic inexplicably overhit an easy pass for Sterling to tap in to our goal and then, when Henderson had been left free in the box, the cross to him was also too hard. But it was looking worrying and just when the fingernails were getting some stick, Bellerin popped up with a beauty in the 37th minute.

The excellent Ozil hit a peach of a pass from the centre circle to find Ramsey wide right. The Welshman fed Bellerin inside and the Spaniard danced past the defence and curled a great left footed goal into the corner. And the game was all but over by halftime as Arsenal turned the screw.

Ozil hit a brilliant free kick in the 40th minute and Ramsey claimed a second assist when Alexis smashed a third past the dumbfounded Mignolet who did not seem to see it. It was clinical stuff from the Gunners.

The second half was not so good from the Gunners, as we took our foot off the gas a bit. We also lost Koscielny with what seemed to be a tweaked hamstring in the 49th minute and then Ramsey took a knock as well. THey were replaced by Gabriel and Flamini as Arsenal tried to close the game out and did that pretty well until Bellerin fouled Sterling in the box and Henderson just squeezed his spot kick past Ospina.

But their comeback did not happen and they lost Emre Can to a second yellow. Arsenal then added a fourth with a superb strike from Giroud in stoppage time. That is six league games in a row for the fantastic Frenchman. Now Arsenal want some slip ups from Chelsea, Man City and Man United!!

Onwards and Upwards!

      1. Owen can eat s…,t. Great performance.amazing goals.well done guys.lovely goal Olivier… Lovely…revenge taken

            1. At some point????? He was plain useless the entire match. I’ve only seen him referee once before and he was useless then as well. I don’t know where they picked him up from, the away fans section, perhaps?

        1. ….while it was just you and your mate kevin watching the game?

how do u two celebrate goals?!

      2. same goes for that TV bore Phil Neville who predicted this week that ManUre would be second, City 3rd and Liverpool 4th at end of season.
Will he be on MOTD tonight??? Prat
        COYG
        Keep winning

        1. I hope Phil Neville gets fired for his predictions if we can keep this team together and add two more players we Will win the league next season.
On the flip side no more chambers at RB thank god Debuchy is back Bellerin is awesome we are looking at great things to come in the future.

    2. Arsene: Say it, Brenda!!! Say it!!!

      Brenda: Ama b*tch!!!

Arsene: What? Can t here u. Louder, damn it!!!

Brenda: Ama bitch!!! Ama solid b*tch!!!

              1. Funny that…it was only three months ago some of you fickle fcukers were blaming WENGER! You can always tell someone’s character by how they behave and react when things aren’t going well…

Haha. Great result, another great performance and justification for all those fans, that rain or shine, STAND UP for the team. Quality!

      1. @muffdiver
        I hear ya MuffD.
I’m chillin in Bristol, the only Gooner for miles drinkin in the Drawbridge and screamin my effin head off. Gotta bounce tho, cuz tha natives are lookin restless…LMFAO
        COYG!!!!!

        1. the hell u doin in brizzy bro?

alot of fitties walkin around the harbour on sat night
          enjoy 🙂

  1. Great match, great 3 points. Shame on the sloppy second half defending, lost a clean sheet.

Well Sturridge, hopefully that display was worth of turning your back on your country.

    1. sterling for 40 mil?

na ur alright il stick with this stella artios an pork scratchings

      1. Raheem “Scooby Doo” Sterling hahahaha, give him 180k a week, just for the comedy value

  2. GIROUD you LEGEND…

I am so happy for the guy after the rubbish he has been getting since we signed him..

Good all round game from the team, up we go..

    1. Giroud scored a sitter…..lovely strike, as I said after first half we will win 4-1 and giroud will score. Lively goals today, but the last goal from giroud made my day.lovely goal Olivier… Lovely…can Costa do that? Is giroud still not world class?

    2. I know he’s a confidence player and in form right now but the goals he’s scored lately are class. OG not just a tap in striker these days… he could just be a late bloomer

      1. And you know he’s high on confidence when he had the chance to pass the ball to Santi for a sitter but opted to blast it outside the box. Strikers goal!

        1. exactly. I was so surprised Giroud took it on himself, and so happy he scored too. Its exactly what you want to see, and thats why he’s so good right now. Confidence changes a player so much.

    3. hope we learn to give players some time and have faith in them. you play for arsenal, odds are you’re quality. people just being to quick to judge and it’s ludicrous

we have a dope team, 2 players in each position. just a little more to go and we’re truly up there

    1. It was funny how every goal Owen blamed Mignolet and barely mentioned the quality of the finish.

  3. Wenger got his tactics today spot on. I honestly expected walcott to start. but the ramsey-ozil-sanchez interplay was too much for Liverpool.

  4. Absolutely beautiful! Thank you Gunners for making waking up at 6 am to watch this game worth it! COYG!

  5. got a feeling we will face liverpool in fa cup final
this game sets it up nicely

being as humble as i can:

    liverpool got DESTROYED

    1. liverpool don’t have emre can, squirtle, gerrard for the midweek FA cup replay against blackburn.

  6. Great win 4 us, hopefully ramsey improves and stoke’ll do us a favor…… is sterling still worth 100k

  7. All great goals, well done guys.

There were some nervous stuff, but lads closed game out nicely.

MOTM nightmare Bob, but I’m going for Coq

    1. the amount of times he broke up play was just phenomenal. he’s had some good performances but tonight was something else.
Seriously did anyone notice Henderson was on the pitch? I rate him but he got absolutely dominated tonight

  8. For some reason I’m interested in watching Chelsea play. Don’t usually say that but hey maybe JM will blow up at his billion dollar squad and give me some more joy.

  9. Coquelin had a really good game today hardly ever out of position always keeping the defence covered – weve always had the attacking players but now weve got the scrappers too. Wilshire is another good scrapper to have back in the team too. We won the game cos we dominated the midfield

  10. Awesome result. I think this was a MUST win
But to win this big? Bloody awesome

As to not playing well second half. This has been going on for months. It’s my only criticism. But if we keep on winning, it doesnt make a difference

    I’m soooooo happy

Now lets root for Villa to beat United and whoever Chelski is playing (forget)

    4-1, 4-1, 4-1 🙂

  11. Suddenly giroud is one of the best strikers in the PL.
HE keeps wining every ball, winning in the air , great technique great passes now he’s becoming clinical.

That’s a world class striker formula

    1. cannot believe it.
      what a difference
ive been callin him a third choice striker for the first two seasons

if hes not a first choice now- who the hell is

      1. Exactly he really worked hard to get to this point,
He creates so many chances, retains the ball, gains position without having the ball just using his body.
And most important he’s scoring like a madman.

I wonder if he still has some haters?

    2. I loved it when he backed away from being hit from behind and 2 Pool players collided. He gets hit in the back or face every game he goes up for those.

    3. seriously, the amount of self-belief it must take when your own fans are sh*t talking you and not getting behind you.

we need to back our players more.
silky touch, bullies 2 center backs, arial domination and now consistently putting em away even against the big team. gtf off his back.

  12. C*nt of the game award goes to… EMRE CAN! Congrats for being the biggest mug on the pitch today, even before Anthony “Worst in the League” Taylor.

Claiming he ‘slipped’ on that dangerous scissor tackle. What a c*nt.

  13. With this quality and form, we deserve to be champions!!!! I wish we had started the season like this! Well done beloved guys

  14. Let’s go boys!!! Keep focused and keep gaining points is all we can ask for. Ozil really enjoyed that goal along with the rest of the squad. I won’t start with superlatives for this performance b/c they will never end! COYG!

  15. Wenger found back his mojo as a winner. The team formation and tactic was near perfect.Well done guys.

  16. Hmmm, I have bashed Wenger in the first half for playing Ramsey on the right. This is why he is the manager and I am just a poor fu cker. Loved the display today.
BTW, what happened with Kos? Anyone knows?

    1. It’s okay. Don’t worry

I’m worse. I wanted us to sign Ballotelli in summer.

Wenger probably sees stuff in training that we don’t. We are just armchair managers lol

  17. Shoutout to Coquelin. He probably won’t get MOTM, but he really had a stellar game under the radar.

    1. It’s an away match for City so it’s possible

Also hope Villa beat United and Stoke beat Chelsea

  18. It’s matches like these that makes me proud to be a Gooner. Don’t mean to get all emotional, but I just love this f*cking squad. This win made my day.

    1. Loving the way Bellerin is developing. Good competition for RB now for rest of season and next.
      His forward game was delightful.

Though i feel some players at times looked tired after international duty otherwise it would have been nightmare for L’pool

    2. Should’ve been sent off, but he was so good other than that today. Unnecessary to make the challenge for the penalty, but he scored a great goal earlier to make up for it. Here we all were thinking the pace of Sterling and Moreno im the right side would be a challenge – not for Bellerin! He showed some real pace today, didn’t see him lose any ground in a sprint.

  19. At the moment giroud just cant stop scoring, if this continues he might just win the golden boot! which i would love to happen! Coyg!

    1. Just wish he didn’t miss 3 months and then 3 a three game ban when a player went down like a bowling pin.

  20. Coquelin is personally my MOTM. The whole game he was challenging, making tackles and gave us absolute secureity at the back. And this is why Cazorla, Ozil, Ramsey, Sanchez can just do what they do best and dominate the game. Truly a revelation this season. Outstanding from everyone today in all honesty.

  21. Great game by the lads, hope rambo & kos injuries are not that serious.Chels**t watch your bak

  22. Top top golas were scored today and walcott didn’t even play.buh am scared if we by chance meet liverpool in the FA cup,I hope they won’t come back for revenge.Flamini should go in the summer

    1. Pool fans would be wishing they don’t face Arsenal in finals.
Despite today’s performance, they deserve respect but we should hot fear them. They should.

  23. If this game does not show that Arsenal is progressing as a club then nothing will. People say we can’t handle big game pressure esp when we are favourites. Well I think we just answered them with a Bazuka not a gun. Class club, Class Players, Class Manager. Well done and up the gunners.

  24. But this doesn’t bring us back into the title race.we av lost that along time ago.buh we still finish second.how did u rate Gabriel’s performance he didn’t really do well for me

  25. Remember this you stupid scouser a – you’re kop isn’t capable of making sound like that. That crustyass tiny section of seats been **** all.

Today we represented on a mass scale and outsung you. Remember that. This is the emirat s. Ain’t no novice like Brenda delivering that plus CL year after year.

  26. Amazing team performance!!

Francis Coquelin owned the park today!

    Ozil – Genius

    Sanchez – Enough said

Giroud – attitude and hard work says it all

These were always the games where we lost or had a draw, totally different team from last year.

    Wenger – Outplayed Rogers !

    Well done boys !!!

    1. wenger had it spot on. second half changed his tactics, was in his technical area reminding everyone that they can sit back and pick off liverpool and counter – which OG did nicely. end of.

a bit of revenge for 5-1 last season. pool and sterling can suck it.

  27. Whichever way you want see it our season turnaround came with Le COQ since he joined the team we start building success, it was said all along we needed a DM Flamini was not the answer neither Arteta…..once we brought him back the position was filled and the rest is history.
Ospina was also a turning point, but greatly helped by a much more solid defense that Zcecsny had. OG what can I say I eat my words as he has proven to be a Top Class striker……
Great win revenge is sweet nothing else to say but COYG

  28. Seriously,I see chelsea and Man city dropping points this weekend and dat will be awesome.up Sanchez.bring on anybody.lolssss

  29. Even ArsenaL’s most criticized player of the moment had one awesome freekick worth remembering

    1. love how they still tried to say mignolet was at fault. the free kick was bang on – ozil lure mignolet to believe it was going to the other side. was pure class. if hazard had done it there wld have been no such talk. get off our backs , media!

      1. Exactly, they could have put two even three extra men to edge of wall and that ball was still bending round them… exquisite bend, what a peach.

Like everything else he does… he makes it look so effortlessly easy.

    2. @gooner100 ………u gotta remain silent ere…… Since u 1st heard of the name OziL, he’d been class…… Must his reputation be brought to naught only at arsenal?

      1. I have no idea what that means tbh. Ozil is a star.

What I do know though is I’m an Arsenal FC fan…and you’re just a fair weather glory hunter, only there when its going well who 3 months ago spent every conceivable moment slagging off the team, the players and the manager. Just makes me laugh that here we are now and you have the balls to make any comment at all. Unfortunately, your name is too memorable to forget so most on here who follow the posts and have a proper love for Arsenal won’t forget it…or your past abuse of all that is Arsenal.

Opinions are fine, everyone has them, but you and a few others were (probably still would be should the opportunity arise again), extreme haters and quite frankly have no right to participate or enjoy any success that Arsenal have.

Harsh….nah, nothing compared to the crap you offered on a daily basis, the hatred you tried to generate and the negatively you spewed. Be nice if you took out the time to apologise to the loyal fans that had to see it day in day out…as likely as you stringing a normal sentence together…no chance!

        1. @gooner100 …….quit typing textbooks……. I got no time to read those sh*ts …..something u should learn “one reason a man puts in much effort to succeed, is when he is under pressure” …. End of story

  30. All goals were very good

My favourite was Ozil’s because we rarely score direct free kicks.

My favourite goal celebration was Alexis’, because after he slid on the grass he was thanking his teammates when they fell on him and patting him on the back. He genuinely enjoys being a team player

  31. Big mistake from Rodgers…..should have gone for a 4-1-4-1 formation. And YNWA changed to YAWA…. you will always walk alone- dedicated to Gerrard against ManUtd and Emre Can today.

  32. Fantastic display(especially first half) from the Gunners. Its a wonderful rarity, in the wake of such a performance to genuinely be more than satisfied with the efforts of each player that contributed today.

    MOTM???

Coq, OG, Bellerin, Nacho, Ozil, Sanchez????

What a nice conundrum to face each week

  33. ospina gives me confidence in goal
le coq gives me comfort of an extra layer of defence
giroud gives me hope of scoring goals

  34. Coquelin MOTM for me today a great performance in the middle of the park, stayed in that hole providing support and outlet for the defence and attacking players!!Pressured well liverpool’s midfielders and clean tackles and duels: continue like this and we can expect another big performance against Chelsea!! Another notable player for me is Özil (who gets little praise and credit) who started poorly, missing some touches and passes but when those 3 goals in 8 minutes where scored he was at the heart of it all: 1st that beautiful long range pass for Ramsey to assist on the 1st goal and than for all the people out there that say he doesn’t take responsibility well he did just burying a free kick on the opposite side just above the wall (sure Mignolet could’ve done better) but the quality is there on the shot. Than keeping things fluid and showing some soft dribbling skills and great delivery in the box: Giroud’s header…Keep it up GUNNERS!!

  35. In Arsenal team, goals can come from the strikers, the midfielders, and the diffenders as well; that makes Arsenal a very difficult team to handle at the moment. What a wondrous team Arsene Wenger has built! the future is bright.
