Arsenal v Ostersund Review – Mighty Ostersund make Arsenal look like amateurs

So this is the team that Arsenal put out tonight, and there is simply no way that you could say that Wenger has put out a total team of reserves, but no matter the gulf in the quality (or the cost) of these multimillionaire reserves playing against a tiny Swedish hurdy-gurdy men.

Arsenal: Ospina, Bellerin, Chambers, Holding, Kolasinac, Mkhitaryan, Elneny, Maitland-Niles, Iwobi, Wilshere, Welbeck.

Subs: Macey, Monreal, Mustafi, Xhaka, Nelson, Nketiah, Willock.

Well straight away, for no reason that I can fathom, Ostersund were all over a nervous Arsenal defence, and nearly scored in the first fve minutes.

But come to 20 minutes and Ostersund were in front, which was only going to make the Arsenal defence more nervous. And so it proved as amazingly the Swedes were 2-0 up just two minutes later! And shall we ask Arsene Wenger if he was nervous at this point?

After that Arsenal realised that it was not such an easy game after all, but when Welbeck got a free header on goal, it was straight at the keeper, and when Wilshere had a shot, it probably landed back in Sweden.

As you can tell I’m not really impressed right now. Chelsea played Barcelona and matched them, we are playing Ostersund and LOSING. Do me favour!

I am not going to go on, because Arsenal were absolutely rubbish and I am just glad we were not playing Bayern Munich or Barcelona this week.

  1. GUYS WE’RE THROUGH!!!

so what ostersunds are bottom of the swedish ikea league (they really are hahaha)

we are the favourites- dortmund athletico an leipzig are in BIG TROUBLEEEEE

    1. Seriously guys.. we played our 2nd team /3rd team…
With a League Cup Final on Sunday some od you would have crucified Wenger for playing 1st team and anyone getting injured

We are thru .. who cares about the score !
      Well done Osterunds !

      1. who cares?
        looool
neil my brother from another overweight mother

u definitely werent at the emirates 🙂
that was a team of internationals they just got chewed by the same people who manufactured my desk

      2. He fielded 7 – 8 players who would quite likely play for the 1st team. They were crap and it is Wenger who even now at his age is in total charge of training sessions and of selections, tactics and game style. Can you be surprised he and the team were booed off ??

      3. im sure anyone that went to the game or watched it on tv must be disspointed!! it should’t be well done unknown team from sweden with an english coach!! but I give them credit fair play to them.

this was an oppurtunity for some players to show their worth and that means that welbeck, chambers, neny have to go in the summer they offer nothing, squad players they are not. glad the youngsters got a run in and happy for saed he deserves more game time.

    2. No mate, its City who are in for a big trouble on Sunday and if Wenger wins us the cup, we all will be singing his name.

    1. Good result for Arsenal.
Mostly rubbish left in the Europa
and Athletico will qualify from La Liga
      so no interest for them.
Arsenal will win the Europa no doubt.
Arsenal are now big underdogs for the Carabao so
I fully expect Arsenal to win it now.
Wenger to get a 2 year extension.

  2. We’re through, but awful, just awful. When was the last time Arsenal won a home game in a knockout tie in Europe…5/6 years ago! Well done Wenger, first knockout tie victory in 8 years I think! Big up Ostersund. Fantastic win, very brave to play the way they did, and a deserved victory.

    Opsina – 6
    Bellerin – 5
    Chambers – 4
    Holding – 4
    Kolasinac – 6
    Maitland-Niles – 4
    Wilshere – 4
    Elneny – 6
    Mkhitaryan – 4
    Iwobi – 5
    Welbeck – 3

    Xhaka -5, Willock -5, Nelson N/A

    1. Imagine that Kolasinac was a right footer, cos I’ve had it up to here with Bellerin! Monreal on one side, Kolasinac on the other!

      1. I absolutely agree bruh! It’s time for Bellerin to hit the bench and someone else to take his place cause the guy can’t beat his man even if his life depended on it!

    2. Wenger does not normally win two legged ties because by that stage the other teams are quite good (except Ostersund) and he does not do tactics. That’s it, Board of Directors, let him stay in power for ever !!

  3. Pathetic performance even for that lineup
Also, hats off to Osterlunds for giving it a try. At 0-2 they were looking really good.
    Thanks Kolsanic
BUT at least we are through
    That’s the main thing

Now let’s hope Wenger gets Sunday’s lineup right. I hope Bellerin and Wilshere will start and won’t be too tired

      1. That’s an insult to Walcott, atleast he is a decent finisher. Iwobi is just horrible, give another youth player a chance.

  4. We have the worse defence in the world. I think is about time Wenger call it on his time at Arsenal. Graham Potter will be a perfect replacement

  5. I don’t want to see this Arsenal team be given any opportunity to win anything this season.
It would be a terrible advert for football if they won anything.
No passion, no boll*cks, no spine, no pride, no leadership, no tactics, no management.
How far this club has fallen under Wenger.
Sooner he is gone the better…

      1. I agree that it seems they are told not to shoot from more than 10 yards, they must not ever cross a ball into the box and must pass back to the keeper at every opportunity but are they told to play school playground football like 7 year olds where 6 players go for the same ball? Crap manager, crap team.

  6. That display totally epitomised what arsenal are all about nowadays. Absolute mediocrity with a hint of complete blind panic and desperation. I never enjoy watching them as you can just about predict what will happen and usually it includes the whole team imploding. Unacceptable!!!!

  7. Fingers crossed that Lacazette returns before the next team we meet in Europa. Depending on Welbeck is a sure recipe for failure.

I hope we avoid Atletico and Milan.

    1. dortmund leipzig?

the one team im sure we couldnt beat over two legs is athletico
they are clear favourites for me

  8. There can now be no doubt that this squad have absolutely no pressure to perform. When players dont have the dignity or self respect to make sure we dont lose at home to a bunch of amatuers the problems at AFC run deep.
The humilitiations are without end but still there is not one person left in the board with the balls to sack this useless excuse for a manager. Maybe its because we no longer have any true arsenal supporters working for the club.
Whatever the reason its an insult to every gooner that players like elneny, and iwobi get to wear our historic colours.
    Wenger, gazidis, kroenke out.

  9. What was evident on the pitch, and has been for the past few years is a team not properly coached. Arsenal are usually unprepared for most of their matches, and that has been Wenger`s fault. It doesn`t really matter who plays. The team as a whole is badly managed. Arsenal cannot win the Europa league.

    1. I think you’re right… give these players to a decent manager, and they’ll definitely play better…… and if you pay attention to the pattern, our new players perform well in their first few games, and then their confidence as well as level of performance start to dwindle once they’re well familiar with wenger’s system……. and FFS, how’s welbeck still playing for arsenal?!…….. Iwobi was almost as useless…… the best of that poor bunch was Mkhitaryan,….. el Neny wasn’t as horrible as the others tho

  10. oster has more determination and aggression than us…cause they got nothing to lose after the first leg…

we were quite relax…guess no one wants to get injured or miss the cup final

  11. Gazidis and Co need to hit the refresh button this summer regarding a manager and new era of players. Seen enough now.

  12. What’s wrong with some arsenal fans?
Do they hv shame at all,
Ostersand came to d Emirate and beat Arsenal and they ar saying who cares we ar true,
this Club is declining and people ar still talking shit.this man is still killing this club and people still support him.is obvious he has lost it
This club can not move forward unless this man is sacked. Gush what a pathetic display.

  13. awful, awful, awful. How deluded does one have to be to think this club is going in a positive direction right now?

  14. Like usmanov once said, we need an 100mil strong bench, let alone a strong first team

I am just not happy with this, i dont even know how to think of this team anymore. Doomed if we win, doomed if we fail.

So let us say we win this competition, then what? Do you ppl really think that we belong in the cl?

27 points far from City. This is something which should give every person a reality check.

Its not that we just need to buy players, but we need to buy where we currently struggle. And i can say this i am not overreacting when i say that we need at least 6 new players. At least. Starting with the Keeper till the flanks. The only poz we are safe is Striker. And one our striker is currently having a bad day in his work place. Thx to well Arsenal. We need to invest and make a long time plan to safe this club from falling to far away from the top. We cant allow our self to repeat what Liverpool did and still are trying to fix. Can someone see Wenger at Arsenal for the upcoming 5 years? Well i cant, so a new start simple must soon happen otherwise say our prayers and goodbye

    1. We will have no respite till the Board (hopefully) does not allow Wenger yet another waste of space contract extension. The it will take the next manager some time to clear up this total mess. I reckon we are 2 – 3 years from getting it right. Longer if Wenger stays on even longer.

  15. Well what can I add to what as already been posted.
There is NO EXCUSE for any Arsenal team to perform as we did tonight and the blame, rightly, and as always, lies with Wenger.
I’m travelling home now so won’t catch his post match comments but I bet they include
I WAS PLEASED WITH THE LEVEL OF COMMITMENT
WE SEEMED TO START A LITTLE SLOWLY
    THE PLAYERS SHOWED GREAT INTENSITY
    WE DID NOT LACK EFFORT

    Bo****KS WENGER YOU F***ING IDIOT
YOU THINK WE ARE MUGS DONT YOU?

It’s the same drivel from that pathetic old has been we’ve had to put up with for years.
He should not defend that performance. He cannot excuse the players for anything other than delivering the worst pile of S**T seen at the Emirates for god knows how long.
Wenger should know that ANY team he puts out at whatever level and in whatever competition are required to at the very least perform as professional footballers for the Club.
    We EXPECT BETTER
    We DEMAND BETTER
We are ARSENAL FOOTBALL CLUB FFS.

Regardless of Sunday’s result.Regardless of our final League position.Regardless of whether we win the Europa Cup.This Manager cannot be allowed to carry on past the end of this season.
The Board must act NOW.He should be pulled in and asked to explain what the F**K he is actually doing. We have just been played off the park by a side that would probably just about hold their own in Division One.How can Wenger not see that he is NOT progressing with THESE players under HIS management.

FFS just get this Manager OUT before we are in Division One

    1. I thought you also summed it up well Phil pointing out Wenger’s total contempt for the fans, 100% spot on.

  16. The club in a sad state … Half of the outfield tonight were regular starters and th GK is actually better than the starter … yet they not only lost to footballs equivalent of a billy bookcase they were outclassed by them … All the same basic faults sloppy passing no drive failure to press indecisive finishing … This is what the fossil has bequeathed the club a decade after his sell by date has passed … And there are still junkies trying to defend him in the hope that they can shoot up onhis 4th place smack … Stock up the soup cans and get a life

  17. Can someone please give Welbeck and Iwobi photographs of goalposts and goalkeepers to firstly try and hit the back of the net and secondly avoid the goakeeper. There are better goalscorers than these two in the Church Leagues in Oz.

  18. Tonight shows that we need a lot of changes. Starting at the Top.
    New Manager
    Some players need to go
Our bench is not strong enough
Our starting team isn’t strong enough
Wenger doesn’t have an eye for Quality even though he uses that word often
Also Wenger thinks Average players are top quality

I am soooooo fed up with Wenger

  19. That was probably one of the worst performances by an Arsenal side in the last 30 or 40 years. The whole team apart from possibly Ospina, who never had much chance with either goal, were poor but Holding, Chambers, Welbeck and Iwobi were atrocious. I’m guessing Wenger told people that Iwobi, when he first came to the club, was destined to be a great player and because of Wenger’s stubbornness he’ll continue to play this plonker until he’s proved right. To me in my lifetime he’s amongst the worst four or five players ever to play for Arsenal Football Club. I don’t know where we go from here. A year ago it was about 80% of fans wanted Wenger out but now it feels like 99%. Surly if we get beat Sunday and get knocked out of the Europa Cup it must be curtains for Wenger but I don’t think he’ll ever quit and fully expect our non footballing board to sadly stick with him,

    1. Kenny your post sums up how everyone who witnessed that tonight is feeling. It was a DISGRACEFUL performance.
I DO NOT and WILL NOT accept that it was a mostly Second String Line-Up.We are ARSENAL FOOTBALL CLUB FFS.
Wenger should hold his head in shame.

      1. I think with Arsenal.. you can tell in the first 5 or 10 minutes if it’s going to be a good game or not.
Bloody useless doesn’t even come close!!
Arsene must see something in Iwobi that no one else does, as he is absolute pants, yet he’s played every week!! I get slated on here for slagging him off… but I stick by it he is useless & so is Chambers, Holding & Welbz. Get rid of them all, they’re not good enough, they offer nothing. Rant over…….

        1. You carry on slagging him off Sue, you can obviously see something a lot of other fans and Wenger can’t.

  20. Yeah guys we’re ready for Sunday! Wenger is such a great manager and especially motivator without him we wouldn’t have made it through.

  21. I am as disappointed. I have serious concern with Mkhitaryan. He was great against Everton, but he seems to struggle ever since. He can’t keep the ball and his passes are inaccurate. Just lack of communication and understanding with other players? I don’t know, but he is disapponting.

Kolasinac played better and scored in the second half, but he was awful in the first half. I think he spent so much time on the bench and lost fitness and confidence, just like Lacazette. That’s Wenger’s fault. He somehow dropped both of new signings when they were completely fit and ruinned their form and confidence. What a manager he is.

A lot of fans here seem not to like Elneny, but in my humble opinion, he was the only decent player on the pitch for 90 minutes, along with Ospina, who could do nothing about both goals. Yes, he was a cheap signing from Egypt, not a famous player nor a player many fans expected the club to buy, but he always plays his part, though some may call it average.

Especially, last night, he hardly lost the ball, and supplied the ball upfront effectively. It was Mkhitaryan, Wilshire, Iwobi and Welbeck that could not create anything.

    1. Ozil should have been the big play-maker to play if it had to be just the one. Mkhit is new, he doesn’t know anyone’s game and he’s been with Mourinho making it even harder. Too many changes to the team for Mkhit, he’s played with Auba and he knows Ozil slightly and he seems to understand Ramsey type movement (maybe from Drtmund. A pattern if you will. But to give Mkhit the main creative responsibility and Ozil the tenth freaking break this season is unfair for this early esp if fingers will be pointing.

Wenger totally pissed on this teams face and we were nearly at the wrong end of the biggest European upset ever. I don’t mind changes but their should still be thought going into it. Like if they are young, do they play alongside one another in reserves or for the u23s, in pairs is allot better than scattered about. Is their chemistry behind it at all or are you just resting players and expecting showboating individuality because you’re facing fishermen.

Also it’s not hard to look up recent cock up’s to see what wen’t wrong last time changes were made, or last time players had a week off how was their grit and determination holding up. I mentioned this type of thing before the game but some AFTV kid called me an idiot, kid, we now have lower confidence around the club than we had directly after Spu loss, this is why our best player (your words) with some good forwards who know each others game would get the nod. This is why you should be sacked, not me, even if you are the biggest WO!.

  22. There were periods we relied on denilson, djourou, vela, aladiere, song, and even bendtner at some point and I’m just naming a few but we performed better than we are currently doing. Arsenal was a better team when we couldn’t afford players and had to sell our stars which is ironic coz now we have the spending power and we have actually invested a lot in players 50m, 52m, 35m, 42m these are figures that we are paying now a days. I’ve always pictured this period where we didn’t have to sell and we could afford to strengthen but it is finally here and we’re a declining terribly. How do you go from getting the best out of crappy players that couldn’t make it anywhere else after leaving us to making the worst out of very decent squad. Wenger simply doesn’t have what it takes to motivate this players anymore.
Now I’m scared of watching the carabao cup final

      1. It is, and we were. Better players and better football, better defending one of best midfield attack’s.

  23. Can’t quite believe that Wilshire actually said in an interview after the game that they underestimated the opposition. If that is his attitude then we don’t want you at our club. How can a professional disrespect the opposition like that and think it’s okay just because they got through the tie. That team on paper was good enough to win comfortably but it was the attitude of the players in their comfort zone that really stinks.

  24. We’ve gone through to the next round. So why do I feel sad? A night’s sleep hasn’t changed my mood.

I guess it was a reality check.
We need big changes, starting at the Top (i don’t mean Kroenke. That’s impossible) Wenger needs to go.
Even if we win on Sunday. Even if we win EL.
We have some good players in Ozil, Aubameyang, Lacazette, Kolsanic, Monreal. Its something to build a team around but NOT by Wenger.
A new manager will probably strengthen defense properly and central midfield and get rid of deadwood. Not Wenger. Wenger will keep them and even offer them a higher salary and not suffiently improve what we need improving.
    Wenger out!

  25. Elneny was the only Arsenal player to emerge with credit in my opinion.Performances like this tend to get an over -reaction from fans, but on this occasion they are completely justified.

  26. The problem with that team is that there is not set up for second team players to regular playing time so to understand teammates better. That there is 100 percent second team or closest to it. Niiles kolasinac and Welbz sit on bench so they have little to no experience of the players around them in that game. Wilshere our most senior player has played with Elneny so those two really had responsibility to own that midfield area. Holding and Chambers one sometimes more have gotten an odd start for first team and u23s, but mostly are warming our bench because we need CBs on the bench. So they haven’t gotten anything resembling an understanding between CB’s. Iwobi gets games as does Bellerin, but games with first team players not with these lads. It makes for uneven looking shape, not pushing pulling in same direction. If they had of trained all week esp seeing as we had a week off, we could have looked better prepared. But City must have been the only game we prepared for, it would have deserved us right to go out with a lesson taught to us. Because we never learn maybe if these had taught it it might have sunk in. Preparation and approach, that is where the battle lines are drawn.
